Voigtlander 50mm f/2 APO-Lanthar - First look review!

Ғылым және технология

We're very excited to welcome Voigtlander Cosina's native Z lenses to our shelves, and we've finally put our hands on a 50mm f/2 APO-Lanthar to review.
We took to the streets and pier of Brighton on the south coast of England to test this one out. Watch on to find out what we thought!

I use the 35mm f2 APO-Lanthar with my Z7 for landscapes and I love that combination, I am seriously thinking about adding this 50mm as well, it looks so good.

I have the Voightlander 35mm f2 APO and it’s wonderful. It might sound a small thing, but being chipped really helps as the focus square turns green when in focus. This means that you don’t have to turn on focus peaking which I can find distracting when trying to compose with manual lenses. I just wish that Nikon would make the focus point move to the eye when in eye / face detection mode, you would then only need to turn the focus until the box goes green and your in perfect eye focus. I don’t know why this would be impossible as with Nikon AF lenses the camera still finds the eye when it ain’t in focus, so it should work here. I guess that Nikon haven’t thought about this mode with a manual focus lens.

A year later and Nikon did just that, the feature you are asking for is now in the Nikon Z f.

@@thedarkslide yes and it looks like it works really well from the review videos. It would be lovely if they rolled this back onto older cameras, but that may not be possible, anyway, I’m looking for a replacement for my Z7 next year, so hopefully then. P.S. I’ve recently got the Voightlander 50mm f1.0 and have been using it successfully on the Z7, manual focus and all!

I've lusted after voigtlander lenses for so long but I couldn't justify their cost. This one seems like a stellar lens

Lovely rendering from that lens from what I see here. I recently traded my Voightlander 15mm F4.5 and can attest to their build quality and handling (just didn’t shoot at 15mm often enough to keep it).

Voigtlander crushes with their manual lenses. I've got the 40mm f/2 in F mount and it's practically a pancake. This looks just as sharp and with that unique rendering.

Nice glass. I have the Voigtlander 1.4/58 F mount which is an amazing lens. Not quite up there with the Noct-Nikkor, but quite close.

Ahh Brighton. My old stomping ground from university days. Loving the pictures - if only I could afford it (and a new camera to put it on🤣)

Being that I have every other 50 f1.8 F mount lens I adapt to my Z5, I am actually considering this lens for the unique image rendering.

Thought about it, but too much money - would sooner choose a battered 2nd hand Loxia or adapt an oldie --- but hey, i don't buy Leica either, so I am not their audience am I.
