The Volkswagen Type 2 minibus is perhaps one of the most iconic vehicles ever built, and now VW has brought it back for the electric age in the form of the ID. Buzz. With a seven-seater version coming later on, the spacious ID. Buzz is a left-field alternative to plug-in SUVs. With very few people carriers left on sale, has the ID. You didn’t mention tested efficiency. Car’s winter test had the Buzz as worst on test at 2m/kWh dropping winter range to 150 miles, god knows what the GTX will be like. Great looking car but wish it had the Korean underpinnings with 800v architecture and V2L for camping/bbqs etc.

Not at any price, i think the time has come for legislation to make manufacturers provide actual buttons and knobs for all basic car controls. Using a touchscreen whilst driving is no different than using a mobile phone. All you are supposed to do behind the wheel is drive and concentrate on driving, not scrolling through menus trying to turn the heating up or down and taking your eyes off the road. Well thats the days rant over

What most reviewers miss on these EV reviews is the max loading weights of some of these cars. Big electric cars that can only carry 3-400kg as a lot of them do are useless when their petrol equivalents carry 6-800kg. I’m 6’2. My lads are even taller. We exceed weight limits for a lot of these cars once we add my wife let alone some luggage etc. Where as the petrol or diesel equivalent of some of the Mercedes for examples still have 1-200kg of loading weight above our body weight

@@masterofwhales what are you on about? It wasn’t relevant previously because it wasn’t a factor but if you buy a Mercedes EQB 7 seater for example and find out it can only carry 400kg I think you’d find it an issue if it can’t carry your family wouldn’t you? It wasn’t something to look at previously because they all carried 5-700kg. If you also have an accident over weight you’ll quickly find out how relevant it is and saying I didn’t care when I purchased it won’t cut it.

I passed my test now two weeks ago and I’ve been spending a lot of time searching for my car. My budget is around £10k max so that gives me options but as a result I’m struggling to narrow it down. I was very keen on Mini hatches but even the newer ones (post 2014) seem so condensed and the front windscreen looks tiny and the view constricted. Any reocmmendations? My second choice would be the Renault Clio. Anyway, more to the point I feel like I do need to start driving again very soon as I sense my confidence would take a hit if I leave it too long. Could you do a video on this at some point? Say, how long after your test should you wait to drive? The problem is I don’t have family/friends who have a car that I can use and be insured on, even hire car companies require you to have your license at least a year, so what options does that give you? Literally the only one is to buy your own car.

Because they are vehicles that are not used for their purpose or even are made to be used as an utility vehicle. It is like using a tank to pull a waggon, instead of a horse. Big, heavy, overpriced, bad fuel economy, expensive to repair and 99% not nearly used for its full potential.

A great overview Richard showing the good and could do better aspects of the car. There are too many niggles for me though and that infotainment system is my biggest gripe. The cost for me is over the top however the practicality is a big plus. I'm not that bothered about the performance but I agree it could/should be better. I think it looks great but I can't shake off the feeling that it has an air of new fashion about it just like the early SUV's did. I hate to say it but at the asking price initially its home territory is likely to be on the driveway of the more affluent areas and that's totally fine. I think it's also likely to be seen on the school run given the practicality. Load this car with a bunch of school children in the colder wet weather it will steam up the windows like a kettle on full boil so those fixed rear door windows will not help clearing the mist. If VW bring down the price, fix, no replace that infotainment system and add some clip open rear windows it may tempt more potential drivers. A performance and range boost would be nice as well. Thanks for sharing.

Nice review. But that car is just not what it should be for the best family electric mini van, cruiser. It does nit have 3 Isofix points for the 2nd row seats, and that is because its not wide enough. Well pretty much every stupid SUV has the same issues but that should not be an excuse. It has a stupid parcel shelf in the boot. The folding seats do not pull up like in a Cady. The range is ... not enough. Try having a couple of kids in and a range of 200+ miles only. And you have to loose time every time on a long family trip. Make it wider for a 3 Isofix chairs in the back, make it more efficient, or put more batteries, or both. And it might be worth the price.

Since Tesla started all cars should hit 60 mph in 5 seconds. Why? In daily driving, you don't need that, it consumes to much energy (while EV's are about efficiency) and is bad for wear on brakes and tires.. I'm happy to see a car that makes sense, a shame it's that expensive and it's a VW 😂

Why won't any reviewers talk about the lack of places for rear passengers to rest their arms? The entire point of this vehicle is nulled. If four of you go for a long trip, the two in the back are going to be extremely fatigued by the time you get there and be uncomfortable the entire way. Nothing comfortable on door for outer arm and no centre armrest for inner arm. Ridiculous.

Doesn't convince me mostly due to the price. I'd expect 3 isofix points and a higher quality cabin for that price. And why is it 20,000 pounds more than the commercial version? Surely it can't cost that much for some seats! VAT is not that much. It looks cheap and cheerful and at 35k it would be tempting. Maybe even 40k given the size. It can't argue it's case as a more environmentally friendly SUV either as it's efficiency is woeful. Only just over half that of a Tesla.

@@carbuyer I think that’s disingenuous. VW are trading on the exterior looks and heritage. The interior does look cheap and nasty, but recycled materials does not have to mean cheap. They are desperately trying to drive up margins by lowering build quality. Luckily, I see the new boss of VW sounds like he will bring the company in a new direction. Sadly, consumers seem to be falling for the low quality, high price products. The “Tesla effect” of removing buttons to the detriment of usability while driving is also pervasive across a lot of OEMs. Will someone have to die whilst changing their fan speed for everyone to wake up?
