The name boygenius actually stems from a joke about men in the industry being thaught that they are tortured geniuses from birth, and their every thought is brilliant. So any time one of them would doubt themselves in the studio, the others would say “Be a boy genius! Every thought u have is worthwhile!” as encouragement. They share a very deep and strong bond and friendship julien, phoebe and lucy, their friendship is a recurrent topic when it comes to their music

I just stumbled across your channel/this video in particular and as a fan of boygenius (as a group and their individual solo careers) and a musician myself, I really loved hearing you break the song down from a compositional perspective and everything you had to say about the quality of their voices and the way their personalities shine through their vocals/lyrics. Just wanna add a couple of things: firstly, while a LOT of people heard them for the first time this year, they actually aren't all that new as a group. They released their first EP in 2018 and did a mini tour in support. Secondly, I HIGHLY recommend you check out Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. Like Phoebe, they're both incredible singers and songwriters who write about their lives and experiences with authenticity and deep feeling. I recommend starting with: Historian (2018) - Lucy Dacus - this is her sophomore album, but she really comes into her own as a lyricist and vocalist on this one. So many great songs. Sprained Ankle (2015) - Julien Baker - this is her debut album. It's not much more than her voice and a guitar and it is so raw and immediate and emotionally intense.

Basically any boygenius ‘Cool About It’ live version from the tour this summer; Phoebe ‘I Know The End’ live from October 2021 at the Greek in LA; Lucy Dacus’ ‘Night Shift’ official video - and def watch the boygenius official ‘Not Strong Enough’ video just for the pure joy of it! Another artist rec: Caroline Polachek ‘Desire, I Want To Turn Into You’ - Y’ALL WILL FLIP YOUR LIDS!!!!!!

pls keep listening they are super talented artists all of them!!! i’d recommend y’all to check out the live performances of “cool about it”, “$20, and maybe if u want to watch their film which is called “boygenius THE FILM” it’s rlly cool and not too long. it has three different songs “$20”, “emily im sorry” and “true blue”. i wish all the live performances from the new album had an official video and filmed and recorded professionally cause what i would give for anti-curse to have an official live performance recording😢

would love a reaction to sleeping at last-not many people tend to know him as an artist and he’s one of the best songwriters I’ve ever heard - there’s a lot of genuineness and purpose injected into his music “Eight”, “The sea of atlas”, “silhouettes”, We’re still here”, “Saturn”, “Neptune”, “three” and “some kind of heaven” are all amazing tracks (but you really cannot go wrong)

You should listen to cool about it they all have a verse it can be like or recorded but you can really see the beauty in all their voices and its a good song in general
