Voice Teacher Analyzes / HALLE BAILEY x CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT

I was sick when this first aired, so I’m late to the game, but I wanted to fulfill this request and talk a little about the wonderful Ms. Halle Bailey. SUCH a beautiful voice and performance!

Halle always sounds like a princess. Her voice was made for Disney.

She's so amazing, her voice is naturally sweet and soft. She can change her vocal delivery as well. The way she shapes her words, works wonders. High notes also. She's the new Ariel for sure. And she has accomplished so much and she's only gonna get further with just her talent alone.

She reminds of very fine and delicate crystal. If, you tap it the sound has a clear and high resonance. I'm excited to see where she goes next.

this is allll my opinion btw so feel free to disagree respectfully: her and chloe’s tones and vocal stylings are so similar, but i think the difference is the way their voices developed. sonically, and stylistically, they took after each other + beyoncé with their ethereal tonal qualities, pronounced and controlled vibrato, attention to dynamics, etc. however, as a fan of them both since childhood, i noticed that chloe used to sing in her chest voice a lot while halle stayed in her head voice, until they got older and learned how to blend the two. chloe built her voice from the ground up, starting with her comfort being in chest, and developed her head voice as a separate entity and then learned how to make the two work together as she got older. i think this is why her “sweet spot” lies at the upper extreme of her chest voice, and her voice kind of becomes smaller and more delicate which she enters into her head voice until it eventually blossoms as she ascends… similar to her chest voice. halle on the other hand, developed her voice from the top down, which is why, unlike chloe, she seems to have a little less comfort using pure chest voice (even when she belts, she seems to have a lighter, headier approach). her sweet spot actually lies in her passagio and everything above it, whereas with chloe this area of her voice is less powerful. i also think this made her registers sound a little bit more connected, i think with her there isnt much of a drastic shift between her chest and head voice because of the way it developed. another singer who i believe trained their voice this way is amber riley… u cant really tell when she’s “mixing” or just using her pure head voice i hope this makes sense lol.

i also think they both recognize this about their voices, which is why when they harmonize during the climactic parts of their songs, oftentimes chloe will give a good meaty midbelt or upper belt, whereas halle will either “mix” or go straight to head voice while using the same vowel, and they match each other power and volume wise, and it blends very well

This feels like the most accurate description of their voices! Halle’s head voice (I use that term loosely lol) and mix are almost unmatched in todays pop music. I’ve never heard anything like it before. They both have such control and dexterity when they move throughout their registers. Specifically, Halle in this case. Halle’s breaks are so smooth and almost unnoticeable when she’s switching between mix and pure head voice/falsetto. I’ve always wondered were she and her sister trained with classical techniques. they excel in those tones and incorporate them so well into their music. Also, you’re right about Amber Riley. She herself stated, prior to Glee, she never considered herself a “belter”. I noticed she sings from the top down and it makes a beautiful mix, allowing her to mix a soprano high C. (Jump - glee version) 😊

Not to compare the two, but I think Chloe naturally started as a better vocalist, a stronger voice with greater styling opposed to halle whose tone is beautiful but doesn’t have much unhealthy stylistic choices (Chloe consistently sings breathy and lowers her larynx.) I think because of this, at the age of 22, halle has a bit more of a stronger voice with ease from the bottom to the top. I am really curious to hear both Chloe and halle handle full upper belts (d5-g5 for halle, b4-e5 for Chloe). Halle typically uses headvoice in these spots but I wonder if she’s comfortable with a full belt in this, as for Chloe, I would love to hear her with these belts. She’s 24 now so I think she should showcase some of that belting
