So Hyang, Dimash, and Morissette definitely do not get the credit they deserve. The west (Hollywood) is a juggernaut at promoting their talent and the east needs to step up their game,. It’s good we have KZread reactors like Asia and BJ, otherwise I never would have heard of them either.

Whitney was the greatest legendary singer of an era. And Whitney will be proud of the birth of the next generation singer who continues Whitney's level in a true sense.

The arrangement allowed her to showcase her voice so much. It was amazing. I had the same reaction as you both. I was just in awe.

SoHyang’s not prof trained w/ exception of 4 lessons w/ Seth Riggs yrs ago (who luvs her). Rather self taught, even earning a degree…. so also lectures at Universities. She has no social media desire for fame, rather says her voice is God given; thus, main focus is yo use it to comfort others. She’s declined many offers /contracts over the years! SoHyang’s a huge fan of Mariah & Whitney, so wanted to honor Whitney w/ this. Oprah saw this vid, sent it to David Foster who sought her out, (tried to sign, but declined). However, she joined David & B McKnight @ the famed Blue Note Jazz Club, Tokyo concert in 2018!

You have only scratched the surface of the incredible talent of Sohyang, even more impressive when you consider she writes her own arrangements. While she has incredible powerhouse performances that should not be missed such as 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'Arirang Alone', 'Never Enough', and her tour de force 'Everyone'. I am currently obsessed with her stripped-down, "busking" performances on 'Begin Again: Korea'. Especially, 'I Will Always Love You', 'If I Ain't Got You', 'Love Poem', and 'Stay'.

So Hyang always makes songs her own that's why So Hyang's fans respect and love her so much.

You've just listened to one of the greatest female singers on the planet today. She is a devout Christian who is relatively unknown because she sings for God and to comfort people in difficult times, not for fame or to make money. Last year she turned down an international offer from SONY. Michael Bolton called her performance of "Lean on Me" as a "virtuoso" and offered her to tour with him- which she turned down because of her beliefs. She has a "Star" rating along with Whitney and Mariah. She is the queen of belting, mixed voice, vowel modification, etc (she has taught Voice at a university). Many of the most knowledgeable, experienced, and published vocal teachers on KZread (not the typical "vocal coach") (eg Roberto Delli Carri, John Henny Vocal Studio, Charismatic Voice, etc.) think she is virtually technically flawless and one of the best voices of all time. She is a cancer survivor (rendering her infertile) and believes that she survived due to God; you may hear her gospel roots in her performances; she believes what she sings. We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself (with the input of her musical assistants), teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese. Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. I knew that So Hyang was a cancer survivor but did not realize the complications from Hepatitis B and pneumonia that she has endured ... I will be keeping her in my prayers ... she truly is an inspiration to others by the way she lives her life and the choices she has made ...

Todd, good to see your support again for the first time listeners. Unfortunately she will never gain the notoriety that much lesser singers have, due to her choice not to sing for fame or money; but at least she is known to us who appreciate her both as an unparalleled singer and as a person. I hope her health hold up for many more years so we can enjoy her performances.

@@bbwng54 I truly believe So Hyang doesn't care about fame any longer. Life is _so much_ easier when you stop comparing yourself to others. It is no real measurement of anything when all is said and done. She has decided she only cares about what God thinks of her, and for that she is not going to lose any real fans! 😉

@@w8stral No, Dolly did not write this song. David Foster wrote is expressly for Whitney. And then Whitney's former manager heard So Hyang sing it, and showed it to Oprah, who showed it to David Foster. Foster immediately got ahold of So Hyang and arranged for her to join him for eight concerts at Tokyo's Blue Note club in late 2018. Foster puts So Hyang right beside Whitney and the other absolutely top tier divas he has worked with! 😉🎶💖

I've seen a lot of Sohyang vids but this is the first time I've seen this one. I always thought it was gonna be a boring rendition...boy was I wrong. Thanks for subjecting me to this because I like watching your reactions. I really hope and can't wait for some more reactions (because she has some better ones) because i'm on board:).

The final part is very good but personally I prefer her version of 'I will always love you' (outdoor live). It's perfect. And also 'Bridge over troubled water'. It's powerful.

I usually really don’t like people singing Whitney songs since Whitney’s voice is so unique in terms of power control and clarity, but this is probably the best version next to Whitney’s I’ve heard. Great reaction also :)
