This was originally written, as a jazz instrumental by Chick Corea in the early 1970s. it was some years after that before Al Jarreau adapted to this.

He is the legend singer and dancer like michal jackson... he called in the philippine.. MR. PURE ENERGY

I don't think I took a single breath throughout that performance. HOLY MOLEY!!! Absolutely and thoroughly entertained by this guy. Almost makes me want to quit singing...almost. What a range, vocally and stylistically. Great reaction, this is maybe my fourth or fifth time watching your reaction videos and you have quickly become one of my favorites. You break it down, and yet you really don't ruin the flow of the performance. Keep it up, your channel is going to get big, I can feel it.

That's a 53 years old pure energy of the Philippines!!! A total performer.almost died and live for the name of music.damn!!! So good.

Gary is the youngest 50+ year old I've seen in my life lol... Scatting is the popular art form that during his childhood so I guess that is why he opted to do this. His strong points are his lively and animated performances as he's known to be the concert king during his prime. This is him sitting down in an enclosed area, so imagine him with the freedom to move onstage because he's really more well known for his dance moves. This might not be the performance to observe his singing. Oh, he's 53 years old, but he can definitely give young artista a run for their money, esp in dancing. I went to his concert with Regine (Asia's Songbird), Lani (Asia's Nightingale) and Martin (Concert King), and it was worth every penny. He bust a move like its no ones business.

@@SoaringTrumpet Before you make an extremely stupid comment. Make a research about this song. Google is there.Search its history, who wrote it, how did Chick Correa able to make it into jazz? Who wrote the lyrics and check out Al Jarreau's version and compare it to Gary's. If someone make a version of a song, it doesn't mean he stole it from the original. If the case is like your understanding, all versions were stolen from the original. While scatting is normal to jazz singers, Gary scatted all throughout the adlib(instrumental part) which Al Jarreau did not. What Gary did was he just sung it in the style of AJ. Style is adaptation. We can't say Michael Jackson stole his style from Jackie Wilson and fron other artists that influenced him. If he mimicked the song,everything from breathing,tone to inflections in all his performances without asking permission to the original artist, then you can say that he stole it. Compare their separate performances before you make stupid accusation. It sounds silly but its forgivable because you sound as someone who doesn't understand music.Peace!

Gary Valenciano also called "Mr. Pure Energy" is one of the greatest, fundamentally expert, legend vocals/artist in Philippines music industry. Filipino's used to hear this kind of musicality from him (and other Filipino artists) since 1980's and that is why many perceived his songs (made many Filipino's sing karaokes) from ballads, lullabies, pop, rock, name it. Some of his talent-calibre artists are Regine Velasquez, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, Pops Fernandez, Sarah Geronimo and many others. BTW, he is a very nice dude.

I loved your reaction, how mesmerized you are to his performance. I always watch your videos and this is one of the best reaction I've seen. Gary Valenciano is one of best singer here in the Philippines. He is a great actor back in 80's, song writer, record producer, tv host, judge and mentor as well to some reality shows like The X Factor Philippines season 1. Even though he is type 1 diabetic, he defies it and proves you can beat anything if you have passion and loves what you are doing.

"Spain" was composed by Joaquin Rodrigo in 1939 with a long history of instrumental adaptations until keyboard genius Chick Corea wrote the jazz fusion lyrics in 1971 and released the album "Light As A Feather" with Corea (Rhodes electric piano), Flora Purim (vocals and percussion), Stanley Clarke (bass), Airto Moreira (drums), and Joe Farrell (flute), and made it a jazz standard by 1973. "Spain" was recorded in several versions, by Corea himself as well as by other artists, including a flamenco version by Paco de Lucia, Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin in the 1980s, and a progressive bluegrass version by Bela Fleck in 1979. Corea also performed it as a duo with Japanese pianist Hiromi Uehara. Corea thereafter corroborated with Artie Marten and All Jarreau to rewrite the song, and Jarreau made this popular during his world tour in an album titled "I Can Recall" in 1980. He actually hasn't changed his appearance since the 90's. Also another tidbit, the most popular christian singer in the Philippines. If you take a look at all his popular music, if you look at the lyrics you can see the messages. Its a way of preaching Gods teachings without hitting you over the head with it.
