They are both amazing... but lets be honest. Amber Riley has to hold back for them to seem evenly matched
I always found it amusingly ironic in this duet that Lea/Rachel sang Maureen's part of the Duet, and the OBC Maureen was Indina Menzel, who played Rachel's mom in Glee. And fwiw it worth I've always loved the way Lea and Amber's voices blend.
I think they are both amazing in this, but Mercedes did the song better, attitude wise, to me.
React to Kurt doing “Rose’s Turn.” It’s a phenomenal and very underrated performance
Mercedes and Rachel have the strongest voices in Glee club, and this is definitely one of my favorite songs they’ve ever performed!! I appreciate both of their voices, they’re sooo different and these two ladies are super talented!!😊💖👏🏻👏🏻
i believe mercedes killed this performance! her runs/riffs and adlibs were such a great addition to the song but her voice in general is just heavenly. both of them killed it tho!!
When compared to the 2005 movie rent I prefer Tracey Thomas over Mercedes. Version. Rachel sounds exactly like Idina.

I think for the type of song, Mercedes fits better, racheal just doesn't bring the proper attitude, like even idina menzel added attitude to it

I like how they start out hating each other at the beginning and are loving each other at the end.
Just like you said, It depends on preferences, They are both such great singers.
You really need to do Amber's "I'll stand by you" from season 5 episode 3. Probably her most emotional performance. She puts her soul into it.
