As far as I know, the most popular theory behind the song is that it denotes his struggle from being overworked and cast away by his previous management and that he recovered from an injury, due to which he was on a hiatus at some point, only to bloom again. First time I hear about a death of a close friend.

Rufus Bayne yes he is one of the best male singers in Korea with the ability to support up to C5 almost effortlessly

He said that when he sings Wild flower, especially the highest part, he feels hard because of not the high notes but his emotions. (+ he said as a joke “Most of my songs are high so it doesn’t matter to sing. lol) He composed this song when he served army. He went through lots of hardships. His first entertainment company was holy f**king shit. They treated him like as a slave who just brings them tons of money. And 2010, he lost Park Young Ha, who was also a famous actor in Korea. He created this song with all of these wound.

Indeed. Once, I heard there was an event that the company pushed him singing while his condition was not okay. Then, he had to consume a certain medicine to prevent his body getting worse. Not really sure, but I read somewhere.

​@@marshmart965yep, the previous company was an absolute sh**. treated him the worst, changed his voice,to the point he got an illness that almost caused him to lost his voice, and had the audacity to actually sue back when PHS sued them for the damages they have done to him. not payinh his salary, even he have to actually hold a concert by his own money because of the company scammed the fans. he had to file for bancruptcy bcs he lost to his agency with his lawsuit. he literally lost everything. then during his time in the army,he then created this song just to remind him of his difficulties, and the pianist helped him and make this into a song.

I cry every time I listen to this song. This song means a lot to Park Hyo Shin himself. His music career, the death of his friend, and the bad treatment by his first company. He wrote this song when he had a hardship with that company. However, how hard the circumstances were at that time, he always stood on his own feet and being strong everyday, like the wild flower.

No matter how many times i saw this video, i'm always tearing a lot. Omg. Never in my life i saw a person singing very soulfully, through the deepest part from his heart. His deliverance is sooooooo perfect! 😞

Breath, Goodbye, Another Day, Home, Happy Together, Shine your Light, Sleep in White, Beautiful Tomorrow, are just a few of his 'newer' songs. He has been singing for twenty years now. Debuted at 19 and is 39 now. His voice has only grown stronger despite many things, which you can research if interested. If you listen to his live performances he will amaze you. Park Hyo Shin, took over first place in my favorite singers file about 5 years ago. He is amazing to study. He was very popular when he was younger, but sang in a very different way. After his troubles with spasmodic dysphonia he began to sing very differently. The early songs are fine, but he has moved into a realm few get to. Some in Korea call him "God Hyo Shin", makes sense to me. His early singing was good, but seemed like work. Now, not only does he sing as if from the heavens, it is also all very seemingly effortless. If you are curious, there are many many videos of him from over the years, on KZread. Thanks for not talking through the whole thing and just stopping here and there to let us know how it was striking you. Cool.

I hope I’m not imposing but I just discovered ( about a month ago) an unheralded female vocalist with an angelic heavenly voice that no one will recommend so if interested here is the artist and 6 of my favorite KZread songs by her. She goes by the name “ Evior” She’s from the small Faroe island and when she gives a performance virtually the whole island of about 600 show up. She has an angelic voice so unique , so mystical , so magical, so entrancing so hauntingly beautiful so I hope you will watch after which you will probably be become an avid fan and utter to yourself “ why on God’s earth is she not famous??). You’ll want to subscribe to her website where she will enthrall and mesmerize and entrance you with about 40 more songs ( a mixture of live and MV’s and she is one of the few world class vocalists who is as good or better performing live. Every one of her live performances will silence your mind and open the floodgates of your heart and soul. ). Please KZread the following 6 live performances ( first 4 from her small island , the 5th ( “ “True Love” live from LA ) and the last in Denmark in front of thousands with full orchestra performing for the Queen Of Denmark!). Here they are Eivor “ free falling” ( the one that’s 6:47 duration.. it’s in English ) You will love her and her band. It’s on the island but inside I believe a restaurant seating capacity ( when the camera panned the audience) probably 300 lucky lucky souls to witnessed this beyond amazing performance. The island’s backdrop scenery of mountains and rivers are breathtakingly beautiful and I wish I could book a plane and be sitting with the islanders for the live concert. This was just one of many songs she ( and her band and special guest) performed. Similar to Diana Ankudinova ‘s “ river” performance. Evior “verd min live” (4:41 duration ... pure angelic rendition and one of the most recognizable voices in the world. This song in her native langauge will send you to where angels tread. ~ : “ Eivor Palsdottir Wake me Up” ( 7: 11 duration) it’s in English and she kills it with celestial high notes and emotional impact. It’s about her longing to wake up from this earthy dream and reunite with a lover that left her with this heart-wrenching longing. ( and oh boy does her voice scale the ethereal heights). This vocalist has already become one of my top 5 female vocalists And I just discovered her less than a month ago. My 2nd recommendation ( “ spellbound”) similar to Diana Ankudinova with enchanting tribunal mystical sounds. But the other 5 recommendations are different in style ( “ Falling Free” and “ Wake me Up” more like symphonic ethereal metal ( a little bit of Nightwish comes to mind). She’s so versatile. As mentioned she has a website with about 40 more amazing songs ( a mixture of live and MV and most over the course of 5 years got very few responses but all responses were OMG, WOW, NOW MY FAVORITE FEMALE VOCALIST , INCREDIBLE , BEYOND AMAZING . Excuse my excitement but whenever I discover a new amazing vocalist I can’t control my emotions. Finally: “Evior may it be “ ( Lord of the Rings) in front of thousands with full orchestra and the Queen of Denmark! incredible, mystical, celestial , will transport you to a higher realm). this is definitely a representative song of his, and he had very hard times with his previous agencies which exploited him excessively by doing ridiculous things such as announcing his concerts without HIM knowing, not paying the band/dancers, overworking him till he got an illness, the list goes on. they further sued him for trying to end the contract and this tough times made him want to quit his music career as well. because of this past he often sheds tears while singing this song, which makes the audience rly emotional as well

Park Hyo Shin has one of the most outstanding voices ever! I have been a fan of his since he first hit the scene. I have see. Him live so many times and he sounds even better live!

Since everyone talked about the song. I just want to point out the fact of him being a legend in korea. He is 39 yo yup (looks 28 I know) he has been a singer for 20+ years. He doesn't appear that much on tv if not at all. So, being in that crowed is like hitting a jackpot since that's the only show he appears on like once in "what feels like ten years" hahaha also good luck on getting a ticket for his concert, it's a mission impossible, specially for the non-Koreans. Anyways, his songs are all worth a listen. And does musicals .. Which I also highly recommend. Anything he sings live is a must listen either his song. Or covers, or musically

Two of South Korea's musical living legends and musical geniuses. I always find it odd to hear reactions by people who know nothing about them, and who compliment them as if they are two nobodies. Lol But I do love seeing new fans discovering them. :) Park Young Ha was a close friend of both of them. They wrote this song together when they were in the army together. It's both about losing their friend to suicide, and PHS's agency trying to ruin him. It's only recently that he's been able to sing this song without breaking down.

Au début de sa carrière Hyo Shin avait une voix plus grave, plus jazzy, mais grâce son travail acharné il est arrivé à étendre sa tessiture et atteindre des notes plus aiguë et que dire de son vibrato incroyable et sublime. Je ne suis pas du tout une professionnelle, donc je réagis avec ma sensibilité et l émotion que je ressens. Il faut dire que jamais un artiste m a autant touché que cet homme, je l ai découvert au moment où ma vie était difficile et il m a aidée à sortir la tête de l eau. What you're talking about when you mention dropping the larynx creating a deeper sound is that it reduces the volume of the higher harmonics of the voice (or increases the lower harmonics... or both to a degree). It's the same fundamental tone, but less of the higher harmonics.

He used to sing trot which is a very popular genre in South Korea during the 70s til 90s. He used to have a very airy style of singing (and we know how difficult it is to sing with that kind of style) and that was what he was known for until spasmodic dysphoria. His singing style evolved to what you are hearing now.

I don't really remember exactly when he get Best Singer for Live Performance. My Korean friends said there are 4 top male singer but not known as k-pop idol... 1. Park Hyo Shin 2. Naul 3. Kim B. Soo 4. Lee (i don't really know his full name). They have great technique, unique vocal, has a lot character.... my favorite: Park Hyo Shin and Naul... highly recommended for you as foreigner (outside south korea)

Funny thing you should mention Operatic and Musical Theater styles, as he does perform Musical Theater, you can find some of his performances here. I believe he's had operatic training though, even if it was just a part of his whole training. I also agree with one of the people below, you should also check out Goodbye(there's a live perf for it as well, pretty good imho).

@@guxinlenhai Depends on how long he's been doing musical-theater compared to how long he's been exercising these techniques. But anyhow, if what you're saying is true, then it's even more noteworthy, as many vocal coaches in KZread are saying that he's probably had operatic training. So yeah, intuitive is not doing him justice in this case. In the end, I'm not an expert, but if he can fool vocal coaches, then he's really something(ok I wasn't expecting this realization in order to readily say that :P, goes without saying).
