During the fall of 2020, amidst the backdrop of the pandemic, VOCES8 embarked on a project with the Stay At Home Choir, to produce this version of Blake Morgan's arrangement of 'Caledonia' by Dougie MacLean, involving over 4300 singers from across the world. It's a song that reminds us of the comfort of 'home' - whether that's a place, a person, a thought or something else entirely.

I don't know if you can see the changes that have come over me
In these last few days, I've been afraid that I might drift away
So I've been tellin’ old stories, singin’ songs,
that make me think about where I came from
That's the reason why I seem so far away today
But let me tell you that I love you,
and I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me and now I'm going home
If I should become a stranger,
you know it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had
And I have tried and I’ve kept on trying, stolen dreams,
yes there's no denying
I’ve travelled hard with conscience flying
somewhere with the wind
Now I'm sitting here before the fire,
the empty room, the forest choir
The flames that couldn't get any higher-
well they've withered, now they've gone
But I'm steady thinking, my way is clear,
and I know what I will do tomorrow
When the hands have shaken and the kisses flowed,
then I will disappear.

I agree. For nearly three years, the USA (world) has been in a place it's NEVER been before. I think of it as a 'fight or flight' place. Our mind/body had NO IDEA how to react, or go into a calm state, etc. It's definitely a time that everyone needs/needed God more than usual. ♥️

This is elegance, reflective of the best of what our species is capable of all on its own - no deity required.
Paul Whittaker nailed the sign language interpretation on this. You could feel everything in his delivery.

I feel the same way. Wow. I got to sing in this! (I'm the first name in the choir listing.)
This was the very first of 16 projects with SAHC, which saved us all from getting mad during lockdowns and loneliness. Yesterday I was lucky, glad and grateful to listen to Voces8 live at Cologne silently singing the encore 'Caledonia' with them after a workshop/meet and greet with the group in the afternoon. Thank you for your music and your mindfulness and warm friendliness towards your audience before, during and after your concerts!
It was fun to have joined in this choir with Voces8.

@@shedrick6846 I had seen a video or two of the Stay at Home Choir before I joined, and then I joined in a smaller virtual hymn recording during the pandemic shutdown that got me into the idea. I missed joining in a couple of projects with the SaHC that sounded interesting, so when I heard that they were doing a project with Voces8, I jumped on the opportunity to join a recording with one of my favorite singing groups. Since then, I've joined a few other projects with the SaHC and another virtual hymn recording group, and now have taken over running the virtual hymn recordings.

I love Molly and what she brings to Voces8. But I just have to say: What a pleasant surprise to hear Eleonore one more time with this group! I actually cried while listening to this. These people deserve the best!

Beautiful and emotive arrangement of my favourite Scottish song. I think it should be Scotland’s national anthem. I like Flower of Scotland but this is much more personal to us Scots. Thank you, Voces8

First thing I thought of too. I’ve done 4-8 part multitrack videos and I can’t imagine doing that with hundreds or thousands of parts (some of which were certainly not great audio quality).

My first project with SAHC was Caledonia. This wonderful piece of music and these amazing singers launched me into my magical singing journey all through the past years of the pandemic and on to now! Thank you a million times over SAHC and Voces8. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎶🎵🌍

It seems at times we are tethered to a time and place we may not recall but still long for... I cannot speak to a specific geographical location on this earth. But our heritage is not so very different after all..... This music is a gift of comfort over chaos and grace over crudeness. 😌🕊️💞

Loved the Voces8 work for a while now, but I’m compelled to comment for the first time. THANK YOU for finally featuring true bass vocals in this arrangement. I often sing along at home and provide the lower octave. Happy to have not been alone this time!

I loved these style pieces - a good thing from pandemic. I had to think about speakers have changed so much in 20 years. My iPone can easily reproduce the sounds of a large choir which 20 years no speaker invented could. Now if the resonance of a really good building could come through we’d not need to ever leave home
