Lara est vraiment unique. j'aime toutes les versions qu'elle a fait de cette chanson mais celle-ci est l'une des plus poignante. Il n'existe même pas de mot pour décrire l'émotion qu'elle produit. Mais bon je ne suis pas fiable car je suis a peu près certaine que je dis ça pour chaque chanson. Exceptionnelle, une des plus belle voix du monde.

This is why I still prefer Lara's version of Adagio to Dimash's version. I am a faithful Dimash dear but, there are some things even Dimash can't replace, for me. This was a beautiful reaction. Thank you, Lauren.

I agree, Dimash is a technical UFO but I think he could improve in the interpretation department, sometimes it feels inauthentic. Lara embodies her songs, she becomes whatever she sings.

Yeah dimash definitely sings the song but generally that’s as far as it goes, he doesn’t convey nor emote the song, it’s more about showing what high notes he can hit. Much prefer Lara’s performance

Warning or not... It would make you cry. I've watched this a thousand times and yet every single time, this version makes me cry.

The unbelievable thing is that there are other live performances of this song by Lara on KZread and none of them are the same, each one is unique.

I grew up with Lara and her art. And im only 34 😊. Its so wierd... she is such an world class performer and always been but we never saw her at huge shows. Plus she changed this song into much better. Recitative at the front and a capella at the back. Wouv. She still gaining depth as singer. 😊

I'm so glad that you reacted to this particular version of this amazing song. I had known the "From Lara With Love" rendition for more than a decade (and this is the version most other KZread singing coaches react to), but I only found this version quite recently and it absofreakinglutely blew me away. I sat here speechless for several minutes. I've watched this version a few dozen times and I still cry more often than not. Such raw emotion. I wish I had a time machine so that I could transport myself over and over again to that first time I watched it.. or better yet, to the concert itself so I could have witnessed this first-hand.

I just adore her (her art and personality). She is my all time favorite. I saw her live and cried like a baby 99% of the time and I am not very emotional person. I will see her again on tour this year. Thanks for reacting to her. "Caruso" is soul haunting as well as Adagio but Italian version which is original (I love english one but italian IS italian).

Since Lara and Dimash have sang Igor Krutoy's songs there has been talk of a possible duet performance with them. It is possible that Igor's 65th birthday concert in New York in October that Dimash is going to attend might just be the time that they finally sing together and I wish I could attend just for the chance of experiencing that. As another woman, I was wishing I understood what the words were but like most women just watching you cry made me cry plus the fact that her voice is wonderful had me crying too. Above all, what is most striking about this performance is the lyrics of the song itself. It is, simply, brutally honestly written. No fucking about with "romance." Just viscerally straightforward. There is always the difficult trick of translation - sometimes, a translation is woefully lacking, sometimes it captures just right the essence of the original intent, sometimes it even improves upon the original - and, here, regardless of where on that spectrum this particular translation lies, it punches you deeply in the gut, over and over. As to Lara's performance, there's no question that it is such that one would be hard-pressed to imagine anyone else doing it any more compellingly. That said, there's something to be said for something that has become so polished as to become a "routine" as opposed to "genuine," "in the moment," "spontaneous," etc. Lara has performed this song seemingly countless times, many of those plastered throughout the net. The imploring at the audience sans mic is not exclusive to this performance. It is powerful as fuck, yes; nevertheless, it is "routine." As with any performer, one learns what works and what doesn't. Lara has learned this works, so, to optimize the impact of the performance, she uses it. Only makes sense; yet, it's still hard to escape the sense of "artificiality" of the "routine." Same with the speaking of the lyrics at the beginning. (You even started crying at this stage, before Lara was even close to singing. At that point, it obviously wasn't yet because of the brilliance of her singing performance - though, she soon enough got there - that you were so deeply touched; it was because of the visceral lyrics.) Like with the mic-less lamentation, this is something that she does in some performances, for effect. Again, understood that "effect" is necessary, works, and, in the end, the audience benefits because it is after all the utilization of the best tools of the artist; nevertheless, again, there is that feeling of something having become a "routine," just a tool to be used to achieve an effect. Anyway, with all rectal telephone poles extracted, just this performance taken entirely on its own, hard to call it anything other than brilliant. Thanks for your reaction, Lauren.

But this one is so theatrical it's fun to see a reaction to it just for something different. Btw, I was looking for one of the Mademoiselle Zhivago concert videos and it looks like KZread has blocked all but one. I'm so bummed out.

@Ana Martins I've seen videos disappear and leave a "video deleted" in the space, it's not that, they still show up in my saved list. When I click on it, it tries to go to the page but then says "video not available". And there were several full versions that have been online for years, with millions of views and tons of comments, and now they're all gone. The only one still up is one where the person added 20 minutes of edited Lara videos of other songs. I guess that fooled the system, so yay for that at least.

This is Lara! She is simply the best singer when it comes to conveying emotions straight to our hearts. You may check a more "conventional" version of this music just to check how amazing her voice. I love any version, by the way. There is another song that you will love. "Je t'aime" of which, just like this one, there is a special level version, she sang in 2002...! For some reason, Dimash looks up to Lara!

What is it with all of these voice teachers who have never heard Lara? I always thought she was known as one of the best singers in the world? Not to mention all of the beautiful songs she has written.

I can see it a little bitas they both come with this background of french chanson and therefore a certain style (listen to an old live version of Céline singing "Le Blues d'un businessman" or "Quand on n'a que l'amour" and I think you'll understand what I mean)

Your reaction made ME cry, too! I've been following Lara Fabian since I first heard her when I lived in Brussels back in the 90s. She was good then; she has matured since into one of the most powerful and emotive female voices on the planet. Her interpretive skill is pretty much unmatched (I imagine that's one of the reasons Dimash likes her so much). Je Suis Malade is like a piledriver to the heart, isn't it? She has at least 3 different versions of it on KZread and each has its special effect on the listener. You really ought to have a listen to her Adagio. It startles me every time I listen to it: sheer emotion, drama, intense. Here's the version I like: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nH-osNeFd5jQcdI.html. Follow it up with a Dimash "Adagio" chaser from Singer 2017 and you'll cartwheel your emotions right down the street.

@@glenkelley6799 Yes. Dimash goes into certain vocal sequences just as Lara did. But he certainly makes the song his own in his "Dimashy" way! Listening to these two performers in one sitting can be emotionally exhausting but great fun.

@@whatthell Lara's Vocalise has a meaning when you look at her whole movie Mlle Zhivago. Its the song that conects mini stories inside the movie. Dimash's has words and its totally different feel. Lara never practiced agility very much (if ever). Her melismas riffs and runs are rare but when it happens they are on point. LOTS yes Dimash's version is awesome, but I always liked more Lara's original french version (it has nothing to do with Dimash but with the song). With that said all the versions are on my playlist😀 but Adagio is Lara's anthem sooo... I can only hear it from her.

Thanks for the review. What can you say - she is unique on every level. There are singers - and then there is Lara Fabian. This is a good version but totally different than her performance live in 1999 I believe. If you haven't seen that performance - it is a must see! In my book it is the most stunning song I have ever heard.
