Volkswagen Golf R | evo Hot Lap

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Mk7 Volkswagen Golf R was a benchmark hot hatchback during its time on sale, but can the same be said for the latest iteration with its extra power and torque-vectoring rear differential? Steve Sutcliffe laps it around Bedford Autodrome's West circuit to find out how it fares on our leaderboard.

Cannot be compared really, the Golf R is a daily drivable AWD powerful GT, almost premium, the opposite of a civic type R, and certainly not a track tool. Still great performance on the track given that fact ! And great lap vid 😉

I was really surprised at how much that nose didn't want to turn in. I'm sure some PS4s would help rectify some of that understeer. I always find it troublesome when 4WD hot hatches are compared to FWDs. As a FK8 Civic Type R driver I do envy Golf R drivers in slippery conditions however personally speaking I'd still rather be in my Type R for the purer driving experience. Yes the civic looks are challenging but if you're serious about the joy of driving the Type R is a special piece of kit and you'll get over the bold styling. Generally speaking I think a Golf R buyer is a different breed to a Type R punter. They're both absolute weapons in their own right!

Much respect 🙏 well said I've owned 3 golf r mk4 mk6 and mk7 and back in iran we used to drive stick Renaults and Fiats and many bmw and rape them basically. That was fun However back in 2004 I got an audi tts v6 back then with the very first generation of the DSG gear paddle shift style. And that car was so fast and dangerous that only the DSG would be possible to do the same thing we used to do with stick. Anyway I think today date I trust the technology specially from volkswagen group cars. Another factor specifically with my mk7 golf r was that animal would surprise me everywhere no matter who the other car was. It's like it has ears 👂 and hears who is messing with it and based on the situation it would fly. All it needed was simple satege 1 tune with pops and bangs to even surprise me 3 years after I got it new and drove it stock. As soon as tuned it it became an ausi R8 Killer . 60mph to 160mph in literally 5 seconds sometimes with full boost ready

In case you've been living under a rock, there's a chip shortage right now limiting the production of all cars. VW literally can't build the mk8s fast enough to meet demand, hence the huge markups right now. Dealers in the US are asking $50k for GTIs and $60k for Golf Rs.
