This was good to see now that I’m considering (for price reasons only) the Nokton 50mm/f1.2. Did you get a great deal on the Voigtländer 50mm/f1.2 or were you referring to the Leica 50mm Summilux? If the Leica, do you really have any thoughts on the result quality & issues focusing using the rangefinder? Lastly, do you have a written review or KZread review for thoughts on using this with the Leica M Monochrom Typ 246? Your insight would be greatly appreciated! Making a purchase decision by tomorrow!

Thanks for watching. I was referring to the 50 Summilux that I got a good deal on. The Nokton is usually about the same no matter where you get it from unless you get it second hand. The 50 Lux is a fantastic lens. To be honest I regret letting it go. The Nokton 50 1.2 is also a fantastic lens but the Lux is a bit more special if you know what I mean. Image quality though most wont see the difference. Focusing with a range finder takes practice. If this is your first, it might be frustrating at first as it takes time to get down but you will find your photography grow once you nail it. Leica Monochrom 246 is a fantastic camera. The monochrom sensor is really something. Images are sharp, tons of detail and if you love B&W photography you will love it.

Hi Jakub thanks for watching. The Vintage line is nice and we are seeing some good lenses as of late coming from Voigtländer. As for the half case, it’s from Luigi’s Cases.

Ahh the S1R with the Nokton might be a impressive combo. Let me see what I can do to make that happen :)

Thanks for this video on these two lenses from Voigtlander! There's not much out there on the 35/f2 Ultron. I now photograph using a Nikon Z6, which has been directly responsible for me pulling out all my old Nikkors and shooting old school style. I then began adapting several wonderful Voigtlander lenses to the Z using a 7 Artisans adaptor. While they really don't compare to Z series Nikkors in terms of sharpness, distortion, contrast etc, the Voigts cast a beautiful character across the image that I adore. Sure, it is great to have the optically perfect lens, but when I want to have real fun shooting it is with these teeny little Voigtlanders. At this point the act of shooting becomes like a sport to me. I am so pleased that Voigtlander is out there making these affordable, beautifully made, characterful, manual lenses. At a time where there is so much obsession over technical (sometimes sterile) perfection and automation, these Voigtlanders bring something tactile back to the experience. I hope Cosina, or whoever it is in the future, keep the Voigtlander dream alive. I have the 35 f2 now on order, and am looking very much forward to mounting it to my Nikon and heading out!

Yes Cosina (Voigtlander) has been on a roll as of late with some great quality lenses that have great character but also rendering that’s modern enough for the newer mirrorless cameras. Try the 50 1.2 when you get a chance and the 75 1.5. Also very impressive

I would recommend the 35 1.7 or 35 f2. For the Ultron I reviewed in this video the focusing is easy, Lens is small and compact and designed really for street photography in my opinion. The 35 1.4 I’ve heard mixed reviews especially sharpness when wide open.

@@TECH360TV thanks for your reply :) I currently have Nokton 1.2 for 'painting' with bokeh but need something really small for street. I am not sure about 35 f/1.7 and its finder blockage as this is main reason why I take into account f/2 and f/1.4 lenses.

Cinestill 800 is just such a great film! I'm personally using 120 CST800 with Rolleicord VB :D. Greetings from Germany!

Very watchable and enjoyable. I have the 50mm 1.2. I agree regarding the ND filter. I will check out Camera Assembly, although I don't have Facebook or Instagram. I'd like longer opinions regarding the two lenses, at the end, would be nice. But hopefully you get 10,000 subscribers soon. Followed by 100,000.I would highlight locations more too, the travel aspect would draw in viewers too.

If you want to stick purely to Leica 35 SL Summicron. If you want to venture into other lens makers Sigma 65 f2. Voigtlander has the 50 APO manual lens which is fantastic as well

Great review. I own both of these lenses and they are terrific. The 50/1.2 is every bit as good as the current Summilux, just with slightly different strengths (another 1/2 stop) and weaknesses (a bit softer at close focus). The 35 Ultron, however, is vastly better than the current Leica 35 Summicron (non-APO). It is sharper, more flare resistant, less distortion (and it’s desirable barrel, rather than ugly pincushion), plus it’s smaller, lighter and blocks less of the viewfinder.

it's funny I have exactly the same body! the Leica MP and the summicron 35mm and today I was going to see in town (Brussels) to buy the 50mm Voigtlander but the f1.5 in chrome version! :-) because I did not know that there was a 1.2 !! what's the little piece on your viewfinder? is it a corrector? because you wear glasses? I wear glasses too! "-1" but I wear my glasses to shoot! and drive my car, that means with the adaptor on your viewfinder you don't need your glasses? I shoot digital for my job but for personal use, I use my Leica MP! already the object is magnificent! it's like a nice classic car or a nice watch Anyway, great review & nice camera!!! :-) Thanks!

Hi David thanks for watching, much appreciated. Yes the 1.2 is very good lens, if you haven’t picked up the 1.5 check it out. As for the little piece on the viewfinder, that’s a 1.4X magnifier from Leica. It has a slight correction to it but the magnification makes focusing a lot easier especially on very fast lenses. The MP is beautiful. Don’t think I’ll ever let it go :)

As a special request it would be great if you could compare the just released Voigtlander 50 f1.5 ii against your trusty 50 f1.2, I can only buy one, I’ve been waiting for the f1.5 mk2 but I’m torn in terms as to which one is best for my SL

@@TECH360TV Fantastic, I’m looking forward to seeing what you make of it. Right now I’m crestfallen, just received a Voigtlander 21mm f1.8 which is Stella except for some reason it won’t infinity focus wide open.... gutted, I wanted an all rounder super wide that could do Astro at a push. Hmmm have to try another copy. Just testing it indoors though and it was amazing, sharp, sunstars, even bokeh to die for. Oh hum hopefully I’ll get a better copy next time.

What about the Ultron 35mm f1.7 ? Price differential does not seem that great and it comes in chrome.

Haven’t tested the 1.7 but I’ve had users who have tried both like the sharpness of the 1.7.

i shot a lot of cinestill 800 and rarely it turns out this grainy... how is that? those speeds 1/250, that is just wrong, give film more light...

I believe this due in part from the adding them to video and making sure they are bright enough for viewers to see. As for 1/250 I was going by the light meter inside the camera.

This video is pure gold. I love it. Your set up is a superb dream 😍. I have a question, do you have the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm 1.2? I’m not sure what to choose, if the f 1.2 Nokton or the f2 vintage Ultron. For now, I’m using the Leica M10. Many thanks.

I've got the 21mm 1.4 Nokton and 50mm 1,2 Nokton e mount. The 21mm is probably the most fun. They're both great lenses. Manual seems more natural for guys like me that have more experience with film SLRs than digital. You should shoot b&w and set up a darkroom if you love shooting with film. I'm surprised that more film shooting KZreadrs don't develop film themselves. It's a great hands-on experience!

U did a good pictures of 50mm.f1.2 for streets >>awesom >> never has anybody done it before and its probably one of the best 50"s thumb uppp

Thanks for watching 😊 Personally I like the bokeh on the 50 1.2 more than the Lux 1.4, but I like the sharpness the Leica has over the Voigtlander wide open. Is the Leica worth thousands more? Hard to say, but Voigtlander came out with a very competent lens.

Fun review! However, maybe you could have shot slide film during the day as well to judge the sharpness a little better

Je viens d'acheter le Nokton 1.2/50mm, je le trouve vraiment mou aux grandes ouvertures par rapport au 1.5/75mm.

Canon FD 55mm F1.2 also has chrome ring in front

Some variants do, but those lenses were designed for Canon cameras, not Leica.

I always thought _Nokton_ was pronounced like 'Decepticon' not like 'ton' as in the unit of weight measurement

Yeah, Leica MP. Or M6, it doesn't matter so much. I had the M6, have an MP now, would switch back any time (I wanted a 0.85 viewfinder and got it with an MP; one day I have to revert back to the normal magnification and will most likely go M6 again for monetary reasons). Good to know about the new 2/35 from Voigtländer, I will give it a look. And I should team up my old (!) Summilux 35 with the CineStill 800 (have at least one roll lying around somewhere ;-)). A good, rather non-technical review.

I was between the M6 and MP and went with the MP. It’s considerably more expensive but I found the build quality and feel more to my liking. 35 Lux with cinestill is a great combo. Enjoy

Also because of the brass.

If someone makes like a small ring black cover that fits onto the chrome bezel of the lens and hides it so everything is stealthy black. I think if this was silver, that would be ok.

I'm on my way to the Summilux 50/1.4. My Voigtländer Nokton 50/1.2 isn't that good and shooting with a ND-filter changes colors. It's for sale again. I've a Zeiss 50/1.5 which comes closer to the Summilux. I own three other Voitländer lenses: 21/1.8, 75/1.8 and 40/1.4.

Understand. Some users still prefer the Summilux 50 which is a great lens.

The chrome nose is pretty vintage actually being adopted by Zeiss, Nikon and Canon like back in the 70’s I think.

Actually my review came out before theirs if I’m not mistaken. I was passed the lens 35 f2 for approx two weeks to review. It was given back after we filmed this and to this day I do not own the lens. The only lens I own is the one I stated in the video which is the 50 1.2. This lens was purchased months before this review and btw I paid full retail price. I can’t speak for others but this is our situation.

@@AIP404 Very negligible if you shoot in RAW. The only real case is they use a different sensor but even then it's just colors that you can change in Lightroom. Also, all recent cameras have pretty much Sony sensors and dynamic range.

coolbuddydude1 different sensors and different processors. While it’s true Many camera companies use Sony Sensors, not every sensor is equal. In regards to processors, the Maestro II processor also is part of the leica color science. Yes other cameras might hav s different dynamic range, but for some leica images need less editing than others.

TECH360.TV saying something is “really nice” over and over again isn’t a review. Also the photos were really bad and obviously developed incorrectly.

As I have some Voigtlander lenses your review of the performance with a film camera ( of which I still have some) was, and I emphasise WAS, of immediate interest when I found it. However, it was unwatchable ruined by the insufferably inappropriate dim-wit noise, served up as musical (if it can legitimately be called musical) backing. My instincts suggest that the Voigtlander/ Zeiss / Leica demographic is largely consistent of guys with a more measured approach to life than that of the fever- pitch million miles an hour apes on speed to whom that hideous noise is an essential to existence.. I had hoped for information and inspiration, and ended with neither as the unendurable sound track made it a total waste of time. Switched off, and an emphatic thumbs down..

Ugh. Those pictures are hideous, the grain, the garishness, the acres of black detailess void. What a waste of a great lens, that 50mm. Film, fixies, vinyl - they are all just zombie tech staggering around our world, replaced by far superior tech. Be gone, already! And take the internal combustion engine with you.
