Volkswagen Dual Mass Flywheel
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I had a knocking / rattling noise in my 2011 Jetta TDI at idle. The problem turned out to be a worn dual mass flywheel. In this video, I have removed the transmission to access the flywheel. There are many other components removed to access other parts I am replacing on the vehicle while it is apart.

Yes sir, I remember your comment. Thanks again!
Wow, this is AWESOME!!! Thanks so much for taking time to make this video. Now I know why my repair place estimates $3,000 to fix that rattley flywheel! What an amazing amount of work & details to get it all apart & back together. I'm blown away. This was a great video. Thanks again!
Damn! I have a similar VAG car and I'm in awe of this mans ability to disassemble it so fast and think it's nothing special. Interesting video - looking forward to the sequel.
The mk5/6 platforms are really simple to work on. You need a few uncommon tools but nothing crazy. I did an engine swap on a sport wagon tdi and was amazed with how little time I need to take apart and put back together. I thought it was gonna be a pain but not at all.
I’m over just glad VW put a hex on the outside of the triple square. I bought my set at Napa 6 years ago. I’m pretty sure nothing else in the world uses them
Doing exactly same on my 06 tdi manual had get new manual transmission it shot a spider gear out in to the clutch. Video was awesome!
I had heard that some euro cars are pretty easy to work on. Other than the multiple sizes, what're your thoughts compared to the domestics?

For this one, it was actually quite easy to work on! The only part that was a real pain was the thermostat. It is really buried in there!

@@DanielJaegerFilms I'm sure the triple square fasteners can be worrisome as well.
Does anyone know the torque specs to dogbone mount by chance?
Change the thermostat while you in there. That requires removal of oil filter housing and check your plastic pipe to the thermostat.

Luckily I remember to do that before I put it back together lol. It’s in the second part.

Yeah it sat for a while and developed some surface rust. But it definitely fixed the knocking noise I had at idle!

@@DanielJaegerFilms good to hear! I had a Skoda Octavia Scout (same platform as the Jetta) that lost drive when the DMF exploded. Car had only done 5000 miles. Only brand new car I have ever bought 🤦♂️

Excellent observation. What you're seeing there is WD40 residue from when I installed the replacement pilot bearing. The rear main seal is not leaking.

@@DanielJaegerFilms I just figured its a cheap part and since your already there it would be cheap insurance since the car already has 250k+ miles.
In other words you are doing the 50,000 mile maintenance for a Volkswagen
Scotty Kilmer would be screaming his head off about how Volkswagen's are junk and endless money pits...🙄🤣

I swore I would never own a Volkswagen product… until I bought this Jetta. I can honestly say it has changed the way I view VW and Audi vehicles, I actually have a lot of respect for them now.

@@FishFind3000 while I personally have not owned a BMW, I have driven other’s BMWs and have rented them as well. They truly do drive amazingly well compared to the typical vehicles out there.
