For me, using a voice-over in the Polish language version was a brilliant move because while playing Stalker I had the impression that I was bordering on a para-documentary. let's add to this the objects in the game, buildings, cars, gloomy atmosphere - all this sent shivers down my spine. Mirosław Utta turned up the immersion even more. this game and I wouldn't mind if Stalker 2 also had this voice-over.

People who trash Polish lektor omit one important thing: in this type of translation you don't have limitations of following lip movement. Thus you can rewrite dialogues from the ground with near complete freedom, add your artistic spin, while keeping natural flow and vocabulary of your native language. If you're used to this type of voice over, you feel more like hearing narrator of original Roadside Picnic novel, than campy straight-to-DVD action film (that's my impression of English version sadly). Apart from that, this low budget dubbing is associated in Polish pop-culture with mid 80s-late 90s transformation days, when VHS movie market was at its peak (as much as the crime scene). Utilizing such "dated" voice-over added extra layer to already bleak atmosphere in the game, making it at times feel like it was released not that long after actual Chernobyl disaster.

The Redditor in question said it was according to the page, but didn't say which page nor provided any links. But I trust my ears and I believe them, since not just the overall tone is similar, but the treble and infection of the voice during long vocals are almost identical. Considering the fact that Ukraine is under invasion, and that many members of the original development team are either out of means to work or simply dead on the trenches, this conversation we're having feels like living archaeology, which is equally fascinating and creepy, just like the STALKER games themselves and the CNPP's real life exclusion zone...
