As someone who recently saw Lea in Funny Girl on Broadway from center orchestra, I'll just say that this cover is good, edging on great, but Lea's rendition now is magnificent. Her voice and acting have matured so much. As Kurt always said, "she may be difficult, but boy can she sing." She got multiple standing ovations before intermission.

She did don’t rain on my parade live for one of the Tony awards! Not sure which year but you can see how she does it if you look it up!

mercedes was originally doing the solo but their setlist got stolen so they had to do something quick and rachel was the only one with something fully prepared so she had to do the solo. but i agree, it is always only rachel ( aside from santana once ) who does the solos. literally 😭

@@camillaarauna5334 though this is true she got the solo and duets. it gets repetitive and i know she’s the star and most dedicated but it’s good to mix it up especially if one gets solo and a different gets duets etc

@@swiftievich I might be wrong but I think for the competitions there was either a solo or duet. They made her do most of these as she was regarded as the best singer in the show. If it was both a solo and a duet in the same competition then she probably would have just done the solo.

@@swiftievich they all got spotlight moments but people are so obsessed with competition solos but they had context for her solo. People even b^tched about it here and it was their first competition.

I just realized the video was in a higher key…that lets you know that I’ve watched Glee WAAYYY TOO MANY TIMES😂🤭☕️

Start me up was a revelation..they rocked!

They literally explain in the episode that the set list was stolen so they had to create a show last minute, so they choreographed one group number and gave Rachel a solo because they knew she didn't need to rehearse it...

you should totally react to ‘at the ballet’ it really showcases naya, lea and chris’s vocals… and nayas belt is amazing near the end

I wish youd react to some of the videos of her singing live. Theres lots of great ones from the LMDC tour (with darren) and her own tours. This song included. Those videos are more representative of Lea singing naturally than the glee recordings where shes singing as Rachel.

This was the first song I heard on Glee! I remember being blown away and was instantly hooked into the show! #Gleekforlife

They had their song selections stolen by Sue .. and so they had to come up with this one their own Mr Schue wasn’t there so Finn took the lead and they followed up the Funny Girl song with a group number . They gave Rachel the song because they knew she could nail it little rehearsal

I liked Naya’s version better….. the whole package, she was so underrated on this show. Santana’s voice was thicker, fuller, more resonant and just as show stopping as Lea. Lea is good but her Rachel Berry voice seems almost shrill sometimes. Naya was just amazing.

There are typically three songs in a competition like this, one of them is a solo (usually Rachel) or Duet (Usually Rachel and Finn but once was Quinn and Sam). Also, this performances was done on fit fly when Sue gave their set list to the competing groups and they were third so they had like an hour to come up with a totally new set list.

One of her patrons should request "If I Were a Boy" or "Counting Stars/Mr. Roboto" so Audrey can see Alex Newell and Skylar Astin in Glee

Have you ever watched her live performance Tony Award 2010 and her concert in 2018? 🤩🤩 In real life, she still squeaking. But more growling.

0:45 I had no idea what this song was and then after watching Glee, I watched Funny Girl I realized where the song came from.

6:34 i don’t believe the glee club knows the song because throughout the show they let us know the only rachel and kurt are interested in broadway and musical theatre. also this song was a last minute decision

On Glee, the competition were always divided into a solo/duet number and then the group number. I truly don’t know how it’s on a real show choir competition though. PS. Please react to more Lea (and not only on Glee!)

If you watched the show, sue leaked their set list to the competition. So they asked her to save their butts at the last minute with her solo. They didn’t have time to prepare a way to do background and such

I've had the pleasure of listening to her sing this live many times and each time is AMAZING!!! You should listen to DROMP from her Christmas show! That has by far been her best! She sang My Man recently in her last three shows which I know is not in the musical but my god! HER VOCALS!

I'm curious why you think the last note was shorter on the show? I've sung this dozens and dozens of times with instrumental tracks from both the film and from Glee, and they're the same amount of bars lol. I even checked youtube videos of both, and it's the same. I think the video you were watching might have been slightly sped up, maybe that's why it seemed shorter? (It might also be why Rachel's voice sounds slightly higher pitched than usual)

@@CP-mb3sn That would be even weirder, considering the only thing they actually cut out of this version is a small instrumental section right before the end that isn't included on any of the performance tracks and would have been super awkward at the climax of a live performance lol. I'm pretty sure she was talking about the note bc no one ever even mentions that instrumental section (it's just used while Fanny is getting on the tugboat lol) but I could be wrong.

The performance is sped up so the last note sounds shorter, and therefore everything it's also higher in pitch

i think the competition in the show has a category of a solo. they have 3 numbers to perform and 1 of the numbers need to be a solo, if i remember correctly.

just noticed that the videos (she's reacting to) are played here are higher than the original key? either that or everything was recorded in the original key and during editing the final video audio was raised a semitone or two higher?

Her voice sounded great but unfortunately she was off time with a lot of it. She has done it a bunch since then on her tours and always sounds fantastic.

in the episode they didn't prepare this, they set list was stolen and rachel was the only one prepared so they basically winged this.

She recently did a live show and she sang my man , she said she was in the middle of rehearsal for funny girl , can you please react to it to see how her vocals progressed ?

I do agree with you that they should have done a bunch of harmonies and stuff. This was a show choir competition. Having a soloist do too much can lose points. Or they should have sang this in a competition that they lost.

In a later season she plays Fanny in a Funny Girl revival for the show.

Would wholeheartedly recommend looking up Lea Michele & Darren Criss' LMDC Tour. Her & Darren duet a lot of their glee songs & get sing solos as well. Lea does sing Don't Rain on My Parade live on many clips which show her growth in vocals from this ep & the 2010 tony's.

This recording seems to be a few keys higher than what’s actually on the TV show-it sounds so weird here!

People get mad Rachel gets solo but let's be honest the show was created around her shes the main person ofc she'll get the solo

Every glee group had to have one person sing a Solo so that's why it was part of the competition. Mercedes was supposed to sing "and I'm not telling you" but another teams stole their set list.

to be mire specific it wasn't that rachel had a solo ready that everyone mentions it's that each group got 3 songs and 1 of them had to be a soloist so each group had a solo singer

To answer the question of why Rachel is doing a solo and why she’s only on stage and the rest aren’t yet is because in the show choir rules in the show they only have to have 12 members in 1 of the songs they perform registered, as long as they have at-least 12 members registered they can’t be disqualified for having solo acts

⚠️ Spoiler ALERT ⚠️! In this episode, Sue gives New Direction's set list to the other schools participating in Sectionals, so the glee club is forces to come up with a new set list on the fly with Rachel getting the solo because she was the only one who could do one on the fly.

I thought this weekend was the turn for "There are worse things", or Take me to Church, although I don't care about that one.

It's only a half step higher than the original video, but this video sounds SO much higher and squeakier than the actual performance/video, wow.
