You probably have the answer by now, but if not - As you lift the filter up out of the housing, that post/plug opens up a drain hole that lets all the old oil drain back into the sump from the housing and filter element. If you install a new filter and press the plug into the drain hole, you can partly refill the housing with new oil to reduce the time the engine runs before it builds up oil pressure to refill the housing. I second what Fireblade mentioned earlier, be very cautious about using Crosland filters, they are not what they used to be! The original filter had a through hole, why have they blocked it off? Stick to Mann, Bosch even original equipment. I found your channel through your Lidl battery charger repairs - nice work. Cheers.

Yes, Thanks. I had a couple of others filling me in. There was some interesting info on the Patent for this filter that I have done a quick video. It seems this arrangement is not without some serious issues.

Maybe the filter should be the right side oriented inside. So they put something that doesn't allow to tighten it reverse rotated. Mechanical lock. Obstacle.

Thanks for the comment. I worked out what it is for after a little experimentation. I have made another video - i'll upload it. It made be realise the risk of installing it incorrectly.

It's not just a locating peg - to do that wouldn't need an O ring. There must be pressure in the hole that needs sealing. I've no idea why the mount is like it is though.

I know the reason it is there I just thought I would ask everyone if they knew . It is interesting - I looked up the patent. I will reveal in the next video!!!

I think it's just there to locate the filter and keep it center in the hole.. I'm just guessing though. I've never seen that before.

Ooow what a odd setup, there must be an input and output for the mucky oil. That stub with a rubber ring is just silly. Maybe you have to stand on one leg while singing the national anthem of sweden to understand :-D. Keep the floor and tables free of sugar grains, one ant then 100, then its a full invasion. Hard to get ridd of the little blighters.

I thought that but the although the post has a hole down the centre and an O ring it is blanked off so no oil can pass. It seems that for some reason the feed in the engine side is blanked. I wonder if it is to stop the the oil swirl rotating filter like a turbine under high RPM. It is the only reason I can think of... I'm not anti ant.. They are so industrious...

@@razenby If the ants stay outside (in there natural home), i don't bother them, but if they are determined to break into my house and crawl all over the kitchen, they will die. After a hundred don't get back to the nest, they get the idea that it's not good to break into my house. I just make sure the floor and surfaces are clean from anything an ant would like. Flying ants are a pain, but i just close the windows to keep them out.
