Volvo EX30 - NZ Review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Volvo EX30 is generating a lot of attention online due to its looks, performance and gadgetry, but does it match the hype?
To find out, Gav took one for a spin, looking at what you get for your money and whether the extra performance and handling is worth the extra cost over a cheaper vehicle of a similar size, such as an MG4 or a BYD Dolphin.
Speaking of which, if you're interested in how the BYD Dolphin compares, have a look at Gav's review: • BYD Dolphin extended r...
One thing's certain about the Volvo EX30 though, and that's its incredibly low carbon footprint at just 23 tonnes, which includes 200,000 kilometres of driving. Couple it with Ecotricity's clean electricity and you've got a real Climate Change challenger on your hands!
And if you're keen on cutting your carbon footprint, come and join us at Ecotricity, which is now New Zealand's only climate positive electricity provider! That means by switching today, you're actually turning back the clock on Climate Change, while saving money in the process.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it's not! Ecotricity is real, with really affordable electricity, thanks to it being purely renewable.
Head to www.ecotricity.co.nz and chuck in your address to see how much money & carbon you can save right now. It's that easy and it makes a real, positive difference for the next generation.

I watch your reviews even when I’m not interested in the car. You’re that good at reviewing.

Exactly why I subscribed. And I love EVs so it's win win. He's brilliant!
Great review, thank you! Picking up mine tomorrow in Wellington. 🤩
My performance dual motor arrives in a week. Most entertaining EX30 review I have seen to date.
Two Volvo reviews in as many days? You're spoiling us, Gav :-) Some interesting quirks with this one. A lot of good features, performance etc, but not so sure about the Tesla-esque "bung everything on the screen" thing. Physical buttons, and speedo etc right in front of your eyes is something I'd be more comfortable with. Still, another good option, if a little on the pricy side. Thanks, Gav!

I remember when this was launched. Volvo was very clear on why they did this. Mean all the tech and expensive stuff are in a central module. This platform was designed to be used for many different models and easier for repair

Cute car but it’s very small and very expensive for something that has so much cost saving in it (that’s why it’s so spartan inside).
Nice delivery. Ordered mine last month❤
Great review, Gavin. Like many drivers, I prefer to have dashboard telemetry in front of the steering wheel. I took a Volvo EX 30 for a drive yesterday, but I prefer the Polestar 2 and Volvo XC 40 Recharge. Safety is not a boring subject. Volvo has inspired many other auto makers to create safer cars.
There is a blind available for the panoramic roof, it’s getting clipped into the sides. Here in Thailand I never open mine in my XC60. Wouldn’t opt for it if I had a choice but with the blind it’s not a deal breaker.
Tinder? You don't need Tinder my man. Love the hairstyle by the way!
I love it and want one … not in Aussie yet tho ..Love your videos !!
It's beautifully styled, I like this and its sister division car - Polstar 2, We don't get this car in Canada, but they do offer a full EV XC40 Recharge, starting at 63K ! really great review!!!
Excellent review 👍
Great balance of features. Will be fascinating to see how the AWD version compares, particularly if has the promised software feature updates and ability to tow. This has definitely perked my interest in the EX30.
Great review as always. Shame some of the ergonomics are bit strange, but I still wouldn't mind one of these in my garage. I'm only about $70k short!
Well, that's a sub from me, great review thanks. I've only recently got a second hand Kona facelift but this could be a bargain in 2-3 years, just in case my 6.5 secs 0-60 wasn't fast enough :)
Hopefully you can review the BYD and Radar utes when they are released!
"it has seated heats" 🤣🤣
So cool!!!
Gavin could do a two hour review of a tomato and I still would love watching 😅 Apart from that: reasonable car, thought I'm more a button pressing type of driver

You say tomato, Gav says potato 😊
Was it really made in Sweden or made in China by Geely(?) for our market based on the Swedish design. Huge thank you to Ron for his cameo and showing real world backseat leg room it is very much same size interior room as the original Kona.

Great review Gav. Self deprecating humour, engaging, to the point and always covers the good, the bad and the ugly (if there is any). I know a lot more about the EX30 now and it sounds great but way overpriced for it's size.
Not Swedish anymore. It has been under Chinese ownership since 2010,
Amazing review.you should do Mor car reviews mate .
Still waiting for a link to a list of all the Spud Scores.
The wipers are on the LEFT stalk NOT the RIGHT one as suggested. The latter is the transmission shift.
love 🥰 seated heats
Ok car given the competitors in the segment. In Nz, consumers are price sensitive. I don’t see many of these selling here. Tesla Model Y is far superior car at more than $10k cheaper right now..
When will you review the new Kia EV5?
Absolutely love and want one of these, but 40k(75k NZD) USD is out of a lot of people's price range....including mine. I got my used Chevy Bolt, which consistently gets 280 miles of range per charge, for 17k USD(28NZD) with only 12,000 miles on it. Sure, it's not classy or cool, but it's affordable.
It's a fully connected and integrated car. To open the windows you can ask Google to do it.
What's not to like? The massive sunroof means baked potatoes in summer, and the air scrubber means the after effects of a nice spud with chilli and cheese can be easily eliminated before the next tubertastic taste sensation... Forget fumes, farewell farts...😁
The built-in heat pump depends on the market. In Spain, we only get the heat pump on. the top models😔. For me, that isn't a positive.
Xc 40 now Ex40 is a better option I think, but great review.
Yeah! Why isn't recirculation default?! It's one of those things like with software designers, I bet they don't admit to their products at party's. Or if they do, it the last time they admit it.
2:30 seated heats... you don't say :)
Be careful not to use air recirc all the time-fresh air(not behind diesel etc) is better than re-circulated air.
Please please please test its twin sister the Smart#1 soon…????
No opening sunroof - 3 spuds Portrait only tiny infotainment - 3 spuds No V2L- 5 spuds No line of sight inst. panel - 3 spuds Great handling and zip + 10 spuds Value compared to Atto 3 ER - 10 spuds
Not keen on the white dot pattern on the door cards and lower dashboard

I could not believe it when I fist saw those door cards, I used to make fibreglass boats and we would spot the interior flowcoat with contrasting coloured spots to hide the fibreglass weave, this is a very basement look in my opinion.

@@TerryHickey-xt4mf Yes, it looks like paint splatter to me. Looks terrible. That one is called "Breeze". The other better/normal ones are called "Mist", "Pine", "Indigo".
$6k more than equivalent Model Y. Disappointing.
I love electric cars and I love your show; but these cars are made by Geely in China.

Royal Oak roundabout is not for a beginner
I HATE open centre storage. Seems to be all the range nowadays. I don’t want junk in open display in my car.
It DOESN'T have Android Auto !!!!! It runs the Android Automotive Operating System which is a different thing entirely! It also has no data connectivity via any of the USB sockets - they supply power only.
You have to pay extra for carpets made of fishnet stockings 😊
I thought they only had one manufacturing plant for the EX30 in Zhangjiakou China. Both Volvo and Polstar are really trying to push the Swedish connection to try and avoid the same mistake MG made (IE most young people think of MG as Chinese not British).
Geez you’re flying close to the bone with that tinder trash reference - lucky you’ve not imported any dieselils 😅
Rear seats are like those in an old 2+2. Only of any use for small children
Lost me at firm ride..😢

The (stupid, non-standard) 20" would not be helping at all. I'll bet the 19" version rides much better.) Same as my BMW i3 on 19s (not 20s), and Model 3 (on 18s, not 19s.)
The interior looks like something you can wash out with a garden hose ...

What a great car - no wonder why people are waiting for this one
These new cars make me laugh. Our city Kia picanto has got over 1000l of boot space after folding the seats and it’s a much smaller car.
Interior looks like a 1970's kitchen! Also Tesla style lack of physical controls not ideal☹
Ahhh… Not fishnet stockings???😂
Was that your funny bone? It looked funny🫠
Can automakers stop blindly following all the teslaisms? Nobody wants to control the glovebox through a screen, centre mounted or not. #tryharder
More Congo Cars
$80k for a Chinese hatch made by Geely, crazy. May have some Swedish input on the design but lacking safety and ergonomics with centre screen,no hud or screen in front of driver. Volvo has been Chinese owned for a long time now so it's just a badge on a Geely which is fine but has too many flaws to be good value.

11:20 Sweden only sends 1% to landfill because the country burns about 49% of its household waste (4.6 billion tonnes annual). Incineration is cynically classified as “recycling” in Sweden because it’s used to generate heat energy.
Wait until the EU physical controls requirement kicks in. Can't believe the no HUD or drive centred instruments from a company that used to actually care about safety, design and ergonomics
Why would you choose that over the Atto 3? You don't like auto-opening sunroofs and shade? You hate rear leg room? You like boring interiors?
@petergorton9848

Some folks - like me - prefer this by a mile over the weird interior of the Atto3. Different strokes for different folks - the more (EVs), the merrier.
Seated heats 😂
What a joke , Volvo equals safety yet interior has no aircon buttons etc
"swedish" Volvo cars is owned by Gelly aka China company. So has not been swedish for a long time now, sadly.
Yet it's not Swedish.

@@petergorton9848 My comment was purely factual. The video states that Volvo is Swedish, virtually no mention of Geely ( a brief aside). I've got absolutely no problem with Chinese made vehicles, but I have everything against misrepresenting actual facts.
Not a fan of the exterior, and the interior is horrible. It's not Swedish either..... it's Chinese..... at the moment.
Overyhyped very average car. And please don't call it 'Swedish made'. It's neither on a Swedish platform nor made in Sweden nor owned by Sweden.
Too expensive for me ... Outside my budget
