This day she was sick whith neumonia. Doctor not recomended her singing that day but she refuse it because of compromise whith the program schedule and all the people waiting for her in the show.. admirable in all angles this lady

A warm welcome to So Hyang's world. I am always so surprised when vocal coaches say they haven't heard of her when she is so good, but I guess it's because she doesn't promote herself -we all do across KZread. She has zero social media. You really need to listen to "Arirang Alone" from Immortal Songs 2 next. :) Good job on pronouncing her name too. By the way So Hyang is a cancer survivor and has frequent bouts of pneumonia, she had only just got out of hospital after a bout here so she isn't at her peak, but this is still my favourite performance.

@@jvoxfox - Fyi; the effects (reverb+delay) is over the top bc we are getting a feed from the desk as well as the auditorium in this video. The audience is only getting the FOH, the effects would not be as pronounced-if that makes sense.

There is a point of perspective for listening to Sohyang, she sings to uplift and comfort people who have been hurt by the pandemic , in a sense she has given over her angelic voice an heart fully to her lord Jesus to comfort people.nowhere more evident in her performance of "Everyone", for which i recommend you search for a version with English subtitles.

Among the many songs sung by Sohyang, the song that started the reaction video overseas is "Bridge over troubled Water."

So Hyang said in a rare interview that she graced a KZread vocal coach from Turkey (Emre Yucelen) with that the most difficult song she ever performed is Everyone and her reason was sustaining her breath .. amoung her fans Everyone is her her very best song but Arirang Alone with her Bb5 mixed belt is her signature song .. in all honesty all her songs are amazing in their own right ...She also has diversity in genre's aside from CCM and Ballads even Rock (Mona Lisa) and HipHop/Rap (Day Day) from the original S. Korean show King of Masked Singer. Lastly she is also an Author of Fantasy Novels.

So Hyang had cancer, pneumonia, and hepatitis. In this presentation she sang with pneumonia. So Hyang is 42 years old (43 in Korean age) and is considered the Mariah Carey of Korea. I hope you can make more reactions from it, you can continue with Arirang Alone. Love you reaction ❤️

Right! She was suffering from pneumonia at that time. She took painkillers and went on the stage and did not show up for the two years. Fortunately, she’s back in action now.

As mentioned in some comments, she was reviving from pnemonia and went to sing against doctor's suggestion with the belief that this was going to be her last singing performance, as she won't be able to sing again. After this she went back to the hospital to continue her therapy. Thank god and "Everyone's" prayers she was able to perform for us again after two years hiatus. Lovely reaction on this human gem.

This is the best version of this song there has ever been, the arrangement is stunning and I read where it was stated that she wrote this arraignment ....unbelievable talent !!

Women is in her mid 40s survived cancer is about 90 lbs tops and sings like a machine. She is an absolute phenom!!

I've never seen Sohyang before as I usually only watch songs from artists I'm familiar with, but WOW, this performance was LEGENDARY!!! She's such a phenomenal artist!

Hi, I watched many of your reaction youtube of sohyang. She is best singer not only because her technique is flawless but also her interpretation and absolute delivery of songs 100% even more to the audience. Therefore, when I listen to her singing I feel like watching drama or movie. One thing more, it shocked me when I knew that she suffered severe flu during her stage of 'You raise me up'. I really love your videos.

I love this version of the song. The amazing thing is most of those song arrangements in "I'm singer" contest show were done by Sohyang and a friend of hers. She's a true artist.

I didn't discover her until about two or three weeks ago, and now I can't get enough. She's one of the best in the world.

When She did "You Rise Me Up" She is a Cancer survivor And still gets sick from Time to time. The Night she did this was recovering from pneumonia and just got out of hospital day before was advised not to Preform that night.... per-doctors advice But So Hyang does not know the word quit....So she was a Bit off....... But No One would know it from listening to It/Her And per an interview....She learned to Speak English from Watching Disney movies...as a Child

Julia, you are wonderful too. There is "Begin again Korea" free concert program that So Hyang participated to go around Korea to comfort people in this pandemic. There are nice songs you can hear her near raw voice. She sings with half of her capacity but still mesmerizing. " Please" is my favorite. Peace & health to you.

Sohyang is an absolute vocal powerhouse! One of the best singers ever in my opinion! And I love her arrangements and musicality on top of her vocal ability! I don't know if someone else commented this already, but I know you wondered exactly how high she can belt, and, so far, she has shown the ability to belt up to C#6 with no strain! Her belts up to G5 in this performance, while stunning, are quite easy for her! One of the best belters ever without a doubt. I'd highly recommend checking out her performances of "Arirang Alone" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" next for even more insane vocals and complex, emotional arrangements!

She is beyond good. I love "lean on Me" and "I will always love You". It is fun to watch singers like you react to her. and love her. She and Dimash have the best voices in Asia. They are better than than our singers.

Her Voice is a weapon. You said it right here, right now.

@@Kalki70581 I truly believe the reverb adds the most beautiful quality to the opening. Even if she doesn't need it, utilising reverb isn't a crime and here it creates a stunning soundscape.

I think most Soyang should be standards-they are that good. Her voice is so so good along with her excellent dynamics and emotions. I always come back to Soyang when I want to hear some classics sung by a magnificent professional. A fan in USA

SO HYANG Is MAGIC

A Warm welcome to the amazing world of SoHyang...!!! this is just the tip of the ice berg of her talents... it's not surprising that you're fangirling from the first time listening...!!! she's a master of emotions, her singing is like radiating emotions, and she rewrite your emotions with what she wants you to feel... also she doesn't have this is me, it's my style kind of thing, it's just the song, she will become whatever she has to be for the song, to be able to fully express the song to its fully detailed effect...

One additional note: She's definitely not perfect and has had some health issues. She never signed a recording contract so plays a lot of smaller venues and churches with mediocre sound engineering so you'll see a few clunkers in the fan cams, but those just make us love her more. You can never watch a So Hyang video and not feel happier for the experience (even when you are bawling your eyes out.) Looking forward to more reax!

Oh I forgot,she is known as the 'queen' of mix and her signature note is Bb5,although she does go higher but that note is a real sweet spot for her

I was there in person to witness this!! I 've been her immortal song 2 west life special show. She was just another level!!!!! I was shivering and crying like a little kids.. She is truly outstanding singer and person. I can't describe how phenomenal her live. I realize her KZread live video sound quality is shitty!!!! Her live is 1000000000000000000 time better than that!!! And She is Too humble and amazing!!! I love more than her ever. I wish she can do World Tour like Beyonce or Adele. I am always excited to see someone with vocal knowledge to learn about Sohyang. While all the vocal pedagogy may escape my limited brain for comprehension, the emotional impact of Sohyang's performance cannot be avoided if one has a pulse. Appreciate your comments and observation. While having listening to many of reactions to Sohyang, this is the first time I hear the remark about how age plays into a person's vocal technique. And yes, Sohyang is well recognized for her ability to mix voices and the control. She also has superb breath control and stamina. You spoke of voice processing. Many who listened to her live actually stated that her voice sounds even fuller and with more resonance since the post production in fact reduces the impact. Her performance demonstrates an absolute mastery of her instrument and I am quite certain hearing her live would be a profound experience. It is true that the recording itself cannot capture exactly what is happening live and I am sure in person would be magical. I am definitely going to listen to more of her work!!

Hi! I’m from Australia too and awesome to see an Aussie do a reaction vid. Thank you so much for it =] I just wanted to point out I’ve been a huge fan of hers for a while. Along with a lot of people who felt the need to comment as well. But I wanted to point out something to give her voice and reason for singing abit of context. She’s a very bubbly person who says herself that she talks too much, she sings for the purpose that it might help assuage people during their darkest times (probably why she sings even when she’s ill). Given how technically gifted she is, its no mistake why a lot of people who listen to her are almost always reduced to tears cause the sheer amount emotions she carries in her performance. We all know how much of a difference it makes when a singer really believes every word they are singing. Hope you do more reactions in the future!
