4:30 AFAIK, it is common situtaion when you re-connect the battery. Turn the engine on and rotate the steering wheel all the way to one side, than to another side. Repeat full rotations side to side until all errors are gone. Works on my Skoda, probably will work on VW too.

You are right. Partially. Golf 4 1.9 TDI ALH (and all other VW powered cars like Seat and Skoda from that generation, but only the 1.9 TDI ALH ones) are the most reliable DIESEL powered cars ever made in Europe. Still around to this day. I personally have a 2003 Passat which had an AVF engine at first, swapped to ARL, that has been running for 1.2 million km (~720k miles). Only other car I would ever drive, personally, would be a Toyota Hilux 3.0 Diesel from that generation. Those things just won't break.

You usually dont see those weird contraptions/mechanical failures because most vehicles on the market never get this old in the first place and or isnt a regular sight in some of the poor countries shown in the video. Yes, of course a 1.9 TDI isnt literally indestructible but it usually lives forever. Error codes tho... Well most other manufacturers just use half as much sensors.

I heard of a guy who done his apprenticeship at a VW dealership. 80 thousand miles and they were in DIRE condition. Oil POURING down the engine block and ALL SORTS of crazy stuff that even junky GMs couldn't do. They're utter junk. Go watch The Humble Mechanic. They've got camshaft made of soft steel and all sorts of stupid manufacturing faults. Some engines have a dozen different common failures. ALL to do with design and building with rubbish materials
