Simionato also used to sing the fioritura with H though. And many others.....It's not the right thing, but nowadays it's almost accepted. Same were G. Scalchi or M. Horne.

I think there is a real difference between the use of an 'h' and a neat articulation of the glottis for each pitch. This is also not the same as sliding across notes with less clarity and calling it legato.

Bartoli is airy even without her ha-ha-ha coloraturas, must be the consequence of the technique. She's like the sweetest and humble lady on the stage. then turns into a vulgar Queen of Hearts meets the Clown whenever she sings. Another aspect of modern opera that is keeping people away. the overacting and laughable interpretations.

I think the conductors want clarity so singers use aspiration. We need to learn how to bounce the notes with no "h" aspiration. It takes practice. LOTS of it.

Too much air in the modern singers. Where are their cords, and why aren’t they closing? No chest voice anywhere and no squillo either.

Tito Schipa, Gigli, put sometimes "h", that's probably because they are australian and sing rnb music 😉 Guillaume Ibos, close friend of Massenet and the tenor who whom he rewrote Werther from baritone to tenor does "pourquoi me réveillé hé" 🤔 probably a bad singer or bad french speaking 🤣🤣🤣 some serious, modesty and honesty would be welcome sometimes...

You shouldn’t imitate because it’s an amateurish defect when used for more than dramatic effect on a word/phrase. Imagine a violinist or pianist disrupting the line the way these aspirated singers do.
