    For the passerby... The "false-cord fry" is what's called vocal fry or the "grudge noise". It's not your false vocal folds rattling it's the vocal folds themselves vibrating irregularly. In speech and stuff this is completely safe but like projected into singing or screaming is extremely hard to do without fucking yourself up in hyper-speed unless you have a solid background in singing or by dumb luck learn how to do create the noise with the arytenoid cartilage instead. The "glottal fry" you talk about sounds like either the epiglottis+arytenoids or aryepiglottic folds. That's way safer, even for a beginner, but can be kind of limited to specific situations unless you learn how to use the stuff better for like general rasp.

    Hi William, haha - wow thank you! KZread is full of "vocal coaches" and everyone is a "vocal coach" these days haha! (even I'm not 'trained' as a vocal coach, but I am a professional singer who had to learn how to do this stuff just like you are - many years and lots of money spent on "coaches" who didn't really know how to teach me what I wanted to know, and now I use all these techniques when I sing live, etc)... I'm just here to pass the torch to the next generation to help people learn from my mistakes in order to get to where they want to go as fast as possible. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

LOL) Remember though, it's not a race, so enjoy the process of learning... it's like going to the gym though - if you go and pump weights for 8hrs, you aren't going to want to go back EVER....so keep that in mind! That’s not false cords. Those are vocal fold frys. You even went to the whistle register and it’s a pure vocal folds. Now, the back of the throat is not related to false cord, neither. The “morning voice” is all about heavy thick vocal folds being filled with liquid after sleeping. UPDATE. At some points those really were false cords. But it looks like you’re just mixing up different things ))

    @@RockYourBestVocals I think the sound is more important than what you call it. For example, very few people are going to confuse another sound with vocal fry. Well, they might, but in the low range where vocal fry tends to live, different sounds become more distinct from each other. Also, if you look on a spectrogram, you can see more harmonics in a fry then any other sound you can make. That is because fry is a highly compressed sound, and more compression means more harmonics. If, say, you did fry around D2, you would see your first harmonic at D2, and they would continue all the way to D6 and possibly even beyond. Kind of amazing that there are that many frequencies in something that sounds like bacon frying, but there it is! I like to use fry as a warm-up. It makes it really easy to get into the upper range after doing that for a few minutes. Used to warm up in falsetto, but that only frees the upper range, and keeps it disconnected from the bottom. Fry joins the two together when you slide up from it into clean tones.

    Whenever I do these fry practices it’s always breathy and not a crisp croaky sound. Why is this? Like the fry is there but it sounds really breathy and soft

    Hi Brandon, If you are putting pressure in your head and face, best thing to do in this case is to watch yourself in a mirror and become aware at what you are doing with your face... (it depends on WHY you are concerned with this - I make faces all the time because of my concentration on hitting the notes and emotional expression of the song)

    What’s the main difference between the two versions? Is the glottal just more intense and with more compression?

  • @RockYourBestVocals

    @RockYourBestVocals

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Colin! Yes, more compression and holding back more air than with 'standard' fry... when you let a little air through you get a more breathy and 'raspy' sound, rather than 'glottal'... make sense?

  • @colinbaker1665

    @colinbaker1665

    @@RockYourBestVocals that makes sense! With compression, as you start to get a hang of it, is it something you should try and ease a little when using it. For example, sometimes I try with too much compression and I get stuck. Is it finding that balance?

  • @RockYourBestVocals

    @RockYourBestVocals

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Colin, YES you got it man! The trick is in the BALANCE! Try starting really quiet and then gradually push more and more from the abdomen... try this up and down your range because different notes will perform differently and will need to be 'tweaked'. The more you work with it, the more you will be able to control it smoothly up and down your range! Good luck and thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

    that's top secret 🤫 haha - I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but if you mean how to sound more like Dave Grohl, it's just a matter of air flow really... if you want to sound more like Dave, you hold more air back... hope that makes sense! @@RockYourBestVocals Dave Grohl just uses distortion (hyper twang). The thing is, every singer is going to sound different when they distort. That is down to having different dimensions of their larynx and nasal cavity, different size and shape of skull, different size and length of vocal cords... Just like everyone's voice is a fingerprint, everyone's vocal distortion is unique to that particular singer. Where you run into trouble, is trying to imitate other singers that don't sound anything like you. That easily can cause strain and hoarseness. Instead, in cases like that it would be better to just sing like yourself interpreting the song the way you would sing it. Not only will you sound better, but you will also be able to make it your own, which is much more marketable than sounding like the original artist.
