I recently got to drive that hill, with a 660 FH16, loaded 65 tonnes, and i have to admit (Being a Scania-fan) it's and incredible engine, you have done a very good job Volvo!

when you are just a 21 year old, and feel so amazed that you want to try a FH16 once for yourself, eventhough you never driven a truck before.

I'm 18 and I'm already a truck driver. First truck I ever drove was a Volvo FM 380 from 1994. Next was a Volvo FH 440 from 2008. Next was a Scania R500 V8 from 2009. Next was a Scania R730 V8 from 2012. Now I'm driving a Scania R420 from 2009.

@@GumpPower I started working at a different company a month and a half ago so I'm currently driving a S520 6x2 semi truck. Not a regular semi truck, though, cuz the wheelbase is slightly longer so the max gross weight is 50 tons.

I had the 1989 verison of the F16, great times.

Impressive Power in that Volvo FH16 750 ... Remember that hill , But last trip took me down the hill ;) And btw : Göteborg is great city 2 visit ...

My father is lorry driver, and he always says: -Volvo is the best and most quality, safety truck in the world. We will buy a new Volvo FH series and we will work together. It's the best investment for future. Thank you Volvo.

Best looking trucks out there

The I-Shift is fantastic in the woods, i'm driving timbertruck and have done so since i graduated.. starting -07 whit a 520 FH12 manual gearbox, and when I-shift came around i wasn't sure about it in snow-and-mud conditions, i was taken whit a blast! it's so great and gears fast and was nothing of what i tought it to be.. but the shift-buttom should be more sensitive! in some case i've got stuck in hills in winter just because it dosn't gear down 3 steps and just take two even if i push it 3 :)

....But the first who offered a big distance cab was DAF with their Space Cab .A little later Volvo came with the Globetrotter.Not to mention Bussing AG back in the early 70s-late 60s.But you always did great trucks...

I wish we had these volvos in the states. No one makes a good cabover here anymore.

I think you can not compare 30 years old truck with 400hp with new modern version with 750hp. But it is too beautiful to see sweden classics.

they are also around 1,5 mill kr in norway, but it depends if you want it in topline or highline version

Here in USA only sells the Volvo 780 which is the best in the USA

the average European trucks are actually heavier than the average US ones, they run at 40 metric tons or about 88,000 lbs, while the average US truck runs at 80.000 pounds

I was privileged to work for a company called L&B Haulage from Wembley i started there in 1985 with F12 6x4 110 tonner Then 1989 my Boss got me F16 465 F340 PLM lots of engine trouble new engine 485 what an animal i had that truck for 18 years Then i got FH16 610 no comparison, The F16 is still about an everyone calls it Jimbos LORRY

That hill is good enough for a test like that. And it's a high traffic piece of road which means that if you have enough power to keep up the pace when going up you will not disturb the flow too bad. On a narrow winding road you won't benefit from power in the same way.

Amazing volvo trucks i hrew up in f12 1986and drove it fot five years worked and made money thousands dollars in iran iraq and afghanistan just i can say exquisite

Any information about fuel consumption? Of course, it is great to have 750hp and all this torque, but would it worth the money nowadays that diesel price is rising more and more?

In sweden we also got a total weight of 60 tons.

I wish they have mentioned average MPG they got up that hill :-)

Maybe under 5 MPG(US) because of the uphill climb.

@@wws2020 I know my Scania R420 has an average fuel consumption of about 90L/100km. I've never been fully loaded with 40 tons up that hill, besides when I was an apprentice and went up that hill with 440hp and 58 tons. Think I did roughly 25km/h on the top of the hill.

i attacked that hill as guest of Volvo in a 660 at sixty tonne computer said 4mpg it kept pulling and pulling but my F16 opened up propa power my F340 PLM is still around if i ever get the money ill buy it, 18 years i was the pilot i parked her up and still had the plastic on the roof lining FH16 no chance, F16 real power

7% incline?!?!? Is that allot in Sweden? That's just a light crest here in Norway.

performance summary: 7% grade performance at 40 metric tons GVW 45km/h vs 68 km/h 28 mph vs 42.25 mph

You can't call this challenge, the older one has made too much km... Make another challenge to see the difference between 2 new- 440 vs 750. Should be better! :)

I think the 750 should have used another trailer, a 20 foot center axle trailer behind the 40", rules have changed since 1987, the 750 is meant to do more..

i agree with this but still this is childs play comparing to some roads we got here 10% 9km 9%10 km 10% 10km and similar on this case with only 2km vehicle inertion climb you to half of hill

The one and only right choice, is every time the F16. Not the Fh ... yeah ...

There is a hill that all truckers must fear, and that is the one located in Skule, every single winter at least one truck gets stuck a week, especially foreign truckers.

i-Shift gearbox are very intelligence than any other gearbox.

it's though i always go down a full range in that hill. Even i drive Scanni R500 V8. i have driven volvo to i like the I shift and opticruse

Is for the steering angle, the roads are not as wide, and are not so heavy as the American trucks.

Meanwhile in some part of the world people still buy new truck with 30yo technologies because of its simplicity

Driving a Scania R500 uphill loaded to 49 tonnes and seeing a Volvo 480 also loaded to 49 tonnes overtake me and pulling away kind of puts me off this assumption you have made here. Even a 500 hp MB Actros pulls away from the 500 hp Scania, a bit slower than the Volvo but still pulls away.

It depends on the driver. If u can floor it all the time the scania will pull away. The new gen scania's are even faster. Never seen a mercedes pull faster than scania eventheir latest ones struggle a bit.

Now let's put 100 tons like over here in Brasil to see how it's peform.

@Krille3 i call tough 8% 10km on narrow winding road with lot of serpentines, i call tough hill 9% 10km same conditions like this before , where there is ice almost all year on top of hill i call tough 11% 7km .....

The test is ok, I guess. Definitively shows the progress during the years. But they should have crossed the border into Norway, for some proper hills. :)

I just wish they would allow the sale of the Volvo FH-16/750 in the United States. They sell all the conventional Volvo's but no cabovers. The U.S. still makes cabovers from companies like International, Kenworth and Peterbilt but only for export markets only. There are no new cabovers sold in the U.S. and haven't been since International quit selling them here back in the 1990's.

That Volvo F16 from 1987 look like new, i like old cars.

amazing truck, looks good and has enormous amount of power as well, but in my opinion scania is still a better truck even if it has less power, of course thats just my opinion by i can honestly say that would be more that happy to drive this fh16

Volvo remains the best truck in the world. I like the classic F16, but FH16 it's something newer which save fuel, save time in transports, quickly delivery and faster! Congratulation Volvo!!!!!!!!!

H2k looks like you dont live in us? never been to new york city Brooklyn or stanten island? or better yet Philadelphia downtown? id love to see how far youd make it in a vnl780.. new york country part has a couple 9% grades so does pennsylvania dont forget i78 in west Virginia or i80 in Pennsylvania and i usually stay in the east and south coast i have not gone west yet but theres always a first have a great day

I drive a Volvo fm12 Artic on tipper work on Average we go though wheel washers 15 times a day and Believe me there never out of Volvo with Electrical trouble

D16 Volvo was total disaster on the US market for Volvo , though when it ran correctly (rare) it could blow the doors of any Hoods with the Kitty Cats

Only the v8's mate... a 6 cylinder scania would probebly stall at the foot of the hill. :p

i used to drive a f16 470 globetrotter was a great truck now drive a fh13 480 much less space and just dosent pull like those older models

I would still take the old F16 over the fh. You feel like your doing the driving in the old unit with a manual 12 speed box.
