How to explain Angelina Jordan? Pitch perfect? Yes! Soft velvet voice? Yes! Brave and powerful voice? Yes! Stunning voice control and surreal phrasing? Yes! Magnificent emotional interpretations? Yes!! Music genius? Yes!! Soft intimate lullabies? Yes! High notes, belt singing? Yes! Amazing low notes? Yes! And so it goes on and on ... But it seems to me that all this is still unable to fully describe and explain this phenomenal singer who is still a beautiful and sweet young teenager. I'm a forever delighted fan and can't wait to see her stardom take the world by storm. It will happen sooner than we think! Cheers! Peace out!

One more comment, she arranges a lot of these. She hears them in head and that's how she wants to do it. She is a born singer. My contention is there are two types of singers, 1, People who can sing, where most of us live on a big continuum. 2, the second those who are born to sing and you can tell almost from the first notes they sing. I know most people don't agree with me, but I'm 68 yrs old not in great health, don't feel bad I deserve it, so I won't be around that much longer, so my opinion is the only one I listen to. I'm just glad I had the chance to hear her.

The ‘instability’ in her voice..her confidence in that studio, the way she interprets the song and the brilliant videography are exactly what add up to making the interpretation of this song the best version ever done!!!! Bar none!!! SHE IS NOT AND NEVER HAS ‘PLAY ACTED’ any song she’s sung!!!! The songs might be adult in nature but Angelina connects with them in ways that transcend her age!!!!! Without question she is an old soul and a true genius!!!!!!!!

Angelina was 9 years old when she did the first. She gives her list of "wishes" to the band lead. It is her arrangement based on "Screaming" Jay Hawkins' original recording (1956). Great idea to get those bits from the older rehearsal as comparison. I loved this reaction, and hope you will continue to explore this talent which is 16 yo now in 2022. We expect an album to drop next year (2023), and it isn't clear if it all will be original music, or if it will also include some covers. In terms of that lower register, you might want to check out her jazz cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Yes, you read that correctly; a jazz cover of "Billie Jean." 💜

One thing I'd add is that she's singing a song in English which isn't her first language - she's from Norway. That has to add to the difficulty. Given that, her diction is excellent. What a special girl!!!

She did this in 2016 when she was 10; in 2013 she was 7 and that's when she won Norway's Got Talent. If you are going to get a sense of how she develops over time, go back to 2013 when she sang Gloomy Sunday which hit the judges of NGT between the ears and became the person to beat in winning the title. Next, go to 2019 on AGT Champions and listen to her sing Bohemian Rhapsody where she designed and sang a great version that no one had heard before. Then you can fill in with 120-140 recordings that she put on the internet.

Christi, I hope you don't mind me posting three comments in a row. I think you are, by far, the best vocal coach on KZread. I love how you dig in to the technical and artistic aspects of the singers you listen to. Being a professional singer yourself just proves your "cred". One thing I am sure you would tell 99% of the young vocalists you coach is to not try to do what Angelina does, especially on "I Put A Spell On You". The growling and "Hey, hey, hey...What's up?" would shred most young singers' vocal cords. Angelina just has an innate use of her diaphragm to give her the breath control she needs to do those things, not to mention her low register. She is a force of nature! Thanks for being an educator and not just a reactor!!

i don't know how i have missed you in the Reaction world .. though i see you've been here over a year.. So great to have you with us on our collective journey with Angelina. I look forward to seeing your other reactions to her amazing talent. And, as you know, there is so much for you to hear and watch! i personally think that understanding what she has loved so deeply since she was tiny (JAZZ) is a worthy trip, watching her auditions for Norways Got Talent when she was 7 years old (8 by the time she won the contest). The are four songs from that show. Her first tells you volumes, (it was she who picked her songs.) She sings GLOOMY SUNDAY (Billie Holliday) and since you teach youngsters, you will be amazed and awed by her relationship to the music and the depth of heart she has when she sings. I was lucky to have heard of her early .. during this contest I speak of .. which made her immediately famous all over Europe .. and then her amazing talent grew to touch people all around the globe. I'm deeply grateful for her fabulous family who are close and very protective of her. I am totally sure you will continue hearing a lot about her from others who follow her devotedly. ❤ I also loved BANG BANG and SUMMERTIME from that show (I forget at this moment the name of the last one, which she does acappella. I hope you look for the videos of that show with translations for understanding the judges etc.. I am very partial to her FEELING GOOD performance when she was 10 (she has a couple of versions of that) as well as IT'S A MAN'S WORLD and to hear her 12-13 year old versions of "A Million Years Ago" and "I Have Nothing" .. but as you know, you have endless choices and one thing for sure .. you 'get her' .. so glad you found her and us and so very glad to have you with us. 🎶

This woman is 100% correct. Just as I've seen piano, violin. guitar prodigies, rarely do you see them making an error, although every musician/singer/whomever screws up on occasion, I did not hear this kid make any pitch errors on hi or lo notes. It would behoove this woman to replay this video and specifically point to when this little kid missed a single note, because I couldn't find any and I've listened to this at least 50-100 times!!

I like your insight that she is "putting on her big girl voice". That is something no one else has said. That must be her frame of mind at this age to go into such a performance. Also I'm not sure what you mean about her instability at low note range. Perhaps an example. Thank you very much for your take on a precious treasure to delight us for years to come.

Over one billion hits on social media worldwide. Her total background story is endlessly fascinating. She has long ago become an inseparable part of my life. There is just something inexplicable, mysterious, beautiful and beguiling in her voice whether she is singing or talking. Everything I have seen or read about her shows her to be unpretentious, grounded, serene and heartbreakingly sweet and beautiful. Her parents have been very vigilante at preserving her childhood and have turned down many recording contracts and offers from studios as large as Disney. She does sing at select public events such as charities and small venues that can be scheduled around her regular school year. She has collaborated with Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson and others and was invited to sing (youngest ever) at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremonies (she covered Louis Armstrong"s "What a Wonderful World"), Harry Belafonte's birthday special, before numerous heads of state, etc. She entered "Norway's Got Talent" at age seven, winning shortly after her 8th birthday. The majority of her cash prize she donated to children's charities. During various stages of competition she sang Billy Holiday ("I'm a Fool" a Capella and "Gloomy Sunday") as well as Nancy Sinatra ("Bang, Bang") and Gershwin ("Summertime"). She has covered many artists including Elvis, Leslie Gore, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Lana Del Ray, Ella Fitzgerald and so many more. She has also written 3 original songs, "What Is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo" all of which are remarkable. Angelina chooses her music and scores it. She plays multiple instruments and is fluent in 3 languages. Angelina always performs barefoot and wrote a book about why that was illustrated by her Iranian artist maternal grandmother. Her maternal grandfather is Japanese and her Father's side is Norwegian. I will leave it to you to discover the FULL story of her barefoot singing. I noticed Rusty Shackleford's post below. Many travelers following Angelina will pop up to comment on an Angelina reaction video. Rusty is very prolific and dedicated in this regard and an excellent biographer of Angelina's story. If you stay on the trail of Angelina's career you will be endlessly amazed and delighted. I am now a new subscriber. Thank you.

I loved your reaction to the "Angel of a Thousand Voices" & have subscribed to your channel in anticipation of more Angelina reactions. I discovered her about 1 1/2 years ago and have listened & watched everything I could find on the internet & it has changed my musical life. My earliest music loves were listening to beautiful female voices with an acoustic guitar (Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins & Joan Baez). For the next 40 years I moved to rock& roll, jazz/rock fusion & instrumental jazz (no singing). That is until I discovered Angelina & now that is all I can listen to 24/7. Now I'm back to my music roots listening to a beautiful female voice with an acoustic guitar or piano backing. I don't know what it is about her voice, I just know it is highly addicting & I can't get through a day without listening to her. Her latest CD "It's Magic" is amazing & on constant replay in my car, even though a jazz-challenged military band is not the best for her style, she makes it work anyway. The studio sound quality is so much better than most of her KZread videos. Her most beautiful songs IMO are A Million Years Ago, Stay & Born to Die, each is a masterpiece. I hope you will react to one of those in the near future.

Thank you for checking out Angelina! This is just the tip of the iceberg with this one. She has so many more sounds and styles for you to discover. I hope to see you look into more of her! Because Angelina is new to you and maybe some of your followers, here is a little bio on her so that you can get to know a little more about her.... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 13 (she is just barely 9 in this performance) - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through KZread videos and started studying all the greats from Jazz history. - Angelina always sings barefoot..... When Angelina was 6, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. The girl complimented her on her pretty shoes, so Angelina took them off and gave them to the girl. She made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. (that's a shortened version. the full story is more touching than the way I have told it here). When Angelina was 9 years old she wrote a book about the story that can be purchased on her website. (angelinajordanofficial) - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that come in. I have heard they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 100 songs over the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, and many more. All of which heard her covering their songs and were blown away by her talent. - Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube) In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a magical world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

Hello, I subscribed to your channel when you first discovered Angelina and enjoyed your reaction to her. You easily recognised how special she was and I looked forward to a regular flow of further reaction to her. But nothing! until this one.! I do realise that, as with many Reactors, the fans of other performers are clamouring for you to react to "their" favourite. It must be an almost impossible task for you to keep everyone of your subscribers happy. However, do you think you could give a little more air time to Angelina. She has many thousands of fans and, I am sure that like me, they have an insatiable appetite to watch and listen to Angelina. Angelina has been singing publicly since the age of 7 and the first video of her singing in a recording studio was at the age of 6. And, take this aboard. I am delighted that you have rediscovered the most versatile singer living today. If you continue to react to her many performances, and I hope you do, you are in for many pleasurable hours of excellent performances. I have listened to everything she has published on KZread and have often been surprised at her versatility - she can sing Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, and Rock - Listening to Angelina perform is an emotional experience in itself. d In an imaginative moment I likened Angelina to a chameleon, inasmuch as a chameleon adapts its colour to blend with the surroundings, so Angelina adapts the "colour" of her voice to convey the emotions of the song and communicate those emotions to the listener. In the six years she has been singing publicly she has covered songs by Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Elvis Priestly, Louis Armstrong and many others. She takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. She never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. In life she is a very shy and humble girl. On stage she is transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing. I follow a number of young singers through KZread and do so because their singing appeals to my emotions but good as they are and as much as I admire them, there is not one of them who can match Angelina's sheer ability and artistry in being able to sing so many musical genre in what appears to be an effortless manner, In an effort to get you started again on your journey of discovery, I list a few songs of Angelina singing from the age of 7 to the present day. Thank you for reacting to Angelina! Wonderful to listen to a voice coach opinion about her. And you really captured the things that make her so unique: her timing, her style, her range and the nuances in her performance. Most of all the fact that she, at such young age, perfectly knows who she is as an artist, something that definitely cannot be taught. Now prepare yourself to be captivated by her for ever, lol. She's certainly developing quite nicely into a unique, powerful singer :)

All this greatness coming out of this itty-bitty little girl body and larynx. Wow! Wow! Her timing is impeccable, too. I hope she stays herself. I hope she's let to develop who SHE is versus what others may want/think/wish her to be or push her to be. What gem! I love that you found and shared the later version of her singing - what a great thing to see her maturing and keeping her sense of herself. You have a new subscriber who will eagerly look forward to a lot more reactions from you on this incredibly talented young lady. I was very impressed your precise reaction to Angelina and am delighted that you have discovered the most versatile singer living today. If you continue to react to her many performances, and I hope you do, you are in for many pleasurable hours of excellent performances and your life will be changed for ever, I have listened to everything she has published on KZread and have often been surprised at her versatility but never disappointed by her performance. Listening to Angelina perform is an emotional experience in itself. In an imaginative moment I likened Angelina to a chameleon, inasmuch as a chameleon adapts its colour to blend with the surroundings, so Angelina adapts the "colour" of her voice to convey the emotions of the song and communicate those emotions to the listener. I follow a number of young singers through KZread and do so because their singing appeal to *my* emotions but good as they are and as much as I admire them, there is not one of them who can match Angelina's sheer ability and artistry in being able to sing so many musical genre in what appears to be an effortless manner. Many of those commenting have suggested videos for you to watch. So I will not add to your burden! However, I strongly suggest that you use Rusty Shackleford's websitre as your reference point for the videos recorded by Angelina.

She had JUST turned 9 when this happened. It was filmed Early 2015. And she isn't growing into her voice, she recorded I Who Have Nothing at age 6 and started on a Norway talent show at 7 & the season ended after her January birthday so she won the show after turning 8. It was also at 6 that she vowed to always perform barefoot after giving her shoes to an orphan that had no shoes. She vowed to perform barefoot until every child in the world has shoes.

Angelina started singing to old you tube artists Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. This song she got from Screamin' Jay Hawkins. There is lots of stories about Angelina and they are all true. If you want to see where this super nova started type in: Angelina Jordan Norway's Got Talent "I'm A Fool To Want you". After that you can pretty much go to any song she sings and see that God touched this child. I have watched videos of her singing before this performance, and I believe something tipped in her at that first audition from then on she has been flawless. Oh, you might also notice that she is never nervous. She believes she is where she is supposed to be and walks in that belief. I'm starting to sound a little too ,,,,too. I hope you go listen to that one performance, oh, by the way she is 7 when she does this song. She won the whole competition at 8 yrs. old.

I have seen a lot of reactions to Angelina, but I really, really like yours. Your comments were very informative, and your edits were great. You deserve many more subs. A few other things (outside of my standard bio post)... - Angelina was 9 in this video. The publish date is in Oct 2016, but there was a short teaser clip of this performance published in May 2015 (making her just barely 9 when it was filmed) The comparison clip you showed (I loved that you did that by the way) was a rehearsal from 2018, so she was 12 in that one. - As someone else mentioned, I have compiled a playlist of every song Angelina has done (every song that has a youtube video anyway) and the count is up to 116 songs! This playlist is 116 videos with no song repeated. Some are just short clips and some are when she was just 6, so they are not all necessarily suited for a reaction video, but it should give you an idea of the wide range of songs she has chosen to cover.... Angelina Jordan - Every Song: kzread.info/head/PL2v8kgVeo4EbQD6l_WAVjOfItquzW7oEc - And here is my playlist of about 80 of my personal favorites arranged in chronological order from age 6 to present day. You can use it to get an idea of where you are in her progression along the way. These are all winners in my opinion. You should be safe selecting any of the videos from this list for a reaction video... Angelina Jordan - Live Through the Years: kzread.info/head/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO - Also be sure to check out her originals at some point (the first 3 videos on the "Every Song" playlist... the 4th video is a song written specifically for her to sing by Nico Cartosio) I'm sure you will get lots of song suggestions from her fans, so just in case they don't leave a link, you will probably be able to find them on one of those two playlists. I should also mention that as many videos are in those lists, it is not even close to _all_ her videos. I have another unlisted playlist that has every video (not counting reaction videos) and between all her performances, interviews, and rehearsals there are nearly 400 videos in total! She has been very busy with her music. You can tell it's not just a hobby, it's a passion. Thank you again for reacting to Angelina. I really hope to see you check out more of her stuff because I really like your style of reaction video.

@ I think there are a lot of fans that know her better than I, they just aren't as vocal in these reaction videos. Boris is probably the biggest fan that I know of (he is the one that records a lot of her live shows). As far as her range, I don't really have the answer, as I don't know the notes ;) But I am familiar enough with ALL her songs that I would guess her lowest notes would be found in "You Make Me Feel So Young": kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4WClceco9jafNY.html ...and her highest notes would probably be found in "I Have Nothing": kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4iX2NiIZqWZedI.html But those are just my first guesses off the top of my head. Other more musically inclined fans might be able to direct you better.

  • @johnnybgbg

@ The lowest I found was C#3 (a C-sharp in the third octave on a piano) in "A million years ago" and the highest was a F5 (a F in the fifth octave on a piano) in "Feeling good". She sung a G5 as a falsetto note in the end of "Unchained melody" if that counts. That makes it a register about 2.5 octaves wide, which is a lot. AJ is contralto and they usually has a range of less then 2 octaves. AJ goes down into the male tenor range. She may of course be able to sing lower or higher, but it depends of the key of the songs she sings and publish on KZread. A young Mariah Carey had a 5 octave range, but that is extreme (from bass notes to whistle tones).

Actually Mozart came to my mind as I heard Angelina singing as she appeard in Norske talenter (Norwegian Talents) in 2014, She was 8 as she won, covering Ella Fitzgeralds Summertime. Angelina did not get a piano at 2 YO, but she was handid a Microphone at about 18 month, and she startet singing Withney Houston. Since then Angelina has ben singing, and as she discovered YT around 2 YO she hoocked up with classic jazz. I liked your compearing of now and then videos. When you start watching Angelina, you will notice how she is just a little, timid girl before the music starts - a shy smile and a wave "Hi" is typical. The the music starts and she BECOMES the music! She has said so herself, she enters her own musical world where everything is in harmony, which is probably why you will never see her other than completely confident before she performs. The interesting bit is when the music stops: If you pay any attention, she quietly becomes a little, pensive girl again, sometimes with a timid smile and a shy wave "Bye" - and with a full orchestra behind her, you can expect a little curtsy.

Greetings from Norway. I just subscribed to your channel. Great reaction. Welcome to the world of Angelina Jordan Astar. This was a great reaction video. I'm always happy when I see new people discover her for the first time. But many stop to react to her after this video, which I hope you don't do. She was about 9 years old in this video. I first discovered Angelina Jordan Astar when she first participated in Norway's got talent 2014, when she was 7 and 8 years old. ( here is a video clip from the finals: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m3aKx5hxqLyroMY.html ) I still remember that I was shocked in a positive way, and I have ever since that time been a fan. A fan of a child. I wouldn't believed it if you had asked me 10 years ago. I have never been interested in the jazz music genre , but Angelina's interpretations of old jazz music classics has "opened my eyes" for that kind of music for sure, and in a way "touched me". In the past year she has posted some great covers of modern music as well. As many has written she has released some original songs. One of them is her song Shield, which has already been covered in a song competition. Love your reaction, she has the ability to connect with her audience and convey emotion like no other singer I ve ever heard. One song after another is as good if not better than the original artist. I'm looking forward to seeing her grow into what I believe will be the most successful artist of her time.

We all know about Angelina’s astounding singing talent, whether it be with just guitar or piano backup, or with a full band or orchestra. I would love to hear her do a song a cappella all the way through - just her and the microphone. It would be amazing to hear the purity of her voice without any other sounds surrounding her. Maybe she could sing one of her originals or a great cover. While there are so many covers she could do, two come to mind - “Here’s To Life”, music by Artie Butler, lyrics by Phyllis Molinary, originally sung by Shirley Horn. The other is “Tears In Heaven”, music and lyrics by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings, originally sung by Eric Clapton.

Ms. Voice Love, I had the pleasure to go to Jackie Evancho's SLC, Ut. concert 2-27-20, and I was blown away. I've followed Jackie on YT since 8-15-10, and have watched her grow in her talent. Jackie also starred in a Major Motion Picture, THE COMPANY WE KEEP, starring Robert Redford and an all-star cast. You should watch it...it was filmed March 2011, about 5 months after America's Got Talent.
