I can only imagine Mariah's pride at this moment. She was invited for a fundraiser by no other than the Opera legend Pavarotti, the he asks her to sing with him and then asks her if they could sing Hero. Is definitely one gold standard song. Doesn't get any better, instrumentals, vocals lyrics, passion and goosebumps

This performance was also IMO her best one vocally in 1999, you can tell how much she made sure to rest her voice so she can sound amazing like she did in 1993

This was huge!! Imagine being 9 years into your career and have THE Pavarotti sing your song (that you wrote) in Italian with you!!! Mariah's heart was melting. Also, the way it initially sounds messy but then you realise their musicality is so beyond that there is not ONE thing out of place here!! One tiny error and everything would have been foiled, not THEM, they are the embodiment of music.

I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE OMG. This concert was HUGEEE Mariah wrote about this moment in her Memoir. Her Mom being an Opera singer probably made this moment extra special that she got to do it. lol

Fun fact: this performance is the last time Mariah sang Hero in the original key, and the first time she sang it in that key since she lowered it during the Daydream era (1995-1996).

You're right about the lowering of the note during daydream but that was simply because she would add a G5 at the clima so it sounded more impactful. I have also seen some fan videos during the Charmbracelet tour where she sings in the original key and ends with a whistle. (not always tho)

Wrong Fact! Why do you all make up these things? Mariah sang Hero in its original key during the Angels Advocate Tour in 2009. Stop making things up, PLEASE!

Mariah Carey early in her career: Pavarotti yeah he's one of the greatest Opera singers and voices of all time. Pavarotti: Mariah Carey, who? I'm sure Mariah was incredibly nervous for this performance as she knew her raspy voice didn't deliver what she'd hoped especially singers with arguably the GOAT voice which is why this video contained the dubbed version. Pavarotti sounded the same as always 😁

@@THjorth There is always some delusional dumb in Mariah's videos, She did Magic and Pavarotti knew that at the end of the performance. Dubbed and Undubbed, both delivered what they did in the rehearsal but better and yess with this raspy voice, the only powerfull voice audible in the clímax along with pavarotti in the next performance "we are the world" 😂😂

Amazing contrast emotion in his voice gave me chills I am a singer Mariah still belted out that gospel and her signature airy soft vabrato This made me cry

I've been watching this performance since it first came out. I think both of them are two of the greatest singers to ever walk the planet. Let's give some props to Mariah showing off her experience as backing vocalist here to support him.

an iconic and unexpected duet!! i remember being a new lamb and discovering this performance and thinking, "huh!?!?!? mariah AND pavarotti???? singing hero???? how's that gonna work out (i mean we know theyre both amazing vocalists but you know)" in any case, they both slayed. the arrangement was gorgeous and epic, mariah's tone was so beautiful, light, and feminine, which contrasts to pavarotti's heavier and stronger vocal. his delivery and control is spectacular. overall, a solid 9.5/10 (i would give it a 10 if mariah hit the E5 in "lord knows! but it's okay hehehehe)

My gorgeous GG, who passed away in 2018, loved Pavarotti, so when I found this duet, I had to share it with him. He absolutely loved it. It was like his idol had come together with mine, just for us. I miss my GG every single day and I often listen to this performance and think about him. Thank you so much for sharing. The two voices and styles you wouldn't have thought have worked on paper, but clearly they do. Thank you again xx

Amazing merging of music styles (opera and pop/r&b)

To think this was performed at a time Mariah's voice wasn't in the best shape. She sang it on the original key and sounded clear and good. Very similair to how she sang it in 1993/1994 music box Era but then on a matured way. Proved she could still hit those notes!! Not exactly the same but still high and powefull!! So no for the haters Mariah's voice is not gone and never will!! It's tired and dryed out nowadays but still intact. Now that were experiencing the pandemic Mariah has been able to rest properly for almost two years now and that has helped alot cause we've seen last year and earlier this year how clear, good, rested and powefull her voice is becoming again. I have a good feeling next year or after for her next album Mariah will give us alot of powerfull songs again with vocals she hasn't used in years!!

One of the amazing things about Pavarotti is the pure joy he has when singing with an other star. The respect he has on stage and he never tries to outshine the other star. You must be trolling 😁She's literally standing next to Pavarotti at age 70 and he's almost whispering the most of the song compared to her singing her lungs out yet her voice is almost drowning every time they both sing. Calling her the greatest vocalist of all time is so offensive to most aøof the lesser known female opera singers Pavarotti sung with throughout the years that blows Mariah out of the water vocally let alone one of the greatest voice EVER in Pavarotti. Mariah is an awesome ballade / pop singer, but as a vocalist she's just that. And I'm a HUGE Mariah Carey fan.

Please don't make so many breaks. You cut the flow and the wonderful legato of Pavarotti. I like this duet. As you say they respect each other. I would say Mariah was more excited than him because it was a great honour for her to sing with the greatest opera legend at his benefit concert. She was nearly shy and very proud because her mother never was able to sing with him together on stage. And he sang her song. This makes it very special for her.

This was a good combination. P has a very distinct tone of voice and M was too low and lost in the mixture of sound as a result. I have like Meriah from the beginning of her careerbut Morissette cas a cleaner & more melodious tone and if she was to song in a similar enviroment her voice would have been heard. @@nicojulleza1843 Do you realize that there is nothing new under the sun? As an athlete I understand that we learn, improve and change from whay we can see from our past. Mariah learned to do what she does from someone before her. That is the way of this world. In soccer what Messi does has been done before him. Pele did many of the moves that modern soccer players are doing today but, they are adding their own twist to the game. Morissette has said who inspired her and I think that she has stated that Mariah is one of them. However, this does not invalidate how good Morissette is and wether she is better, in some respects to Mariah, that comes down to our personal tastes or opinion. Nothing wrong withat that. To each his own. Morissette's tone is crystal clear and very melodious to my ears and so I think she has improved in some areas if you want to compare them. I have like Mariah from the beginning of her career. Morissette has moved me to tears by her passionate interpretations. Mariah never touched me this way. Thank God for those that have paved the way for us. I would hate to have to invent & make an airplane or pacemaker.

In that your already invalidating mariah's talent from what you have said earlier and to add this morissitte to uplift your faves crystal clear voice (to subtly promote your fave when she's not even mentioned in the whole vid) is a clear fact that you have already imposed comparison to Mariah, you do realize you can praise Mariah's talent with out initiating any "but's" on your sentences (mariah is good but mori is crystal clear, mariah sang well in the past but mori outdid her in todays current voice), Its excruciating and misleading on what your trying to point out. Your mori can do high notes though to come for mariah is already rock bottom for pooh. And to compare music to your soccer bonanza metaphor won't shut me up jose, I don't care if Mariah ain't fit to your "standards of vocal prowesness", I just hope you know how fit your standpoint to a place where it is fitted.
