    Thank you PJ! We were very happy with this plane, and hope that you'll consider it. Totally agree Volantex is making a pretty high quality plane these days! I only wish they'd replace the elevator and rudder servos with Emax Metal Gear 12g servos (same size as a 9g plastic gear servo...and very powerful!!!). Maybe I need to make that mod at some point, as it'd be super easy to do...

    Hey Brian!! Thanks for the phoenix vids. You inspired me to get one and post a few vids. I started flying RC in November and can't stop. I can't explain how flying makes me feel! I just hope to get a little south of where I live (coastal Oregon), so I can learn to fly some much faster slopes. Most of the beaches close to me don't have much to give in lift so once in awhile I have to use some motor.....but who cares! I'm having fun and getting some really good shots of the areas I fly. I didn't go full house on my setup, but man.....its still nice to fly. Thanks again Brian!!! (and camera person)!!!!!! :)

    AWESOME!!! I get what you're saying - flying is a strangely fulfilling experience. It takes 100% of your focus, especially when you're new. It's a hard fought skill that can't be bought. It's rewarding, and NOT easy! When you get it, you have a skill that few have, and most don't understand! Keep at it and you'll be expert enough to fly just about anything!!!

    If you have a DX6, you will probably want at LEAST a DX8, but if you can stomach the cost, go for the DX9, or if you really want to go all out IX12 OR IX20 ;) If you get the latter, make sure you tell you wife you order the cheap one and they accidentally sent you the expensive one - then you won't have to live in the neighbors dog house ;) Transmitters... iX20 - bit.ly/2Rv1d3M (I would be jealous of your transmitter ;) iX12 - bit.ly/2yOEDN7 (this would be used for years to come) DX9 - bit.ly/3eh3klx (yeah, if you can stomach the additional price) DX8 - bit.ly/2xmsD5f (This one would be the Minimum I would recommend, if you already have a DX6) DX8e - bit.ly/34uxoWn ("e"s is okay, but I don't know that the savings is worth the difference in price) TS8G Plus - bit.ly/39Vxwzy (this would be a good option, if you're really tight on cash, but it's HARD to setup)

    Hey Brian!! This model really flies fast on a 3S 2200. I was a little surprised. I didn't go full house, just the 5 channel setup. (I've been flying since November 2020) have you tried on a 4S battery? Did you stay with the expo setup? I set up my dual rates and expo as per your instruction and it flies pretty good. The crappiest servo was on my rudder. It actually stripped in flight. I was able to land it by countering with ailerons and a LOT of luck! Another pilot was out and saw it happen and gave me a metal gear servo as a replacement. No issues since then. Thanks for showing us this model and how you got it set up. GO FLY!!! 🛩🛸✈

    I used a 4S on the stock configuration of the ASW28 (Same motor and ESC combo if I understand right) and with my ASW28, the motor would "Fart"...when the timing gets out of whack. Pretty tough when you wait till the last second and give throttle, and nothing happens! Especially when you're WAY out and you can't hear it NOT working - very bad issue to have.... I found 3S totally fine on this plane, so that's what I always used.

    nice review, I flew this plane down in Florida at the 44th Tangerine Soaring Meet, basic setup with 3 position flaps and a vario, there was 72 sailplanes in the electric class, I finished second, i was competing against some beautiful 3 and 4 meter full carbon sailplanes that cost $2,000 to $ 4,000, so foam beats out carbon at the biggest soaring contest in Florida.

    I bet they were pissed!!! It is a great plane for the money, and it's not bad stock!!! I still thing for longevity sake, replacing the elevator and rudder servos with Emax 12g Metal Gear Servos, would be a super easy, relatively inexpensive upgrade. Did you add anything to yours, or just stock?

    Hi Brian. Great build and fly series, although I was out of my old RC element when it came to setting up the radio. Most of the buy links for the Tx go to discontinued models. Here's what most of us need: A buy list with links to a minimum and middle price range. The DX-16 is/was over $600. Would something around $200 to $250 work, and which brand? Your buy site for the plane isn't a dedicated hobby site. Tower doesn't have the Phoenix. Hobbyking is backordered on the the plane today. So TX, receiver, which batteries (probably need more than one for the field), other electronics as options, the charger is almost the price of the plane, balance tips, on board battery readout, stabilizer (not sure how they work). I'm only used to highstart launches; these motorized gliders are new to me. With the DX16 this gets over $1,000. A good target for everything is around $600 if possible. Anyhow, check your buy links to see which ones are still good. It would be great to give you all the affiliate commissions. ART Update: Hobbyking has it in stock at $139.33. They are showing it as a 759-3 vs. 759-2. Length 1283mm vs. 1132 on Banggood, although the weight is the same. PNF vs. PNP. I think they are the same thing except PNP is trademarked. Are you / can you be an affiliate for Hobbyking?

    I have so many videos, it's very challenging to keep all the links up to date. I spend almost 3 evening just updating 90 videos. Here's my basic links. Everyone has a different price point, so this is the challenge. I usually share the link to the item reviewed right at the top, then I have a bunch of other items lower for people to choose from. I've also added links to SITES, so that if you don't see it, you can navigate to the whole web site, then just make your choice. Every little bit helps, and at this point of my life, I refuse to make a Patron account...even though some have suggested I do....I just don't feel right begging for money...I DON'T feel bad at all asking companies benefiting from my marketing to share about 1-3% on sales. I feel this is fair, and it keeps me honest...I don't care what people pick, but I want to be know for being honest, even if I stand to gain a few buck a month from purchases from a particular vendor. I really do like Horizon Hobby, and they are great, but they aren't perfect. I liked Hobbyking much more when I was first getting into this hobby as I was spending less, and nobody was sending me gear to use...which they are now, at such a pace that I can hardly keep up. This was what I asked for, and I'm loving it...and hating it at the same time. I'm struggling to get from working, and then doing this on the side to ...doing this, and then not working ;) Either way....here's my "generic" links... I have other lists too for some of my most popular, and more in depth reviews....like the Airbus A330-600 (30Million+ Views) This is marketing for my channel, and it's one of my worst videos - super annoying, BTW!!! My phoenix 2000 set up was super basic but very effective. Flaps either hard on or off. I would fly or weave in fast and low then slam on the brakes, and hand catch. Technique works well in confined or non existent landing areas or in ground turbulence

    TWO houses...you must be gluttons for punishment - LOL ;) My wife's dad was a builder for the better part of her life, so she's been around it for her whole life, and as a kid, my parents built two houses, one of which my Dad had to rebuild after it was hit by a tornado. Also, my Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, and Cousins have been building houses from when we were very young too. We used to get together to pour concrete (mostly just flat work), and install trusses together. The deal went something like this...if you can help, you better help, since you might be the benefactor on the "next" build. We did this maybe 10 times throughout my childhood. I actually fell into a stack of trusses and landed, cutting the pad of my thumb really bad, which was awesome as it got me out of framing our house (the one that got hit by a tornado) for that summer. We're fortunate to have lots of background, but even still, it's hard to get people to show up as the economy is booming (in spite of what the fed chairman has been trying to undermine for his whole term!!!)

If you want to save weight, time the first few flights, and then set a timer on your transmitter (or get telemetry, if you want to drop a wad of cash on it...)

    No, won't act as a vario...it's basically a REDUNDANT receiver. It's more for planes that have carbon fiber blockages to avoid radio interference / disconnections, and this sort of thing. If you want VARIO, we have that now, all day long in our more current Rx offerings. I'd suggest the AR637T or AR8263T if you want AS3X (Stabilization) and/or SAFE (Auto-Leveling) - Here's a link to another video where we set it up, but just imagine it were in this Phoenix, if you wish. It will run the motor, and the ESC and Motor are supposedly rated for 4S, BUT the motor will FART...and you will go to give her throttle, and the motor will NOT spin up (but instead - "fart")...then you'll be able to get it to start only after throttling down to 0%, then back up... I've experienced this with my ASW28, with the same stock ESC/Motor Combo, and I lost the plane because of it ;( That being understood, I was a lot less experienced pilot at the time.

Turn on TX Full Throttle Plug in plane (use caution so you don't get cut) Wait for songs form ESC (through the motor) Then Throttle to 0% Done Fly and enjoy ;)

    Hi Brian, is breaking when the prop stops turning completely? Can you pl tell me what is breaking and when you would need it. Also, “crow”. What is crow? Thanks

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    5 жыл бұрын

    ESC Braking is when the ESC actively STOPS (or resists) the rotation of the motor when the signal is below a certain threshold, usually at or near zero throttle, which is how the folding prop folds back. Without braking, the prop will "tractor", or spin free. The centripetal force will keep the prop OUT, and there will be a tremendous amount of drag, without the offsetting thrust from a powered prop. As for "CROW" AKA "CROW Breaking" AKA "BUTTERFLY"... this is when you have the inboard flaps down, and the outboard ailerons both up, while still functioning as ailerons (also know as SPOILERONS ...Spoiler + Aileron). This forces the outboard portion of the wing to bleed off much of the lift being produced, while creating lots of drag on the inboard portion of the wings, all while allowing the pitch of the plane to remain in a nose down attitude, without gaining speed. This slows down the plane, almost to a stop, but lowers the stall speed dramatically, and keeps the plane docile because the ailerons are still relatively effective at a very low airspeed. The breaking is a MUST on a sail plane, as they aren't designed to fly under power, but rather to be carried to altitude and then sailing back to ground, or thermaling, or sloping. As for CROW, this helps to get a plane slowed down FAST! It DOES work, and it makes a HUGE difference. You need to try BOTH, if you're not already using these features ;)

    It's especially good on sail planes that have ONE wheel :) OR any plane you might want to catch, or land in a very tight spot. You need Three channels for this wing....ONE channel for both flaps, ONE channel for the LEFT Aileron, and ONE channel for the RIGHT Aileron. You can not have crow with any less than three channels. "Expo" is Exponential output. It's a way to make the sticks less responsive in the middle (softer) and fully responsive toward the outside of the sticks. When you use EXPO on Spektrum gear, + expo is soft in the center. You must be used to a competitive brand?

    @@BrianPhillipsRC but check the curve on graf in the radio again. the curve travels toward the center line when you give it expo + But you are right :) Citat: Spektrum radio, a positive exponential value will soften the controls while a negative exponetial will make it more sensitive. This is the exact opposite of Futaba and other radios but also joystick for PC’s with them, negative expo softens the controls near center. the graph in Spectrum radio is totally illogical

    Then a 2200 battery is not too heavy to glide? I probably will buy this plane and i dont know what to take If a 1500mah 25c or 2200 25c. Love all yours videos of the plane :)

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    You could do a 1500mAh or a 2200mAh, but I'd go for the smaller one, if you're trying to thermal. I don't have patience to do a lot of thermaling, but this plane does very well on 2200mAh 3S 60C packs, in my experience. I use 60C packs, only because I'm very mean to my lipos, and feel that I get better life out of a 60C...but to be totally honest, a "fresh" 25C would probably be just fine :) Good luck!!!

    I'm a beginner and I've been training on my Apprentice s15e and want to get a powered glider is this a good glider to start and grow with? My other choices were the Conscendo Advanced and Night Radian?

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    5 жыл бұрын

    I LOVE this plane, BUT you might find the Conscendo Advanced to be a better plane for your next step. Just my opinion, BUT that being said, the Phoenix V2 is AWESOME too. You might even like it better since it's a little bit bigger, but the Concesndo Advances is BETTER....

    Lol 🤯I appreciate the response but can u tell me why?

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    5 жыл бұрын

    Like I mentioned, this plane is good, but the Conscendo Advanced is more "complete"...it's more "refined"...but the Phoenix is going to take more effort to get flying good. It's not going to be BAD in any way, it's more that the Conscendo is just better. You will honestly love either. They are BOTH good, but as a beginner, the more refined choice will help you have MORE success....but like I said before, it's totally subjective. If you like the Phoenix V2 better, you should get it first...I have both, well, technically I have the Phoenix Evo 2.6m, Phoenix V2 2.0m, ASW 28 2.6m, ASW 28 2.0m, Conscendo S (the older one with FULL SAFE, not just SAFE Select), and a bunch more sail planes...ASH 26 2.6m, ASK 21 UMX, Sunbird 1.6m, Bird of Time 117", EZIO 1.5m, KA-8 2.25m, Moa 1.5m, Arcus M 2.25m, and that's just the sail planes I can remember ;) My advice is good, but it's sometimes best for everyone to arrive at their own decisions. Good luck!
