@@KlooKloo, Also, her raw emotion.
What I love about Sinead, and what she demonstrates so perfectly here, is how she dedicates her whole being to the song. Not just her voice, but her hands, her eyes, the curl of her lips, her whole body is a medium for emotion, not just her vocal cords.
Prince may not have realized it when he wrote this song but he wrote it for her. No other rendition ever has come close to the emotion she pours into this song. I'm a 56 year old tough guy and I have never not once listened to her version without at least one tear coming to my eye.

Agree 💯 This song has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it (I was 3), and has always held a special place in my heart.
She was asked in an interview a few years ago if she still liked performing this song, and what does she think while singing it to summon emotion. She said she never gets tired of it. And it reminds her of her mom who died tragically in a car accident when Sinead was only 18. Amazing. If one watches her expression when she sings the line "all those flowers you planted in the backyard, momma; All died when you went away...." I think you can see a flood of emotion inside her as she pictures her mom.
Sinead is the epitome of just pure emotion and beauty. I have not come across another artist that does it like her. Nothing compares to Sinead 💚🍀🍀🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
She was epic, going to miss having her in this world.
Sinead O'Connor's performance of this song is one of those moments as a vocal coach where you just have to cease even judging. Just sit back, relax, and appreciate the experience of how powerful the human voice can be when it's a million miles deep into the emotion of something.
I was fortunate to see her live at the Lilith fair. She stole the show. Her voice was absolutely breath taking.
Such a fantastic singer and person. One of those rare singers that truly just feels the music and releases it. She will be so very missed.
Love Sinead she didn't sell her soul to Hollywood and she has suffered in her personal life but wow what a fighter she is. Have great respect for her and her amazing talent

RIP Sinead. One of the most passionate people in my lifetime.
I can't believe she's gone. Destined to go down as one of the most beautiful, haunting voices in musical history. Rest in peace darling- you will never be forgotten. Beth- you are incredibly blessed to have spoken to her!
She’s the first voice that ever just made me go through a range of emotion and the hair stand up on my neck. It killed me the shit she got over ripping up the picture of the pope. Even when they knew about the abuse she received and her true statement. Now she’s gone and people never heard her struggle and statement. Now they use words like legend and talk about how she stood up for women’s rights. The same people that dropped her from her label and booed her off stage love her now. She was always a beautiful soul and voice and she don’t want tears from hypocrites. She was too strong to “let the bastards get her down” and don’t want their sympathy now. I was a life long fan and listened to what she said and the reasons behind the bold statements she made. She was a warrior fighting against abuse. As she sang to a crowd of boos. “Untill the basic human rights Are equally guaranteed to all Without regard to race Then we say "war" !She didn’t shy away. She doubled down and yes she is a legend.

What an amazing singer, no one sings that song like her!
Sinead feels the lyrics, truly feels them and that is the difference to so many other singers. She also moves the way the music takes her not caring for choreography, it just takes her where she feels and its so right for her. I love the keen in her voice.
This song and THE WAY SHE SINGS IT (it was Prince's song originally) could be considered one of the most iconic songs of the 20th century.
Best vocalist of all time. Period.
Sineads Irish accent has Everything to do with her distinctive "cries"& "voice-breaks". I love Sinead, her voice is one in a billion, I remember her from the 80's so vividly, time flies by too fast! She has such an amazing voice! Thanks for reacting to Sinead O'Conner.

So true! There are a few songs that I feel only Irish can sing because of that. Irish hauntingly beautiful sorrowful lilt.

Me too. Record store in Stockholm in February 1988. At that time you had to ask the person in the shop if they please could play this or that record. If the music wasnt on the top lists it was some work to find out what you liked. But somehow I found The Lion and The Cobra and was complete hooked. Sinead was the same age as me. It must be a very special talent to create something like that at the age of 21. Rip Sinead beautiful soul ❤
You remember crying to this song when you were younger......I’m in my late ‘60s and I still tear up...thanks Beth.....rawr.....

Love, love Sinead. Her Faith and Courage album is my favourite.
Sinead gives the depths of her soul when she sings. I think of Janis Joplin. Both of them focused their deepest feelings through their voice, and use their entire bodies to deliver! Raw, true, brilliant!

Beautiful understanding of the visceral voice of Sinead in this amazing song/poem. This isn't a performance, just as a lark singing isn't a performance. Thank you, Beth.
What. A. Performance. So emotional, almost too emotional for its own good, but so damn magnetizing.
PLEASE do more Sinead!!!! She has such an incredible voice. Troy, Black Boys on Mopeds, Fire on Babylon... the list goes on and on. ❤️
I saw her live, but sadly she didn't sing any of her older songs. She was still incredible even though the material she was singing wasn't as iconic. One thing you notice here is how she uses her whole body to sing, like jumping forces air through her voice in a unique way. She moves her head away from the mic deliberately to drop suddenly. It's intentionally broken and sloppy. You are so right that she is fully in control every second.
I was in that concert i was 10, i don't remember much, she blessed us with her presence, what an honor, so glad to had her here and seen her live, even when i don´t remember much, R.I.P.
I've always said that her singing in this song (either live or studio) is the best interpretation and expression of a song, ever. It gives you chills. So much that the video of the song is just her face, it's fascinating.

I think I watch this video once a month, when I need to feel. Literally. 1 other video only somehow brings me to the same level of music-video emotional feel: Joe Cocker - with a little help from my friends at Woodstock (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ppqA261rdLm8hbg.html) Here ! Saved you the trip ! :-) . Different genre of course, but it just makes the same vibration into my soul. Joe's shout at 5'59 resonates the same in me as Sinead's here at 4'09 and 4'38. Don't get me wrong, I love another 100+ music videos ( LP - one more light / Eagles - Lying eyes / Ben Harper - The drugs don't work...) but these 2 are just so special to me and can never get old. Seen all of the aforementioned artists live, aside from Sinead:-(
The Wolf Is Getting Married is a great track by her
R.I.P Angel such an amazing voice…😭😭💔🙏🏾
The song was on the radio when I, the first time heartbreak had and even today I come to tears at the song!
Sinead O’Connor is still up to now one of my favorites singers! Nice reaction vid!
All her songs are great, but I think this one really shows off her voice, and passion the best. This song may have been written, and eventually even performed by Prince, but there is no doubt this is HER song. No one can ever do it better.
Wow. Every time I hear this, I am brought to tears by her emotion. She wears her heart on her sleeve and expresses the anguish to a degree that most of us would never do. We then naturally feel an overwhelming amount of compassion for her in that moment. I just want to hug her, grab her hands, and tell her she's going to be okay and her feelings are justified.
Her version of “She Moved Through the Fair” is something special.
Definitely the greatest cover of all time. The emotion in her music and voice is uncanny. I can't believe you haven't reviewed her before actually. Sad story about what happened to her for sure but she is a survivor!

It's a cover- Prince wrote it and it was recorded by The Family first.
She was pure and raw talent, unnaturally gifted and exceptional.
When this song came out - what a wonderful, beautiful, amazing risk to take with that film clip - to lock off a face and just let the humanity of it ... The face, the voice - create the wonder , the emotion, the pain. If you can't feel it when you see that film clip, then you're not alive. In an era where the fast-cut film clip was coming into vogue, as Beth says here, Sinead was fearless. That's art - not just throwing in a profanity for shock effect. Being truly risky and different. That's artistry.

Warrior saint magic magic artist.. She was pure brilliance. May she rest in peace with her mother and son. She said she always thought of her mother who had already passed away when she sang that song..

The words embody heartbreak, her voice in this song IS heartbreak. Absolutely. Every second you've been through heartbreak, it's all there. If you ever forget the raw pain, listen to this and it all comes back clear as if it was happening to you right now.
Immediately fell in love with Sinead again as I did hearing NCTU as a young man.So touching and beautiful! And it brings back so many memories of these days. For example sitting in a car as well in company of two friends. 3 young guys in metal clothes with long hair and that brutal deathmetal patches on our vests trying desperately to hide the tears in our eyes while listening and swearing to each other what happened in the car will stay in that car...now it's time to come out with the dirty truth: All three were crying like little girls deeply touched by that angelous voice! 😂🥰 I don't call out names so I hope I will be forgiven!😊
Sinead's ability to convey all of the emotions to us is absolutely epic, Bless her heart. She is my Dream Date!
Her voice is beautiful 😩

I was watching this a few weeks ago and was hoping you would do this. Especially this performance!!!! Its truly something to behold isn't. So much controlled anger and emotion in her actions, so real and RAW!
OMG I have never see Sinead perform…..this most bee the most emotional performing I’v seen in my life, I forgot to cry. Only stearing and hearing on this wonderful so underated woman I’m shocked! Love to see her open her mouth, and bee so relaxst at the same time. I agree with you, she is a so big musican she dont think of what she do, she just do it! I have see the video of this song over and over a thusen time +++++ I’m sure she had reall tears…..and Thank to Prince R.I.P for making it, I had read about her, and I saw her at a Opera-show in the 90’s…..I feel so sorry for her. She have a bipolar-diagnose, she traied suicide in -03. And her childhood was very difficult. Now she married for the 3 times, she’s orderd to a priest and she’s a Muslim now…..I love this beaty, she seems and hears like an angel 💞
Sinead takes me back to high school. I couldn't get enough of The Lion and the Cobra back then ❤
Emotion comes thru the voice most of all when it is pushed to the edge of the singer's ability to control it.
So rare that the live version is so much better then the studio version.
Thank you so much for this. I'd love to see more because her performances have so much variation and there's a lot more to talk about!

I bought the album when it came out and Troy hit my like a brick off a skyscraper. A friend told me I would like it and him owning a CD store in a college town, he knew what he was talking about. I listened to Troy so many freaking times. I would play it in my car before I went into work. Play it again as soon as I got back out. That album is one of the best first albums ever made imo. She won a ton of awards for The Lion and the Cobra, but as a female singer I felt she never got the respect she deserved for it and the several chart toppers that were released after.
That gig was in my city, Santiago de Chile, to celebrate the end of Pinochet’s regime. Amnesty held a great 2 nights show called “un canto a la esperanza”. She was so good at stage and activism activities those days they all were here. I Will remember her here forever
