I saw someone's theory about this is that the teens, in limbo where time works differently, were able to watch Penny's complete and fulfilled life. At the end Penny/Jane's voice was her calling to them to join her in the afterlife. I find this absolutely beautiful, so it is how I choose to view it.

This is how I do too. It’s quite poetic for the song. We don’t know any of the context, nothing of how hard she tried, just that Penny/Jane got to live. I bet it almost causes some dissonance with the out-of-time aspect on the other side, in a fun way.

One of my favorite details about this scene is the fact that in the beginning of the show Ocean reaches for Ricky's hand and he pulls away but by the end of the show he reaches out and takes hers with a smile. That growth and development in their relationship means a lot to me

I think this end doesn't tell us what's after death. The ride is just referencing our life which can be fun, terryfying but also will end. It's not a game where we can win or lose, it's a ride we're on as passengers

I'm super late, but some fun tidbits -It was Jane living out her life behind them -Karnak "dies" as he predicted at the beginning before we meet the cast -Ocean is facing out, while Noah and Mischa are huddling over Constance and Ricky bc "She has grown and is choosing to face what's next head on" (a direct quote Oceans actress said to me on tiktok) 💜 I'm so glad I made my way back here to watch you watch this❤❤❤❤

I love how not only does the show finish with the line ‘I know this dream of life is never ending, it goes around and round and round again’ but the motif musically resolves on the very last note, allowing a sense of completion alongside the nostalgia that comes from the motif being repeated.

Since this show has had so many versions, practically every song has had rewrites or replacements. It’s interesting: since this song was written, the only noticeable change has been the removal of Ocean and Ricky singing “no one will measure/how hard we tried” at each other after the first chorus. The lyric hasn’t been replaced or retooled to tell a different part of the story that was lacking. It hasn’t been rewritten to better fit a character’s personal growth, or even amended to fit in motifs that were created later. The song has merely had a lyric removed that was sang better in the first half of the song. Its lyrically tight, the technique’s great, and the style brings me joy. Plus, the choreography when they walk in place on the turntable is so satisfying. It’s the second thing everyone’s waiting for when you have a turntable: turning people around a centrepiece comes first, and walking in place comes second. Needless to say, this is my favourite song in Ride the Cyclone. Edit: Ricky sand that line with Ocean, not Noel. Oops.

Tbh my favorite version of the show is the 2016 off broadway. The Fall Fair Suite just ticks right for me, and really other than Ricky’s concession and a few of the rewritten parts since I do love it more than most of the version

@@wyster14It was a really good cast, it wasn’t overwritten, and the choreo was clear. Though yeah, some of the Ricky changes were really good until the recent set.

I like to think that at the end Jane had finished her actual life and was back in the afterlife, so at the end of her life she gets this random memory of being with the choir and sings that as her last words so as she goes into the after life it's what she says. As the other five see the light it's telling them that it's there somewhat of and end to this miserable limbo of living their death over and over again so once Jane goes into the after life they are finally let free of that bind in someway. I also have a head cannon that once Jane lives her full life the 5 kids run to see her and call out to her, specifically Ocean. The interaction would go somewhat like this Ocean: "Jane!" She says as all of them run to her Penny/Jane: "huh? Oh, you must be mistaken sweetheart my name's Penny" she says to Ocean. Ocean just smiles and hugs her, the others join in and hug the confused old woman Penny/Jane: "oh! Why are all of you kids doing here in this place?" Constance: "you don't remember?" She says as they all let go of the hug Penny/Jane: "Remember what?" She says as she looks at the kids. They all stare at each other and then back at her Noel: "the accident..." he says as he looks at her showing that her response had hurt him a bit Penny/Jane: "t-the accident...?" She says with a bit of confusion in her voice. The kids look at each other and nod at the same time they hug her one last time All the kids: "we missed you Jane" they say as they let go of her, they smile at her and run off with each other to a different place. Penny/Jane had known what they where talking about once Noel had mentioned the accident but she knew it was better for them to think she didn't remember it at all. She just smiled at the fact that they remembered her after all that time.

I know I was super late to joining you watching the full musical, but I'm so grateful that I made it in time for this song at the very least. It's my absolute favorite, and I really enjoyed your reactions to it (and you doing the choreography that you recognized!). I *live* for the jump dancing they do around 6:12. Overall though I just love the message about enjoying the ride of life. Probably the greatest irony about this musical's role in my own life- I've never been a rollercoaster person. They scare me. But this musical, about kids dying on a rollercoaster, has made me want to work up the courage to do rollercoasters more. Theoretically it should have turned me even more off of rollercoasters. But it's done the opposite. Some day I hope to have children, and I don't want my personal fear of rollercoasters to get in their way of experiencing this ride/I want to be able to go on them with them to help comfort them so they can have a good time. And even without children, I don't want to miss out on extra depths of experience I can have in my own life. ...It's just a ride. (obviously we'll try to make sure they're safe first haha, but just that general idea of not letting life pass by and making sure to "ride the cyclone" as it were).

I love that of all of the videos I've watched you don't really have any feedback because it's so moving.
