Top tip with the sunroof drains, remove the orange cap on the end of the drain in the engine bay. Fixed mine this way

Have a VW Passat estate B5.5 and now 24 years later I now get my son’s to clean the drain hole in the engine bay under the battery tray. First time the ( NS ) passenger side was completely underwater and filled up the rear passenger footwell was completely underwater as well. I now have a wiper arm removal tool, plus I remove the plastic trim that is between the windscreen and engine bay. I have to do it like this to get to the battery. First time trying to do this job my son snapped the plastic cover trying to get the battery out. It took ages to get it out & back in. Now I have trees dropping leaves and twigs that start blocking up my space between the windscreen and engine bay. Now I have a new leak in the rear boot / tailgate that has all of a sudden appeared. She is 24 years old and still a great car to drive and still do not want to change a car that is still like new.

Shocking how these are a new design and the old faults have not been fixed.

I have a 67 plate vw and cant see where to unplug and clear the drain from the sunroof cassette. Is there a follow up video showing this?

Great video - thank you! Question- I have an MY13.5 Pasaat AllTrack with a full length sunroof. Are there only drain holds in the front or are there 2 at the back as well?

I don't know, I don't think we have done one of those. But I would suspect so, full length sunroofs usually have four.

I have the same car with this sunroof. My car is wet everywhere! Even in the trunk.

had this blockage on my Passat B8 GTE, water then ran into my PHEV wiring loom at the bottom of the A-Pilar, resulting in up tot 2000€ worth of damage. because of this stupid plug and the lack of checking this at the dealership each time the car has to go in for routine check-ups. VW and AUDI know of this problem, the internet is FILLED with sunroof drain issues but the like the €€€ it provides i guess. I'm having my car repaired, the sold of. No VW for me anymore.

Volkswagen group are well aware of this problem it affects so many models including Audi, Volkswagen, seat, skoda, anything with a panoramic roof even small cars like the Audi A1 are affected, the suvs are the worst from what I've found out the tiguan is heavily affected.

I have a 2011 VW Passat estate with a sunroof and only a driver’s footwell leaking. Am I correct in thinking/saying the leak is either coming from the sunroof and/or the driver’s door?

There are about half a dozen places on any car (of any make or model) that are prone to drainage being blocked or seals perishing. Door membranes and sun roofs are just two of them. Another common one on Volkswagens are the rear air vents. If you look through our playlist on Volkswagens it should cover all of the usual ones. As water always collects in the lowest point, and this is usually the footwell, the water could be coming from anywhere including a leak at the back of the car. This is why we sell inspections, because we can never tell where the leak is until we investigate.

@@newagainautoreconditioning I found a video on water collecting at the bottom of the windscreen, so removed the windscreen wipers & the plastic trim, found the drain on the driver’s side clogged up with several mm of water sat. Cleared it all out and my footwell so far has stayed dry! Really hoping I’ve fixed it now, saved myself a good few hundred pounds getting it inspected at a garage.

@@Ben_9476 Yep, same goes for most things. As long as you have the tools already, you usually save money doing it yourself.

I’ve got the same car and my passenger side a pillow is wet and leaking and a splash on the side in my footwell also,,wondering if this is my problem

The airvents are they behind the bumper they leak often ?

On most cars, yes.

I've got this car without the sun roof and I've got water in the drivers side foot well only, you think it'll be a problem under the front valance?

It could certainly be the sun roof, they can leak too. This is why we do an inspection, to test every area.

So the water is leaking through the grab handle on the roof of the drivers side, I have no sunroof so the only thing I can think of is that the roof rail is leaking, anyone fixed that? These cars are so shit, also got a leaking rear door card!
