From memory Michael undertook classical training before recording the album 'My Secret Passion'. Unfortunately i don't think the album was that well received... but it certainly surprised me. I have it in my collection ..... Michael's not just a 'pop' singer....very talented guy.

Isn't it wonderful how some singers can be so beautifully versatile? Next to Dimash, my favorite is Avi Kaplan. Avi was classically trained and had just received his invitation to the principal Basso Profundo for the Los Angeles Opera House at age 22. The next day, a teenager called him looking for a Bass for a forming group wanting to try out for NBC's A Capella Sing Off. Avi laid down the opera house papers and headed to meet the group. Two days later, they were on stage in Las Angeles and for weeks they continued to win out over other contestants and eventually were the grand Champions. In the 6 Years Avi was with the group, they won 3 Grammy's. Avi left the group after 6 years and is now a solo artist (singer and songwriter.) He is not interested in writing or singing opera, rather he is more into writing and singing Folk, Americana Folk, and some Western. His goal it to bring light to others. Avi is also the founder of a youth choir titled A Capella Academy and he and two of his friends meet young people from all over the world to get to know the applicants and listen to them sing. They then chose the cream of the crop, and because some of the youth are very poor, Avi puts on a livestream concert where he takes requests from donators to bring those who cannot afford it to be able to be there each summer for 9 days. I love the entire album "My Secret Passion." Bolton released an album of opera arias in 1998 entitled "My Secret Passion" and included some of the most famous arias; everything from "Nessun Dorma," "Celeste Aida," to "Vesti la giubba." It is well worth listening to. He did exceptionally well for not being an opera singer.

James, thank you for your wonderful message and all the details you point out. There is much astounding talent out there! In the old days, people had to wait to be “discovered” by a talent scout or record label. Now they upload videos which can immediately be seen by the world. It is the young talent in particular that I find fascinating- under 22. How do they do it? It just proves that the human brain has limitless potential.
