    Tips: - remove the fuse box! Makes it so much easier. Two 8mm bolts and one 14mm bolt. Also disconnect connector inside. -remove the 3 T25 torx on the abs bracket to give you room Use a SHORT E5 torx to remove. And a swivel socket wrench

    I just replaced the BCM on my 2004 Volvo S80 by following this video. The hardest part for me was removing the air filter box. I found that using a 3/8" socket on a long extension and firmly pressing down on each of the three 4 prong retainers compressed them enough and aided in removal of the box. Hope this helped.

    Oh thank you so much! I bought a rare tuned 2004 S60 for a restoration project, and recently had a broken coolant hose (no overheating, no damage, lots of running). Swapped the ECM back for a tuned one finally (as all the issues seemed to be gone) - and bang!, "Brake failure, stop safely!", also "BCM NOT CHECKED" error in the DTC list mode. What could it be, assuming a brief CAN shut-off? ECM? CEM gone electrocuted? Nope, this little thing has a tiny air vent like seen on harddrives, and the coolant from the hose hit the transmission, evaporated and flew in there, where it shorted the crystal, hanging the MCU. Thought of trying to drive to some service station, yet thanks to your video just took the BCM off and cut it open to see the mess. Will re-install today once the new seals are hard enough, though by the test (open, free-standing BCM connected to the harness) just a good "brainwash" was enough to fix this babe for no cost.

    @@oshertzarfati3178 Yep, tho I used a petroleum solvent instead. See, 7 months already, and good as new. I re-opened it somewhat recently (wanted to re-seal it with a non-acidic compound, although by how it looked after 5 months I figured it was pretty much pointless - still did it because better safe than sorry). Still to warn you: like people said, my case was extremely rare (had the board mostly clean with a single large drop almost perfectly on the crystal), so it may or may not work for you (the symptoms, however, were pretty obvious in my case). So far I've managed to successfully repair every failing module (in my case, DIM, ECM, BCM, the mirror board and the alarm, also modified the buttons to be LED-lit with a very close-to-stock look), so feel free to ask on those.

    I tried the 1/4 hand ratchet on a 2005 volvo xc 90 It worked only for the 2 screws easiest to access. After an hour or two and gave up trying to get the third one the deepest in. there was no room to swing the ratchet handle even if I got the socket on the screw head.I needed a power ratchet to overcome that problem and it had to be a thin extended reach one. Space there is very tight. A cordless extended reach 1/4 cost about $180 /tool, battery and the charger/ I went with a $21 air ratchet /I already had an air compressor/, I bought one at Harbor Freight. A CENTRAL PNEUMATIC 1/4 " AIR RATCHET WRENCH ITEM 34900. It fit in the tight space there with ease and I had the screw out in 5 minutes. Advice : Spread some cloth in the area you work. If you drop a screw or a small torx socket in there, you will most likely never see it again.

    Two important points: (1) Need a 1/4 drive TORX SOCKET to remove the 3 torx bolts underneath the BCM and (2) the connector cover engages and pulls back SLIDING RAILS within both sides of the connector that release the connector from the BCM (the rails were why he moved the cover back and forth and why the cover did not move freely)

    Also... if you buy a used module you DO NOT have to reprogram. All lights come off (plug/play). I still recommend this vendor for rebuilds as they are THE BEST and you'll have more safety and reliability with their part.

    Thanks for the video! I have a question, some say on the forums the error lights on the dash have to be cleared at a dealership, but in the video you said the error lights were off once the new module was installed. Is this if I send the original module in to Xemodex to be rebuilt? Or did you clear the error codes and not show that in the video?

  • @XemodexInc

    @XemodexInc

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Todd Wilson Hi Todd. The error codes in the video are related to the brake control module. Once the module is repaired and re-installed into the vehicle, the error codes should automatically clear. Sometimes the BCM may induce codes with other modules, but if the BCM is repaired then the codes should clear. Particular error lights like the SRS have to be cleared at the dealer, but the BCM does not set off this error light.

    @@mariaa9728 If you either send the \abs module away to be fixed then the warning lights will disappear, I fixed my own back then but I watched a video on youtube to do it, that is by removing the ABS module myself and bending over the pins on the circuit board, but while it worked it only lasted about 6 months before the same warnings returned, so I would recommend sending the unit to a repair centre to have it repaired the correct way, look on Ebay, or Google it, their are a few around, I bought a secondhand one for £100 from a scapyard, works ok, but it too has a warning ligt but not an ABS warning light, so it passes the MOT ok !

    You advice was to disconnect the battery before removing the BCM. Now if I was following Xemodex's BMC flow chart, one of steps involved checking for voltage at the BCM connector. So after taking out the connector, I then reconnect the battery in order the test the connector?

    Hi Nik. We suggest that you keep the battery connected and follow the flow chart to determine the fault. Once you have determined the fault with your vehicle, you can disconnect the battery and attempt to remove the BCM.

  • @XemodexInc

    Hi Ty. I spoke to our tech and he said it could be the BCM, CEM or DEM. He said in some years the LIN network for the BLIS system also had issues with the wiring. He said it's hard to tell unless we have the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC). He suggests that you first get your vehicle scanned for diagnostic trouble codes at a Volvo specialty shop or dealer that has the ability to scan all the modules in your car's network. If you can provide us with these diagnostic trouble codes we can help you determine the fault. You can contact our technical support department toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 (US & Canada) or email us at info@xemodex.com.

    @@robinbarrera3797 Probably too late, but my issue was the same, caused by the air vent (a tiny hole in the BCM with some metal lid) leaking coolant fumes or some washing agent or something like that into the module. Just remove the BCM and wash the insides :) Some also report the MCU soldering may rarely corrode and fail, not a tough one too. Also some report the connector pins may wobble in the PCB if corroded enough, solder them in in this case.
