Happy Birthday Kon!
Happy birthday Kon, it's comfy slippers and early nights with a mug of Horlicks from here on in mon vier. 🤣
Hi Kon, nice job on the live stream. What I have learned about photography is to pay attention to light and composition more than equipment.
Kon, watching after the live stream from Prescott, AZ USA, just purchased Z8 decided that since Nikon did not announce the release of the Z6III Z Z7 III, recently sold my D7200 system with all the lenses. I already purchased a Z 28-75mm f2.8. Will add another wide angle zoom in the near future. I have been a freelance photographer since the last 1960's. Worked with 2-1/4" film format, Mamyia TlR, Hasselblad System then the Nikon F series 35mm system until I made the switch to digital in the late 1980's. Taught photography at a high school in the early to late 1970's. That's for sharing. Bill
Z6 III should be announced in the next 4 weeks (was told end of June though).
Great work as always Kon👍👍. These live streams are evolving to be more reflective of you: gear is fun, but photography is about the enjoyment of the art.
Thank you 🙏🏼
I feel like it depends quite a bit what you want out of the cameras. A used Df for £800ish is looking like a pretty good deal if you want a camera focused mostly on a retro SLR like shooting expereince. You've obviously got the optical viewfinder and also the ability to mount literally any F-mount lens and to have autofocus on AF-D lenses. The handling as well is I feel closer to something like an F3 with the ISO and Ex Comp on the top left, I think that makes it better suited for shooting with smaller prime lenses so you can have you hand on the side of it to operate those controls. The ZF I think is a better all around camera, has the retro looks and some of the handling but can be more easily operated like a modern camera, obviously has video, more advanced AF and 1/8000th shutter speed.
Hey Kon! Do you think Nikon will make a 12mp camera dedicated for video?
Not sure, we will see a Nikon x Red line at some point, they might surprise us!
Great work as always on the live stream.
I think that the 15mm, 40mm f 1.2 and 75mm f1.5 make a wonderful (but expensive) combo. Just a fast 28mm is missing. Please Voigtlander think to it !!!
Thanks I tried these lenses hoping to use them on Zf. Amazing lenses, well priced, however, did not buy any. Reason for not buying is that I have to manually close down the aperture after focussing. My loss.
I just picked up a Black Zfc from Japan and attached my home made grip that I used to use on my Nikkormat EL which was the shape of the old MD 12 Motor Drive. I love this combination. Reminds me of my Black FE with the same MD12 motor drive . I’m really enjoying this combination and just picked up the new 24 1.7 lens which has really nice bokeh. I compared it to my full frame 24 F2 Ais lens and the rendering is similar. I haven’t shot the DX format since I had my D300. I had a number of the DX lenses sitting around like the 11 to 16 2.8 Tokina and my 18 to 70 Nikkor zoom as well as 30 1.4 Sigma, which I really loved when I had the D300 in use. It’s nice to be using these lenses again as I really enjoyed using them because they all had their own special character. Thanks for the review and look forward to next one. Regards, Gerry.
Maybe I could ask you two the question because you deal with Nikon exclusively. Is there any reason why Nikon has never come out with a Z 30 camera with a evf viewfinder like the Sony 6000 series which has been an incredible popular camera line for them. It doesn’t make sense that Nikon hasn’t competed with that camera line. Regards Gerry
Well these 2 lenses are not bad but they look very poor even the SE versions. I don t understand why Nikon at least on the SE version didn’t build them in metal, put a metal bâtonnet and didn t add a diaph ring. This should have made a beautiful combo. And it was possible : Viltrox did it with its 35mm f 1.8. So on my side I resold the 2 SE plastic version and bought the Viltrox 35mm.
I had a craving today to see Becky & Kon so I watched several of their review videos, including this one. I've had both of these lenses since they were first available. I've used them on Z 6II, Z7 II, and now on my Z f and Z 8 cameras. I am always pleased with the images I get with them!
the iso dial works as a high cap in auto iso..
I watch from Lynchburg in Virginia (US). Thank you and Becky for all you offer!
Tilly!
I used my 10mm to 20mm to take boat show photos a few weeks ago on a Nikon D5300 and also landscape style which were so clear you saw no blurr or edges that were not perfectly clear! I was so impressed but you need to use the proper settings to get this lens to take them that clear! That isn't what you two did. You used wide open and the most closed on every lens? I still am quite happy with my own choice and know the right settings to get the affect and clarity I want! Each lens has a "sweet spot" that top photographers learn which I have studied under. That area is where you get the most clear images. Each lens is very different in this respect which is why you need to compare them each at their best settings! Apples to Oranges? No each lens is different and can't really be compared equally with the same settings. Wide open and most closed is not what I use in my own photography unless I do night shots. Which came out amazing with a 35mm on the Sony A73 wide open. I actually took some shots wide open with a 10mm to 20mm and set it up with the other settings, still got sharp images edge to edge!
Not mentioned here is how familiar you both are (or not) shooting manual focus. Working manual focusis like getting used to the clutch on a manual car - eventually you hardly notice. Obviously the usual caveats apply about what you intend to do.
Very familiar!
Thanks, great video!
Oh. I was so sure it stood for TeeTotal.😊
Your camera with blue leather is so cute !!!
Typo on the title "2.8"
Nice review of another character lens. It is truly great to see the 3rd party manufacturers stepping up the game to bring more choices for people. Great to see to both! But the highlight of my day was seeing Tilley! Have a great week the both of you! ☕️📷
Pity its a crop lens ... 🦘
D850 is the king of DSLRs no doubt, but even for landscapes, Z8 beats it because you can get sharper images, not only that, stabilization and the 3 way tilting screen on Z8 alone makes it far superior to D850
Amazing ! 🤓
Blue Zf! thats the most beautiful, I own that one too 😍
Becky!!!!
I want to go to the store and touch EVERYTHING!!!🥰
Not for me but good to see a DX lens
Thanks for the review ☺️
Please give me the like of my great friends ....am in need of go pro camera 10 or 9 can someone sponsor me please
I’m on the cusp of going from a Z8 from a D750. My D750 has the same program modes (you can even create a button shortcut to rotate to the correct old school lens on the camera). If my 750 can know the aperture as I adjust the aperture manually, why can’t new Nikon mirrorless? I just double checked with the same 50 f/2 nikkor-h, as well as my 85 f/1.4 ai-s, and the 80-200 f/4.5 nikkor-c. All display on the screen the correct aperture when I change the aperture and of course save the data to see in LR. This is a bummer for the Z line of bodies. I was already bummed about losing AF on some of my older lenses. Would have been nice if Nikon made a more expensive lens adapter option that had an internal battery that could operate a screw drive and retain aperture information
Red Code Raw on the Z6iii, and OTA for Z8 (8k60p) and Z9
I heard they were coming out with a 75mm, any word on that one?
Bill, watching from Prescott, Arizona USA, waiting to purchase my first mirrorless Z series camera. I have 50+ years shooting film & digital Recently sold my D7200 system, torn between Z6II & Z7 II. I currently photo events and landscape. Going to wait until June to see if the ZIII series is going to be released.
nikon has had virtaly reality for a few years . to use it just move the VR AF/MF switch on the lens .
Hi Kon, great stream watching from Australia.
I dont think Nikon needs a higher mpx camera. There is a gap for one flagship fast camera with only a 20-24mpx sensor. Z line is boring with all those spaces consuming 45 mpx Z8 and Z9. Im jealous of Canon users for having the option to buy R3 or even new R1. Who wants 20fps with 45mpx. Is ridiculous.
Nikon Z6III should have everything from Z8 except for 8k and 45mp sensor.
so expensive too hahahah
Durability
Kon, I was unable to attend yesterday. Had a client commitment. I will be on the livestream next week. Hope you’re enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend! 📸
Thank you, much appreciated 🙏🏼
As a home barista I love the coffee and camera talk.
I currently have a ZF but no lens yet. I’ve been away from photography for a while (apart from iPhone) and have the 50mm f1 on order. It will be my only lens for a time. I really wanted the classic 50mm experience but I’m torn about getting two of the other Voigtlander lenses for the same price (35/50). Do you think I should go with the f1 and embrace the limitations of that one lens setup? Just not sure… I’ll be shooting around the city and love architecture so I know the 50mm isn’t the obvious choice.
Why not the 40mm?
@@katyc24the 40 was also tempting! I think the character of the 50 f1 is what’s keeping me with option at the minute
Trevor from Northamptonshire. A new customer to Grays (bought a Zf) so I keep forgetting about this weekly broadcast. Glad you record it!
