0:22 Intro 0:40 If you were to make a guess, how many characters have you voiced? 0:55 What are your suggestions on improving range? I'm interested in voice acting but every time I feel demotivated by my inability to do multiple voices. Are there some good baby steps to help the transition into being able to better modify your sound? 2:07 Is there any special equipment you need for voice acting from home? 3:00 Does it happen often for someone to audition for one role, to then get recommended for another one they feel would be a better fit for their voice? 3:36 What would you say are the biggest misconceptions about voice acting? 4:15 Has there ever been a character you liked performing as from a show/game/piece of media that wasn't well received by the public? 5:20 What do you do to avoid destroying your voice while voice acting? And what do you do when you have a cold or something that compromises your voice and you MUST record? 6:50 is it fun? 6:52 Do you have a process or method to get into character? Does it adjust depending on the type of role? How much pre-work goes into developing a characters voice? 8:16 How often do you go to recording studios and act alongside other voice actors? 9:50 For someone who deals with comparing themselves to other voice actors or content creators, what is the best way to get over and or ignore that? 11:08 What does it mean for a voice director to be 'good at their job'? What type of direction does a good director give that enables a voice actor to give the best performance? 12:21 Do you believe that ANYBODY can voice act? In other words 'What do you believe it takes to be a good voice actor'? 13:43 Have you ever forgotten how to do a voice? Like one you've done previously, and needed to do again later, but just couldn't figure it out? 14:08 Since we've seen you been cast in a significant acting role (Blackberry). What would you say are the key differences for preparing for an acting role vs voice acting? Is this a precursor for more future acting roles or is there a preference between the two for you? 15:59 Was there ever a part you got where you nailed the audition and when it came time for production, the character or direction was different than expected 16:45 How the fuck do u make a demo reel 18:09 Does your geographic location matter if you're trying to break into the industry? Heard a lot of my favorites talking about moving to LA to get into the industry, is that still necessary? 19:42 Do you think it is more important to work on a wide range of voices you can do or develop your normal voice as far as you can? 19:59 What have you noticed as some of the more peculiar differences between recording for Anime vs Western projects? 22:06 Who would get more work, someone who can do many voices but is average at acting, or an excellent actor who only has one voice? 22:17 Do you feel like you have to put in more energy into your performance than you would saying the same sentence in a normal conversation to compensate for the lack of physicality when you get in the recording booth? 23:26 Are agents the only way to get auditions? If not, where else could they come from? 24:08 Outro

A voice actor is bad if they can only do the same voice. Having different variations of a voice is not bad, but it is intriguing if you couldn't tell its the same person doing the voices.

There are a ton of famous voice actors like this tbh. Look through a lot of animes, games, etc. You'll hear the same voice actor doing dozens of different roles, and they are all the exact same voice. Michelle Ruff is someone who immediately comes to mind. I have seen her in over a dozen roles and she sounds exactly the same in each one. Not that she doesn't do other voices, but she has a LOT of roles that are literally the exact same voice.

I’m a translator and 5:00 happened to me with the Netflix series Daybreak. It was incredibly fun and fulfilling to adapt it from English to Spanish, and I had a blast watching it being recorded and helping the process where I could. No one watched it in any language, tho. And it got cancelled, lmao. But to this day it remains as probably my favorite project I had the chance to work on.

Also for any TTRPG folks who want to try voice work/acting, try playing Dungeons and Dragon (DND). If you play with a good group, they’ll encourage the voices and acting. I’m in four different campaigns where I’m a human soldier with a British accent (not good haha), I’m a tortle barbarian who speaks very slow, a Giff (humanoid hippo) paladin with a southern U.S. accent, and a young adult Wizard who’s a coward. And I’ve definitely gotten better at doing the voices through practice and experience. And I’m not even pursuing voice work. And none of my friends are dicks about our terrible acting and voice attempts haha.

Basically I've always thought about maybe giving it a try, but I still have a regular day job I wouldn't want to give up necessarily. Is it possible to do both, sustainably, or does Voice Acting require full time commitment to stuff like practice and training in order to actually be worthwhile?

Ive tried to find a paid job but with just an associates in game design ive been more or less out of luck in that area, only taking on volunteer roles here and there. Never made a cent off my work. But, hey I still got time, ill get a bachelors in computer science soon enough and that'll make sure I get *some kind* of programming job, and one day it'll be on a videogame. I think I have the discipline to do it, im kinda crazy about game development in that way youre talking about.

Recognizing a voice actor because they've only got one or two voices that they do is only a problem for people who watch/play a vast amount of things. It doesn't apply to most folks. I kind of find it breaks my immersion a little when it's a voice actor whose real life face and name I know, because then I end up thinking about them as the person instead of the character, but I also recognize that it is 100% a me-problem.

"I can recognise the voice so it's a bad voice actor" is such a dumb take. I can recognise normal actors like Paul Rudd or Chris Hemsworth or Keanu Reeves from movie to movie, them being recognisable between movies doesn't make them inherently bad actors.

23:00 best example I could think of is the Xenoblade 2 english voice acting across the board. No emotions whatsoever. When the character screams the actor doesn't. It feels like they're just "reciting" their lines and not acting out the lines. This prompted me to just switch to the JP dub. XC3's eng voice acting improved though which was actually impressive.

Crazy that there's not a single question on AI. As a (visual) artist I hoped to get your view on the topic, since it's something that arguably affects every creative profession.
