Volkswagen EOS VR6 Air Intake Modifications - Overview

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video discusses the air intake modifications I have done to my 2008 Volkswagen EOS VR6. Rather than purchase a expensive aftermarket cold air intake, I have modified the existing system to flow air.

This is some good info, not a lot of ppl go into depth on simple things like this.

The actuator that you removed is for cold climate markets and it is for emissions (secondary air injection). The snorkel on the outside draws in warm air from the engine block, though I am not sure in what conditions that actuator closes. The European intake is 1K0-129-607 and the US (or cold climate) intake is 1K0-129-607-B.

Does it throw any codes if you remove it?

These same intakes are found on CA and AZ cars, so it isn't necessarily for cold climates. The actuator isn't electronic nor vacuum controlled nor heat controlled. Mine was open at all times and never closed whether or not it was hot outside, cold outside, engine cold, engine hot etc. Some R32 owners speculated that it is supposed to be closed and only opened if the front section of the air intake is clogged and the suction from the TB forces the flap open to draw in air. Not sure I believe that but it makes a little bit of sense for it to bet being pressure activated.

No codes and the motor runs better with all of the hot air ingestion points sealed off.

@@2phast in the eyes of a vehicle manufacturer, all of the US is a cold climate. When a car is made for the US market, the manufacturer has no idea where in the US it will go, which is why all cars have to be compliant with CA emissions these days. Considering that these parts are 15 years old or older, I would not be surprised if none of them work as designed at this point. What I stated was the original intent though, which also makes sense why Europe had a different part since emissions regulations are different from the US.

@@2phast I am not knocking what you did either. I did the same thing, which is why I stumbled on your video. I was running the Forge Intake on my R32 for a decade and decided to return to stock with a high flow filter. I did this while I was in there.
