Go listen to The Warning's Paulina Villarreal Velez sing *23,* Live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX on 08/29/2022. See if you don't hear bits of Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt in her voice. Pau is a drummer, and she's a bilingual Mexican singer-songwriter-composer. After *23,* listen to *Revenant* from the same show, and then find her solo rendition of RadioHead's *Creep,* filmed in black-and-white on an out-of-tune piano with an iPhone. It's raw, real, and gut-wrenchingly emotional.

She definitely had a natural gift but she also worked very hard at creating the very best sound she could make. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe this incredible talent. I could listen to her voice endlessly. Her live performance of “Down So Low” will leave you speechless. Great choice and lovely reaction! More of Linda please. 🌺✌️

When The Eagels sing this song it feels like we are listening to the titular Desperado lamenting his life and becoming resigned to his choices. When Linda sings it, it feels like we are listening to a woman who is desperately in love with the Desperado and is trying to show him that it's not too late to change. Imagine a strong beautiful woman (which Linda certainly is!) sitting you down and giving you a piece of her mind, including the occasional sob or outburst. Both versions are incredibly powerful, and the slight difference in perspective has an outsized effect on the overall feeling of the song.

I first heard Linda Ronstadt in 1970, she had already recorded "Different Drum" with The Stone Pony's, and just recorded "Long Long Time" (one of my favorites, if that is at all possible). The first thought that ran trough my head was just how good she was, and then thinking "this girl is going to be a huge star" (my one and only prediction that came true). She was only mildly known at the time. As time passed I continued to listen to her music and fell in love with her. I guess like most guy's at the time, if they knew who Linda was, they were in love with her. I know there is some Willie Nelson quote regarding this, but that came later. In November of 1976, I finally got the chance to see her in concert, at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. I remember hearing that she was going to perform there and asked my friends if they would like to go. I got laughed at, as they commented ... "are you kidding Linda Ronstadt, fu*k no"; these guys were all hard rockers. Well my response was for all of them to go fu*k themselves, and I went to the concert alone. By the way, the best concert I've ever been to, no flash pyrotechnics, no rhythmic dancing, no over-the-top drama, just a great band with the best singer I have ever heard, making beautiful music. Just a joy to my ears! Sadly, I have never had a chance to see her a second time, but her voice has been an integral part of my life, and will continue to be. So you see, if I come across a little or alot biased, well, it's because I am! I know that many DON'T share this opinion, there are also many that DO ... but I believe that she is the GREATEST SINGER. I can't say of all time because, all time has not passed, but too me, she is! I will continue to joyfully listen to her music, and hope that she recovers, (perhaps a new cure will emerge). On a sad and happy note, the fact that she's afflicted with such a condition just breaks my heart, but we can all be so grateful that she has left us such large and eclectic catalog of music. We are all winners to benefit from her immense talent! Linda ... you are the GREATEST !

Linda's liberal politics, Mexican roots, and counter-culture friends probably didn't sit well with the Nashville establishment. She was a free spirit, more in tune with the L.A. scene, socially, than with image conscious Nashville in the '70s and '80s. Their loss… But in the end, she didn't need them. She made her mark across many genres.

You have commented on her multiple style of singing but I have one I bet you have never heard. Linda sang "backup" on a friends album. That was Maria Muldaur and the album was "Waitress in the Donut Shop" and the song is "Gringo En Mexico". The album was released in 1974 and several songs got extensive airplay from it. I think you would love the whole album.

The same can be said for her work on the two Trio albums with Parton, and Harris. She refrained from doing the lead on most of the songs. Additionally, she was a great partner in her many duets, never trying to out sing the other vocalist.

I first heard Linda when I was in the 5th grade in Tombstone AZ, her high school choir was touring Arizona schools performing concerts because of Linda. She sang several solos. She was amazing back in her school days and just got better and better. I believe it was Catalina High School from Tucson. I went to 3 of her concerts in later years.

Another tour de force performance. Linda's voice and a piano are all you need for a transcendental experience. Her vocals are just so pure, satisfying and beautiful. I've loved Linda's voice since her days with the Stone Poneys singing Different Drum (which you should listen to if you haven't yet).

Linda is a phenom, for sure. The technique and emotional availability is so rare. Another vocalist you might consider in this category is Jennifer Warnes. In particular, her album, "Famous Blue Raincoat--The Songs of Leonard Cohen" is a spectacular showcase.

Linda didn't need a Microphone. My ex and I in our misspent youth saw her in Berkeley at the Greek Theater about the time of this recording. We were on the knoll behind the seating area with a fantastic view of her and the stage. And even though we were probably 100 to 130 ft from the stage she at time's out sung the instruments and that wasn't because of her microphone. The general acoustics were exceptional. We all love her we all miss her and we are all thankful we had her. ❤

Two things, members of the eagles got there start as the band for Linda ronstadt touring and her third studio album. Desperado was written by don henley, this is the first song he ever wrote, just imagine the first song you ever wrote being such a timeless classic.

Such a beautiful voice and a timeless talent. She transcends genres. Listen to "Poor Wandering One" from Pirates of Penzance for a gorgeous display of her Opera range. The Eagles were at their peak when I was in high school. I always thought was amazing that a Country-Western band made such a big splash in rock music. Their version of this song is even more Country than Linda's.

I heard her sing Phillip Glass and it was great. You could see how difficult it was for her. He was conducting and she kept her eyes glued on him and tapped her foot to stay on time. I don’t know how she kept the actual pitches in her head like that, and then sing with proper breathing, but it sounded great.
