    Falsetto is “Head voice”! Basically the only difference is that falsetto is more breathy and relaxed, so it is very common to fall into this falsetto type of singing, cus it is more relaxed. To do a more “full head voice” we need to restrict the air flow more with our vocal cords. And if you engage “chest voice” as well then it would be classified more as a “mix” rather than pure head voice, this helps to switch between the two registers! Mind you there is no clear line between when “”normal” head voice” becomes falsetto. I personally have found it difficult to tell the difference as well, and often thought is was in falsetto but when I actually just was in head voice. So to summarise: Falsetto is head voice but more breathy with no definitive line between the two. Head voice AND chest voice would be classified as a mix (usually). To practice this I would recommend practicing voice breaks. Let your voice do that awkward voice break and find the difference in feeling. Try to YELL in that “head voice”/falsetto, like someone is really far away and notice if you still have a BREATHY sound, Ahhhhhh vs Aaaaaaa. And finally practice the puffy cheeks and lip roll to help engage your abdomen to get more support! Actually another thing to try is talking and then singing in Mickey Mouse’s voice, as I believe his voice is almost always in head voice and rarely a falsetto or full chest voice. So try the classic Mickey Mouse laugh, and then try to talk like that, talk the lyrics to a song and then sing it (in the voice of Mickey). And remember, stand tall, drink water, and try to relax, sounding bad now is a given. Try and not feel awkward and ending up tensing up and holding back. (This is coming from someone who has had lessons from Adam before in the intermediate course, and I am not a vocal coach, so I might not be 100% right)

     @cannonballbob6949, I am one of Adam's current students (and have been for years and for many more years to come). I am also a classicaly trained Countertenor. Needless to say, Countertenors deal with head voice due to singing in head voice all the time. Notice that I said head voice and not falsetto. It is defferent depending who you ask, but having delt with head voice (and to a lesser degree falsetto) on a daily basis, I agree with Adam that they are not the same thing. They may use some of the same vocal technique in the production, but they do not both use 100% of the same vocal technique. Both head voice and falsetto have different pros and cons. One can get much higher in head voice then in falsetto. In falsetto, one will blow their vocal cords apart at some point. Thus, they are limited on how high they can go. With falsetto, you have more flexibility then in a head voice. Although, one can train for flexibility in head voice with time and practice. One can also give more emotion by using falsetto, but it is also possible to do it in head voice. It is best to learn both of the vocal techniques. Even though there are similarities, they are in fact different. In short, it depends who you ask if they are different, and in my opinion, again, I agree with Adam that they are different.

    Call Seto has the disconnect in the vocal cords the head voice does not. He will explain this in some other videos.

    But wait, can bass singers also use head voice, can theygo that high?

  • @cannonballbob6949

    @cannonballbob6949

    Yes they can! Any human is able to sing in chest and head voice (unless a medical condition hinders them). A bass singer however will probably fall into head voice EARLIER in the scale (in other words at a lower note) than others. With training, bass singers can sing very high, it will however require more practice and it will be a bit more difficult. And the extremely high notes of a Tenor might not be in the cards for a bass singer. The C# 5 as Adam here goes up to is at the higher range of a Tenor. But Tenors can go way beyond that, I personally don’t find to much difficulty up till around a D, D#5. And I’ve heard several Baritones hitting notes around there! I recommend checking out “I see Fire” by Geoff Castellucci and Oogie Boogie’s song “the nightmare before Christmas” by “Voice Play” (Geoff is in that group), here on KZread, and listen to both how low and high Geoff can go. (Especially in “the nightmare before Christmas”)

    Exercise videos are great, ultimately your voice is how much you do your exercises Not a fan of lip trill though. I feel it just eats up time you could spend doing more strength training exercises. Not very efficient
