It's interesting to see comments similar to yours over and over again in the comments section. Hua's current journey of musical experimentation and exploring what's possible for 21st century Mandopop draws a lot of inspiration from the forefront of American music back in the day (70s to early 90s). Kinda weird to see the USA, of all places, becoming somewhat stagnant these days, musically speaking.

This song gets me everytime, or to be more precise, this version gets me everytime. It is haunting, enchanting, so full of sorrow and loneliness, and pain. It's heart wrenching, but yet so imencely butifull. It is musical art. It has a strong message, it shows us depression by purring it to music. When I first listened to it for the first time I was totaly stunned, I have a bipolar disorder, since for forever, I have always known depression. And here he made the feeling real to anyone to feel, I was totaly in awe, still am. He is so unique, it's not only about the music, its about what he wants with his music, and it is About him, be is using himself, being open about his troubles, and he is such a good example for all of us. He is my therapist nr1. As mentioned in the interview, he has rearanged this songs many times. His version from the superboy competition om 2013, is closer to the original, but still his own. It is very good. But this version, it is a gem.

I love your reactions. They are so earnest and obviously deeply felt. It's interesting that the time this came up is after you got to react to the first song of his new trilogy. You can hear him echoing the same sentiments in his conversation with the crowd that he discussed in his pre-stage interview on Singer. As you aptly noted, Hua Hua is sharing something very meaningful with the audience about caring for others, and allowing them to see a little bit of the pain that they may have no experience with. He took it even further, as you saw and commented on, in his talk with Martians before performing at his Mars concert. Only with some background and understanding can well-meaning folks who have not experienced depression get clues on how to care for loved ones in a way that will not cause more pain. I just love Hua Hua for this. I get choked up every time I watch this performance, and have literally cried with each listen to "I really want to love this world," as I hear Hua Hua's lyrics shine a light on some very dark places that I can related to. Thank you for your great reactions!

Yes, this was pure art. It was an amazing performance and considering it came from a very painful place in his past, it is really amazing he shared this with everyone. The decent into madness is so painful if you consider that it was coming from the viewpoint of a child. It is his ability to share the pain of his past and take the audience on that journey with him that makes him standout from other artists. He is truly one of a kind and should be valued by anyone who has heard him perform.

This is masterpiece. It contains so many complex elements. Totally different from the original. The original owner also sincerely praised Hua's rearrangement. The message is extremely strong. Hua Hua really sang with his soul. He seemed to be integrated with the song. Playing piano, acting, singing all together is very difficult but he did it beyond perfectly. Speechless ! I'm glad that you watched the pre-interview before for a better understanding of Hua Hua's background and of his version of this song, I appreciate that you saw this performance as art, it is indeed. I think it's always better to watch it only after having watched several other Hua Hua's performances and gotten to know and love him, as his Fake Monk can be such a disturbing performance for so many, not everybody can take it the way you did.

And to answer your question, Hua Chenyu is speaking Mandarin Chinese both in "Fake Monk" and "I Am Who I Am". Actually, both dialects are worth learning as they're quite similar, but I personally prefer Cantonese songs and some classics do have such well written lyrics which I don't see a lot in recent Mandarin Chinese songs.

Leave them before they have a chance to leave you. It's good that you watched the interview first. These are things that those of us who are long-time fans have always known. Andy, I love your reactions as they are similar to mine the first time I heard Hua but it was I DON’T CARE. (I loved the rock and how he was conducting the audience, Martians as we are called) I am older and he IS a performance Artist, classically trained in Piano and voice but make all the songs his “own”. It does not really matter if they are in order. The Super Boy version of Fake Monk is Rock! Also, he has worked on his vocals and he can hold a power note as long or longer than Dimash. His 2013 version of Dad is needed to really appreciate the version he does in 2018. He is always striving to improve and again like Dimash has a heart big enough for the world and gives his heart & soul to his performances. In 2014 he wrote a movie short and a song and album called Quasimodo’s Gift and his 11-16-19 Mars Concert version he added strings and he stands like Quasimodo. His performance Art is like Kate Bush, Lori Anderson, Peter Gabriel, and the 23 year old dorky kid with big glasses, won Super Boy and still worked on his singing technique. Sometimes I scream BREATHE!!! He is unique! He is one of a kind and a big heart. He really does care, so much so, that 4 of his 5 new songs are about Depression, different personalities we have, wanting to love this world when it is difficult. Telling his Martians to take care of friends that might have or been depressed. Not the normal topic at Rock Concerts. He will be in The Singer 2020, maybe Ace vs Ace--they have 24 hours to rearrange a so so song. Even Nunchucks is better than Jay Chou, the original composer. The other part of the staging which he helps design for his concerts, are the clothes! Oversized, colorful, fitted, skirts, great but minimal jewelry, we never know what he will wear. Even if it is just fir yourself, the 2014-15 Mars Concerts are so slow in pacing from all the rest but he chats with the Martians and they joke and he wrote THE FOODIE SONG and the etherial GIANT DEER with lights of a Deer moving to I DON’T CARE And the 5 new songs he wrote this year. He is an original.

He is a real one off a kind, I really love him as a singer and as a person. He can make an existing song his own. Like the song Dad i "am home is a true song from the original singer, Hua Hua brings it out in his own way and shines as if he has experienced it. That is only a real artist if you can do this, and just brings it to tears, which are few artists that can do that. It's just because he had a difficult childhood. So I want to ask you to do two songs from hua. The Saddest Song - "Dad, I'm Home" by Chenyu Hua and also like the song (ENG SUB) "Perhaps Love" by Chenyu Hua & Juno. greatings

Please react to Dad I'm Home before venturing into his newer stuff. It is the most heart wrenching song I have heard! Hua does an amazing yet very emotional job!

Us Martians already knew his background (his story from a child), now you know WHY we love him so much, it's not just about his musical genius it's about what it took to get him there and about he himself as a human being.

You are the most respectful and serious person to listen to Huahua's songs in so many reaction videos I have seen. I want to cry when I hear it. The shouting just breaks my soul. You are also the first person I have seen and listened to the fake monk who was very moved. Thank you very much. Although I am not a fan of Huahua, I also like to listen to his songs, especially this one.
