The magic of his younger self was other worldly. In reference to drinking whiskey - his ability to drink a ton, right on stage, and keep the show going without so much as a hiccup, was beyond mind-blowing. He would just kill, straight liquor, and keep it going.

That was his last concert that was called an Azteca in the Azteca (that's the name of the largest stadium in Mexico), he retired even with a good range in his voice.

At his esrly concerts. He would take a bottle of tequila and tell the crowd that the concert will be over when he finishes the bottle or can't sing anymore which ever came first. Lol. By the way, he recorded a song with Tony Bennett.

It's been a while since the video was posted; but fun fact: the "arriba, arriba" comes from the Loony Toons cartoon "Speedy Gonzalez", which heavily portrayed mexican stereotypes from the times of the period known as the Mexican Revolution (around 1910), when revolutionaries (mostly farmers and poor people) dressed in the way shown in the cartoon (needless to say the hats are not exactly the same, speaking of style). The main difference between both outfits would be practicality: the revolutionary troops were poor workers of the farm, so their outfits were, mostly, cheap pieces of clothing that could be easily produced and replaced; the modern mariachi suit that you see Vicente Fernandez using here is a "gala suit" (so to speak) that has all the ceremonial elements you have seen: fancy fabrics and materials for the different elements (silver buttons, for example) and complex personalized elements sewn all over it (like his initials). This outfit is meant to be used only in important social events. About the fate of Speedy Gonzalez: While the character in itself wasn't "bad" and people in Mexico never took offense directly with it, in the United States it became increasingly uncomfortable for some sectors to see the general depiction of mexicans always as poor lazy drunk people, to the point Warner Brothers decided, eventually, to discontinue the character (rather than upgrade the background designs... I guess Gonzalez didn't survive the revolution). The mariachi style doesn't use "arriba, arriba" but it does have a characteristic "battle cry", so to speak, that might get some people confused XD. I hope you have seen it or eventually find it along the way.

To be honest to the reaction it was a bad video to pick since that was at the very end of his career where his vocal talent was minimized. That was his retirement concert. At his younger age he will power through those long hold notes but in here he needed to catch his breath so he left the fans sing. Don't get me wrong it's still a great video and I really liked your reaction to it

This man could still sing at this late stage of his life, but when he was younger, even just 10 yrs before this concert, oof, he was even better. React to him here singing "Aca entre nos" live, you'll see a signature move where used to drop the microphone and was still able to overpower the Mariachi. kzread.info/dash/bejne/kW1h0cadh7DFac4.html

Appreciate your enjoyment of this artist.... unfortunately, he's unable to achieve the levels he used to in his prime... even though it's old, there's another video showing WHY he was so loved...I recommend you look it up and watch (not necessarily a reaction) but the POWER of his voice was in its prime! Peace!
