If only it had some decent efficiency. 4mi/kWh should be the goal in all combined weather. The mad width of the tyres alone on all new cars are a concern.

Way back in 2009 Volvo were testing a C30 EV prototype test mule in the arctic circle. Terrible that the C30 and smaller, lighter cars in general were killed off. It would make for more accessible, efficient and affordable EVs.

I wouldn't refer to a 4 step process for turning on your lights as a quirk. I would just call it what it is, dangerous. How ae we in a situation where you get points for looking at or touching your phone while driving but car manufacturers are replacing simple buttons with complicated screen menus that require you to take your eyes off the road for what were previously simple tasks

Just a point to note.. 270 BHP .... nobody really needs that in standard driving. In fact. In ICE Cars, the more HP the car has, the more expensive the insurance! Battery cars and PHEV cars tend to have inflated HP, But PHEV can only produce the inflated HP for a short time until the battery is depleted. In the UK, insurance companies are beginning to rate the HP in battery vehicles as a "loading" factor in insurance premiums. High HP in a standard ICE vehicle would be 190 to 210 BHP and that would be normally in the size of car as an Audi A6

270 is not even that much. I think it's because the torque is quite consistent over the whole RPM range for electric motors so if you want enough torque on low RPM it will mean high power on high RPM.

I keep reading and reading comments about the wonders of the buttons and the bad of the touch screens. I would only like to see what happens with someone who starts directly driving their first car, only with a screen. Will you miss the buttons you never use or is it just a matter of habit? In my opinion, the screen can be as effective as any other control system, it is just a matter of learning and that is not easy at certain ages and after years of "full buttons" driving. I agree that any function should be accessible in one, two or at most three steps for unimportant functions. Google and Volvo must work on this interoperability. In my opinion there should be the possibility of having several shorcuts to functions or even better to the creation of Android-style routines and modes. Example: Distracted driving:--> Disable driving watch, disable speeding warnings, Disable lane change, etc etc. If that were possible, I would even admit the characteristic of Volvo returning to its default safe state every time you get out of the car. Ok. Volvo saves its secure brand image and at the same time the driver makes his decision, in a couple of seconds. Everybody happy. For me an addition that I think it would have been very interesting to have done, is the rear sliding benches that the Smart or even my old RAV4 from 23 years ago has. You decide if you want a trunk, or legs.

Where it says EX30 on the C pillar is like the Soul logo on the… Soul ! The EV3 is still looking more appealing to me - really want (and need) to have some switches, buttons and stalks. That’s one of reasons I dumped idea of getting an ID3 originally - too much soft controls. Boot on EX30 is same size as the Soul - and I (and the dog) find that too small. The EV3 also seems to have more rear seat room than the Volvo - and a bigger frunk too. Also, the China build on this Volvo bothers me - at least EV3 is going to be built in Korea ( gather EV5s going into Oz are built in China ☹️).

Of course the attention safety thing will beep at you constantly because you have to keep looking away to the central screen to check your speed & everything else! This coming from safety conscious Volvo is absolutely bonkers. No driver display = no sale for me. I'll stick with our '22 plate Kona Electric which has a central display, loads of buttons & a HUD.

@@NobbyOnCars I agree. If you push the EX30 it's a slightly better drive. I wonder however if a consumer will ever notice the difference in daily traffic. For the same price the smart#3 has loads of legroom in het back, Electric seats in the front, heated steering wheel, cooled storage compartment, full leather seats, drivers display, HUD, 360 camera, panoramic glass roof, mood lighting, every safety tech in the book, 2 zone cimate control ... I just can't figure out why the EX30 is such a huge sell in most countries. IMO the 2 reasons for choosing the EX30 are: 1: The Google infotainment system 2: The looks of the car

That centre armrest is a really nice piece of design. Whats a card to start it all about? Like the old renaults! They'll get lost or broken constantly. The rear leg room isn't tight, it's non-existant! We couldnt' even fit a brithday gfit behind our passenger seat! Don't forget the feature features though, the bings and bongs will make sure to remind you you're not in a premium interior - it's all plastics, don't pretent it's not. It's not even close to other volvos. The performance model, with two motors, will not feel much different from your 2011 xc60, it's still as slow as your ICE-engine - unless you put it into performance mode. In performance mode, it might be somewhat close to other EVs - but you have to activate this every time you get in it!

I like the idea of an EV, but then my brain reminds me that they are expensive to buy, have limited range, depreciate horrendously, and are expensive to insure. Add to that the poor infrastructure, and cost of charging away from home. It just isn't viable for a private buyer. Something has to change.
