RIP Herb. Herb thank you so much for my job at Southwest Airlines. I was hired October 6, 2006 as a ramp agent in Baltimore Maryland. I was able to serve in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years and now currently still with Southwest Airlines as a ramp agent in Tampa Florida and will retire from Southwest when that time comes. I wish I could have met you but honestly I didnt have to because I met you through all the co-hearts. You will forever be missed.

I'm a former airline employee (not with Southwest), but always admired and respected Herb Kelleher and the company he strove to create with such great success. I had an occasion or two to hear him speak (as a guest of a friend of mine who was a Southwest employee) during a motivational event for employees in a particular locale and he was just as congenial, forthright and honest as what this video portrays. God bless his family and his memory. RIP, Herb Kelleher.

If ever a company exemplified the best in people everywhere, it is Southwest. I would never even consider another airline.

RIP Dear Herb. I can't thank you enough for the opportunities you created, not only for me, but for all of Employees at Southwest Airlines - the greatest airline in the world! I had the honor to meet you several times & WOW! - your spirit, energy & love of everyone at Southwest was simply amazing and incomparable! One last thought. This statement is so true - "Herb is the only airline CEO in history that was a Rock Star to his employees - the employees of Southwest Airlines!" My thoughts and prayers are with Herb's family & close friends. God speed Herb, until we meet again.

As someone who worked in the airline industry for seven years in the '90s - though not for Southwest - I can certainly vouch for much of what you say about Herbie the Love Bug and the loyalty he inspired. In an industry dominated by the likes of Robert Crandall, Frank Lorenzo, Gordon Bethune, Carl Icahn, Richard Ferris among others, Herb was without a doubt the most most popular among his employees. As proof of that, I believe that throughout his tenure as Southwest CEO, the airline only had one strike.

Herb and his airline have made it possible for me to do a lot over the years. Made it possible to fly to Denver and spend time with my great-grandfather. And then be able to attend his funeral at Arlington National. Surprise my mother for her birthday and my sister for her Senior Night and Graduation. They make it possible for me to have breakfast and work at my home in Atlanta, lunch with my great-grandmother in Miami, dinner with my parents in Orlando, and back home and in bed at a normal time. You were always a business idol of mine and the Lone Star of Texas is a little dimmer today because of your passing; not to mention the impact this will have on Wild Turkey sales. Here is to you Herb 🥃

Many people like to point out that one of the benefits that emerged from the deregulation of the airline industry is that fares are so much lower now than they were before. While deregulation made this possible, if it weren't for Southwest Airlines, fares would not be so low on average as they are today. The low fares found in most markets today are because of Southwest. Whenever Southwest flies a route, the result is that fares for that route always decrease. For example, When Southwest started flying from St. Louis to Kansas City, which only the old TWA used to service, the lowest one-way fare decreased from $250 to $49 (though a round-trip fare was lower). In 1992, when American Airlines introduced its Value Pricing campaign designed to reduce the number of fares in each market, which lowered standard coach and first-class fares but increased many discount fares, every other major airline copied American's fares for a time - except Southwest whose fares were still lower and on routes that Southwest flew, none of the other airlines applied value pricing. So next time you all fly from Oakland to Los Angeles for $59 or from Cincinnati to Chicago for $69 (and not necessarily with Southwest but any airline that flies these routes), thank Herb Kelleher and the good folks at Southwest who have made low fares a staple in the industry.

So heartbreaking to see SWA becoming just another airline now. I'm starting to look at Spirit so I don't have to change planes almost everywhere I go. SWA has lost the Herb K. spirit.

After Herb’s legacy with good employee relations and everyone taking responsibility but getting rewarded, it’s a disgrace both pilots and flight attendants have been in federal mediation for a year to settle their contracts.
