To me, this is absolutely exquisite. It's a miniature, a compressed moment in time. I persist in thinking of Layne's arrangements as being humorous, busy and antic - I forget he's capable of pulling off this level of sensitivity and delicacy. But of course - he took the same exquisite care with True Colors, and that was a few years back. I think you would be stunned by the way they handled Nothing Else Matters. It's masterful. Moving into that type of song while not disappointing the metal fans is a tough assignment - and they did it with flying colors.

Eli (pronounced like Elly) has a fantastic range. You missed Nothing Else Matters which shows his lower range which is just lovely. Cesar did the high note in Dream On and his range is also huge though he doesn't want to know what it is. When they do live shows they make it great for the audience. It's where their humour and just good nature's come through.

As many others have already said, you just HAVE to check their version of "Nothing else matters"... Which has been labeled by some others "A Cappellica" 😁. It's A BEAUTY. And if I can say that, being NOT a fan of Metallica, trust me... It's just a masterpiece. 🙂

I think this is such a beautifully re-imagined version of this song. Love your reaction as always! You have missed SO MUCH AWESOME VOICEPLAY, KEN! DAMMIT! LOL....Check out their cover of Metallica "Nothing Else Matters"! You've also missed tons of Geoff's solo stuff! BTW...Eli is pronounced "Elly" (like Jelly). Another acapella cover I think you would lose your mind over is The Bass Gang "Hooked on a Feeling" featuring Tim Foust. It is brilliant! I don't think you have listened to Voiceplay's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" either...amazing stuff! And your brain will probably come to a screeching halt when you hear Geoff's cover "Ain't No Sunshine" and his Elvis cover of "Way Down". But there is so so so much for you to catch up on!

You know, I swear they made this one sound like a hug with a warm blanket because we needed it. We all pretty much lost our minds over their "Nothing Else Matters" cover the month before and they were trying to help us cope, lol. That one is fantastic! Haven't seen you react to VoicePlay for a minute! Welcome back! 😄

I’m glad you also noticed how much work they’ve done to raise the bar on their videos-and their voices, honestly. They’ve always been amazing, but beautiful things have been happening. I second the request that you check out Nothing Else Matters. It’s going to be one of their classics. Oh, and also, would you pretty pretty please check out Marwan Ayman’s cover of Avi Kaplan’s Get Down? It really deserves this kind of analysis. Great reaction, and good information!! Thanks!

Essentially all of Voiceplay have multioctave ranges 😂 Apparently in the behind the scenes of this video, Eli and Cesar were doing a bass-off too.

Wonderful to see you review Voiceplay again, you're one of my favorite reactors. I have a feeling the person who suggested giving them a current look was referring to their amazing cover of Nothing Else Matters. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen, you'll be blown away!

In acappella music the singers strive to blend into one voice. This is also true in chorale singing. Being the consummate professionals that VP are, I'm willing to bet there was no post-production involved to create that smooth, unified blend which makes it even more striking when they allow individual voices to stand out. And don't we just love it!

Ah one thing you should know about voiceplay is that they may be labelled a certain part (bass, baritone etc) but they LOVE leaving their alley to do other parts and just show their amazing ranges.

I love this simple song reworked by VoicePlay. The vibration in those harmonies is like a warm hug. Love that standout drum fill/lick by Layne. I also love Deejay's vocal agility. Would be so fun to see him in Hamilton! I know he does several of the lead roles.

Deejay is phenomenal live. I've seen him in 4 of his 5 roles in Hamilton. He does Hamilton, Lafayette, Hercules Mulligan, John Laurens, and Aaron Burr. I've seen him as everything except Lafayette. Burr is his favorite role.

Just a clarification: Eli is pronounced Ehl-ee, not Ee-lie. Check out their cover of Nothing Else Matters and Geoff's upcoming release (slated for tomorrow) to really see how they showcase the songs but really make them their own. And yes, their live performances are amazing

Cesar can hit the low baritone (something in the way) and the high tenor (dream on) and everything in between. He has such a beautiful soulful voice and I LOVE his airy “scheming” here.

I’ve seen them live. They had me as a patron by intermission. Their energy and stage presence is impossible to describe. Particularly Eli (pronounced like Jelly without the J) and Geoff. They freaking own the stage. Geoff will make your rib cage vibrate. He did a slide a few times that I swear went right down my spine. And his voice through the kind of speakers concert venues have is damn near a religious experience. I had to close my eyes for much of the show; I had too much to process audibly and had nothing left to process any more sensory input. As others have said, you need to hear “Nothing Else Matters”, but they’ve also dropped a downright vicious cover of “Valhalla Calling”, both with J None. Both are well worth your time. You think THIS had drama? Buckle up for these others two. 😉 And yes. Cesar is a baritone, but he has a good range and is comfortable in a tenor range. Geoff also can get up in that range. Listen to his solo stuff where he does four part harmony and covers all four parts himself. I’d recommend his “Sounds of Silence” or “Man Of Constant Sorrow”.

My favorite part here is the first 'lie awake and pray.' It sounds like a full choir, not five guys. And not to belabor the point, but yeah--this one's very pleasant. Nothing Else Matters will knock your socks off.

VP is the absolute best a cappella out there. In the BTS video they had "bass lessons"-- both Eli and Cesar hit low enough they could have sung Geoff's part in this. They have 5 octave ranges just like him. Geoff just dropped Sound of Silence on his solo channel and it's amazing.

Please please please do a reaction video of...Voice Play One Minute Musical ( Miley Cyrus ). Music & lyrics are by Geoff Castallucci & it is hilarious. Also, Voice Play One Minute Musical ( Light Bulb ) music & lyrics are by Eli. They were made back in 2015 & not many people know of them. Since they are short videos you could do them both in one sitting. I know you will get a kick out of them.

No, it isn't. This is what trained singers sound like when they really know what they're doing. If it sounds artificial to you, it's because most performers these days can only get this kind of sound with technological help.

They Do Not Use Autotune. They’ll add distortion or such in a ding that deserves it, but they don’t need autotune. I’ve see them live. I’ve heard some random goofing in a hallway as they came out for a meet and greet. They are as good as they seem.
