Great video and well presented & explained too. Can I suggest that some may find a small and annoying problem? (Depending on variant and exactly which car the D4204T is installed in, mine is a Volvo C70 2010) When taking off the top part of the timing belt cover there are two wiring loom retaining clips down the back edge, these are to be blunt a bit of a bitch to see and even harder to access and they prevent you from removing the cover. Don't be tempted as I first was to think they are cable ties and cut them, they are the type of mounts that pop through a hole in the adjacent surface (in this case the cover itself). I managed to prize them out with a screwdriver, they came quite easily. Up to that point I was going to cut them, (I thought they were cable ties). Once you use the method above they do come out, mind you you need hands the size of a ten year old to get down the back to pop them back in once the cover is refitted, but it is achievable. I spoke with my local Volvo agent parts guy about the crankshaft pulley bolt as I don't think it looks like a stretch bolt, it looks 'standard' in it's construction and design. Many stretch bolts have a reduced shank, (less than the core of the thread). Anyway, back to my Volvo man and he looked it up when I asked him to order one and said, 'I'm happy to order one, but we've only sold one in ten years' He also went on to say that, 'Volvo specifically show on a parts list when a bolt is a one time use, and this one is not shown as being so'. I'd be happy to hear any thoughts on this subject.

I tried loosening the crankshaft pulley bolt with a ratchet wrench. Something happened, there was a loud click noise. The bolt didn't even budge, and the pulley keeps turning

This is helpful for a job I’m about to tackle, thanks! My belt has gone slack but remained in place, think jumped a few teeth (hoping to be lucky and get away without any damage!) Any ideas how best to get the top and bottom end back in time with each other?

Thanks for the feedback, hmm I'm no mechanic , however I would try and rotate the top and bottom pulleys either way a few teeth until you can get the locking tool in place. I would also be looking into why the belt has slipped too

I don't see why not, that's the way to tighten the bolt so should make no odds. Good luck 👍

There is a chance that the locking tools would get bent inside the gearbox when you undo the bolt.
