Vocal Coach Reacts To Andre Matos | Shaman Fairy Tale | Live | Ken Tamplin
It's always great to learn about artists from other parts of the world so I always appreciate all of your recommendations.
Andre Matos is someone who has come up many times so I wanted to do a reaction to one of his performances.
Not only is Andre an incredibly talented singer, he's also a composer, producer and pianist who happened to be in some great Brazilian heavy metal bands throughout his career.
Matos started off playing the piano at 10 years old and joined his first band Viper when he was 13. Matos later left the band to pursue other interests and started to explore classical music.
He ended up going back to school to complete his education in music where he specialized in music composition and orchestral conducting.
Andre continued his musical career with bands like Angra and Shaman and at one point even auditioned to replace Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden where he finished third in the running.
For today's video I chose a performance to the song "Fairy Tale" when he was in the band Shaman. The song has a hauntingly beautiful melody and really stays with you.
I hope you all enjoy the video and let me know what you thought of his performance!

    @Gabriel Barbosa I am sorry! How can you say he did not get recognition in his own country? Take a look at the audience in this show of this video. It was a pack!!! Most of his shows were always crowded. If it is not recognizing an artist's work, what is it? If you meant that he was not recognized by the fact that he was not on the talk shows from great media everyday nor being played on the radio, you are wrong again because most media world wide does not give a shit for heavy metal. We headbangers are supposed to support them and we do that by purchasing their records and buying tickets for their shows. It has been enough for the bands. Right?

  • @gabrielbarbosa9516

    @gabrielbarbosa9516

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@AFx3144 I understand that, and I know there were a lot of people who supported his work. But the recognition I'm talking about is that of a widely spread FAME, that goes beyond genres and social status, as a great musician! I know that probably wasn't his goal, but it just feels unfair when other people randomly swim in money while his death was barely noticed. And I'm well aware pop songs and singers are more famous all over the world, but I feel that in the end, in some other countries, true talent stands out, while in Brazil it is kind of buried under other interests that are not music itself. That's just something I feel, and I don't mean to ignor the large number of people that were loyal to his work; I just feel that the system (not only the media, but the entertainment business as a whole) was(and is) unfair to him and to his genre of music, and I think he deserved to be vastly known, not only by fans of metal music but by the general public(yeah, it's probably utopic, and wishing for it is probably useless, but I still do)

    By the way, this performance was live in the city of São Paulo (in the state of São Paulo as well, similar to New York - New York) - I guess his most famous song is Carry On, which he sings live in the same show as Fairy Tale. Although, he used to have a very clear tone and warmth to his voice, up until when he left Angra to start Shaman. In Shaman, he adopted a whole different technique, to match the vibe they were going for, in the band, very gritty and a lot of drive in his voice. He did use those before, as well, but only to color the song, whilst in Shaman, everything had to be raspy. When he left for his solo album, he went back to using drive in a more moderate manner. Couple of awesome songs, where he really stands out: - Letting Go (Andre Matos Solo Album - Time to be Free) - Wuthering Heights (Kate Bush cover) (Angra - Angels Cry) - In Paradisum (Symfonia - In Paradisum) - Carry on (Angra - Angels Cry) (As previously mentioned) - Make Believe (Angra - Holy Land) I could write 50 more, but these are the ones that stand out the most, i guess. In his last live shows, and his last 2 albuns, you could clearly see that (while he was still super great), he had lost his voice a little, perhaps due to vocal nodules, as he did use an extreme amount of air with every high note, which could dry up his chords. Maybe it was just due to his age, as well. Even then, he was still a lot better (and lasted a lot longer) than a LOT of singers. He's also a graduated classical musician, and you can clearly see that from a lot of his work, heavily influenced by classical music.

    Heavy Metal lost his Maestro. Pianist, orchestra maeatro, lyric singer, spoke 5 language. The guy was a genius. Created Viper at 14 and at 16 was already well known in the metal scene, left to finish his music studies, then co-created Angra and the band represents a generation in Brazil. Thought it wasnt enough and left the band to create another huge band: Shaman. Shaman's Ritual was one of the best album in Power Metal history. Everything the guy touched was a sucess. The most interesting part of this song is that he didn't write only the lyrics and the piano, but he wrote EVERY INSTRUMENT OF THIS SONG! He was a maestro and that made it possible. Another interesting fact about this song is that He wrote while he was still at Angra and Kiko Loureiro, who nowadays is the solo guitar of Megadeath, played with him at Angra, but Angra refused to record this song, which was a big mistake, because it is probably the most famous song that Andre composed.

    André was called our Steve Perry. He really looks like Steve, even the hook... And of course, both amazing singers. André have made some amazing songs in every band he was. He's mostly recognized by Angra, but Viper, Shaman, his solo career all were really great. He was a classicaly trained pianist, so he used to compose some classical pieces adapted to Heavy Metal. As you can hear, it's very "medieval". Great reaction Ken, and people won't bother about your opinion, after all we all can have one. And being yourself a maestro, your's it's really respected. PS: That's a very psychedelic tshirt!

    The year is 2001. Angra releases Rebirth. One year later, Shaman releases Ritual. About one year later, Angra releases Temple of Shadows, arguably one of the best power metal albums of all time. What a time for power/melodic metal fans. Matos and Falaschi at their best.

Back in my teenage years Andre was such a huge influence from the music I listened to the way I dressed and the way I still sing in the shower as well haha. My heart was broken when I heard he passed away. I spent the whole week listening to his work from the famous bands to his not so famous solo album. Thank you for honoring his memory. I was waiting for this video and I am not disappointed at all. Your reactions are always kind and interesting. I am completely agree with you about the raw pitch, he used to have a smoothest voice before . I was really chocked when he died. I remember the first time I listened to Angra in 1994, in my small town in France. It was such powerful but, some kind of delicate too. Always original. I do not know why but there is some kind or some sort of good spirit vibrations in their music. Thanks again for your video and nice t-shirt as always ;)

    André Matos was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, conductor, producer and pianist, known for having been the lead singer of the bands Viper, Angra and Shaman. He died in 2019 due to an acute myocardial infarction. His curriculum includes Orchestral Conducting, Musical Composition, Lyric Singing and Classical Piano. React to Dan Vasc singing this song in tribute to Andre. Andre was fantastic in everything he did, he is greatly missed by our music. tks
