The absolute silence before s standing ovation is the next level above. That silence is impossible to "fake"... it means the audience is stunned and it usually lasts about 3 seconds. If you are a performer and this happens to you it feels terrifying but it is the highest honor an audience can give you. It means you have touched every single individual in that audience. Purely Amazing.

  • @beverlywhite8433

Most performers will never experience this phenomenon in their entire career. I learned about it after it happened to an orchestra I was part of did a particularly moving piece. Everyone was just "on" that night and we could feel it ourselves. As it ended (single note by the oboist - not me btw) there was 3 seconds of silence followed by an explosion of applause as the audience lept to their feet. That 3 seconds was among the most emotional seconds of my life. Later our conductor explained it. Even one person who had remained un moved would have started clapping and the rest would have followed. As a singer, Brian pulled off a feat almost unheard of. A truly stunning performance.

@@beverlywhite8433 this particular silence was actually slightly edited, you can tell by the way it was cut that it was slightly extended. The whole edit was completely unnecessary because what was truely telling was the complete silence while he was performing which you cannot edit. Almost every performance no matter how mesmerizing usually has one moment where people break out in applause or cheering but the one camera roll where it scrolls across the audience from left to right just show a crowd that is so purely captivated by what they are seeing and hearing.

Believe it or not, sometimes you can be so professionally trained that it can sound a bit too rehearsed and not quite spontaneous and sincere enough. This song “Creep” and the way he sang it, lended itself perfectly to his training and was a brilliant choice!! However, choose the wrong song and it comes across as I mentioned. Unfortunately… 🙁

The presentation of this song was so poignantly offered to us that I was really touched. I've seen it before but have the same reactions every single time. He's a pro at what he does. God bless him for the fascination, admiration, and contemplation that we go through with every single song he presents (I don't just call it singing because it's so much more than that.) And Tara, I love how you are not afraid to show your emotions when something moves you. So touching to watch and listen to. I'm so glad that I've found you. I can't sing at all, so I can only listen in deep admiration to people like you and Brian Justin Crum that can move us with a song. Thank you.

Thank you Tara, I really needed that today. Brian's rendition of Creep is by far my favorite (listened to it over a thousand times by now), and helped me accept my sexuality, myself as who I am and not let others define who I should be or aspire to become... When Brian said "maybe I am just... worthless", the way you looked at the camera felt like you were looking at my soul saying "of course you're not, silly". I am so darn glad to live in this century where people are finally understanding that love is love, no matter how ! Seeing you react to him and love him reallymade my day, thanks again Tara, love u !

In the line of singing I am involved with, stage presence is always a big factor. This performance is a masterclass on stage presence. This guys ability to grab the audience even before he starts singing is staggering and to keep it up until after the song has finishes is even more staggering. This performance gives me chills every time I hear it. Just to add, his eyes are haunting !!

OK, so I must say first that I'm SO GLAD you reviewed this. I saw him perform this live on AGT, and I'm terribly embarrassed to say that I have watched the KZread video more than 200 times since then; probably more like 300. I think it's stunning and RIVETING -- as the stunned audience reaction revealed. I can't believe it's taken this long for someone to recommend it to you, but I'm thrilled you have heard it now. The note he held FOREVER, then dropped into another, which he also held a long time, was incredible. You hit the nail on the head when you said that he sounded as if he had even MORE air! Crazy. Your review of the dynamite, bluesy performance of Haley Reinhart's version of "Creep" also was spot on. It was BRILLIANT. Can you believe the difference in the approach to the same song??? Both GENIUS in their own way. Thank you, Tara! (And I'm certainly the oldest "student" you've ever had in your "Sing Smarter Not Harder" course. I'm in the early stages.) Love, love, love your reviews. And if you want to hear yet another great "Creep," check out VINCINT's version on the competition show The Four.

She talked about couch time, about the importance of having your background story ready. My couch time: I’m an immigrant from Mexico. I was bullied for being fat and wearing thick glasses in school. When I was 12, I stood up to my bullies and that was the end of it. My dream is to become a professional singer like Josh Groban. Josh is one of my biggest musical inspirations.

It seems to me that many of the friends that I have who suffer from depression are really amazing wonderful people in other people's eyes. Many are smart, high achievers and are admired by their peers and yet feel a deep doubt about their self worth. Even when they recieved compliments, they don't believe they. I'm wondering, have you told a close friend, family member or sought professional help for your depression? It's not to be taken lightly and shouldn't be hidden from loved ones. I suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts when I was younger. So again, have you told anyone yet?
