I agree, I don't know why I first heard a Leona Lewis type sound. The high notes towards the end sound like Ariana 100% though.
I love her tone here! This sounds like a woman singing instead of a young girl. I love the more mature sound of her voice. Absolutely beautiful!!

She didn't get married the day before this, she just posted her wedding pics right before this performance. I'm not sure when she got married, maybe a week or two before the performance. Idk. There were rumors like a week or two before she actually confirmed it by posting the pictures so idk.

the live performance was actually pre-recorded and ari got married on the 15th of may, if you notice on her wedding photos her arm tattoos were covered with make up and in this performance her tattoos are still covered so it's possible she performed this literally before or after her wedding (others also speculated that you can see her wedding band with her engagement ring in the performance but it's not that visible if there really is a wedding ring)

He sings a lot more classically than I would’ve expected when he’s live, at least in the beginning before moving to higher notes. Also he has one of the best exclamation “yah/ah/woo’s” IMO, so soft yet crisp

in the original remix ariana says the “i don’t know why i run away” and it goes right before the whistle but in this performance abel took that part so that ariana didn’t have to come back in until the whistle (like you said, it would be hard to go to the whistle from a low run)
Abel and Ariana were singing like the rent was due. I was so amazed by their vocals🤩
I SO prefer this ari.....it’s so much prettier imo. Gorgeous.
She moves her jaw fluidly because she is probably so relaxed and because she can. Or maybe moving her jaw is what keeps her relaxed. Regardless, she is on another level.

I love when Sam demonstrates the techniques with his own voice! I forget his singing voice is lovely
I love when people become famous early on because you can listen to the changes in their voice over the years. I was blown away by Ari from the first song (thought she was Mariah at first!) and couldn't wait to hear what she would sound like later. Such a great artist. 👍 Thanks, Sam, for another great video!

ahh that part about having joy in the act of singing itself!!!!!!! yes!!!!!
I recognised first Ariana’s jaw drop in her “no tears left to cry” music video and I thought that might be my key for me to understand how to sing “A” and “O” it didn’t quite work for me but I’m curious to experiment. To be frankly I think “A” and “O” are the hardest vocals to sing although they seem like the easiest lol
7:04 that was so adorable, the reaction 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭
Gotta give it up to the audience 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 They were feeling the song, vibing along, and their reactions really hit me hard 🥺
One of the best performances in 2021

Im from Chile and i’ve seen her two times live and SHE IS AMAZING !!!!! like your review ! very complete and informative ! 👍🏻
Besides the great singing, what I also really love about this performance is how they interact witch each other. Like, they're really performing this together, emphasis on "together", it's just so open, natural and very authentic. Both are having a great time and that makes it sound so much better to me. I don't listen to Ariana Grande at all and don't know, what else she's doing but the deeper parts are fantastic, so rich and full, still loud but not unpleasant or forced in any way.
it's great to see the analysis from a vocal coach. There are definitely a lot of subtlety that we as audience don't appreciate that go a lot into a great performance!
Hi Sam, could you please react to Go_A "Shum" from the Eurovision song contest? The singer uses some old slavic singing technique and it is really cool!
I love what you said about needing to feel joy to really succeed at something! I can't sing for shit but I've recently started drawing and painting again and I do want to someday make a career out of it. so even though right now I'm constantly seeing people be infinitely better at art than I am that just pushes me to practice more because I genuinely love creating art :)
The massive smile on your face says it all She’s awesome

Could you do something Eurovision, please? There were some great vocals this year! I'm pretty sure Gjon's Tears “Tout l'univers“ should be the most interesting for you as a vocal coach, because his falsetto is just so damn good and the transitions between head and chest voice are insane. It's a very technical song. Barbara Pavri - voilà (french chanson), Destiny - Je ne Casse, Ana Soklic - amen, Eden Alene - Set me Free (Whistle notes!) and of course the winner Måneskin - Zitti e buoni (glam rock) are all worth a reaction.😁
They both harmonize so beautifully together. Beautiful voices. They should do more music together ❤
