The drummer, Josh Freese, is criminally underrated. He's played for hundreds of musicians, and appears on almost 300 albums. While touring in ~2004, he broke his leg, so instead of cancelling the tour, he flipped his kit and learned to play reversed. And still outplayed most drummers live.. 🤘🤘

Where does one even start with Puscifer? I guess like anything else Maynard does, you cant go wrong anywhere. I personally love their 2016 full show in Germany Rock am Ring. I feel that to hear the harmonization in their live music Grand Canyon is the best example. Monsoons from their live DVD is also amazing. I love The Arsonist (I am the Great Cornholio!), Man Overboard or Remedy to show the other side of the band.

This is a soundboard recording from a different show dubbed over this one! Still brilliant! My favourite live APC vocals are a performance of The Outsider on Jay Leno - Maynard is on fire and it’s a brilliant song too. Appreciate your reactions and insights a lot! For Tool I would highly recommend a live (soundboard) recording of Pushit from their Salival album - powerful song with amazing vocals from Maynard too. There is a video recording from Lewiston ‘98 I believe, but the quality of the sound is not all that good - Maynard hits his best ever high note in it though....

Oh man I actually got to see APC at this actual concert. They really blew up my mind by how tight and clean it was. I'm honestly happy I got to experience then live. Also fun fact, that Sunday had an amazing lineup; having Goals, then Franz Ferdinand, APC, and closing the main stage Deadmau5. Truly unforgettable.

I love everything that Maynard does - I have noticed that he has slightly different approaches to how he sings depending on the band - Tool he has more "edge" to his singing - PC is smoother - more "melodic" - and Puscifer he sounds like he's trying to shear off the words with his teeth

The entire album is a concept album about the journey of an addict going through addiction, withdrawal, recovery, and beyond. This song is about an addict dealing with withdrawal/being unable to fight it, and giving into the cravings. "Till in my own grave to keep me level, jam another dragon down the hole, dig into the rhythm and the echo of a solitary sonnet, one that pushes me along and leaves me so, desperate, ravenous, so weak and powerless over you." Till in my own grave to keep me level = keeping the addiction alive and avoid withdrawal. Jam another dragon down the hole = "chasing the dragon" reference, an age old analogy to describe chasing a high. The second verse: "Someone feed the monkey, while I dig in search of China, white as Dracula, as I approach the bottom." "Someone feed the monkey" = possibly talking about someone needing to look after ones child whilst a parent looks to score again. "While I dig in search of China, white as Dracula as I approach the bottom." Really clever lyrics here, digging in search of China, and then "white" as I Pproach the bottom. China white is obviously a type of heroin. He also emphasises the powerful withdrawals felt by addicts by saying "white as Dracula as I approach the bottom," in other words, dope-sick. The bridge section "Little angel go away, come again some other day, the devil has my ear today, I'll never hear a word you say, promised I would find a little solace and some peace of mind, whatever, just as long as I don't feel so desperate." This signals the giving into the cravings to just make the feeling of withdrawal to stop, and they cannot bare it anymore. "Little angel go away" meaning they don't feel they can live up to their intentions to get clean. "The devil has my ear today, I'll never hear a word you say," the withdrawal is too powerful. This song is beautiful, but please listen to the whole album, it is heart breaking. It does end on a beautiful and positive note though.

"I'm not the lead singer..I sing in a band called TOOL, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. " APC he always has a wig, Puscifer he actually has characters he's created full costume and with TOOL he's in back left slightly behind drums. His autobiography he mentions needing to be really intoxicated, or "something", when he had to perform infront. Billy Howerdell was originally Maynard's roommate and guitar tech for TOOL. HE is the amazing harmony and has a BEAUTIFUL falsetto.

Not everything’s perfect in live performances as you know, but they bring it all together better than a lot of bands these days without backing tracks and the rest of it. little angel go away; come again some other day; devil has my ear today; I'll never hear a word you say; he promised I would find a little solace; and some piece of mind; whatever just as long as I don't feel so powerless my favorite part of this song and probably top 5 of APC songs. His delivery on it is so good. Clean and crisp but haunting in a way. Maynard has also given many 'explanations' of his placement on the stage over the years but the truest one, the one we can really count on given his propensity to fuck with interviewers, is probably 'none of your business' that he told Joe Rogan (iirc).

A Perfect Circle performed 3 Libras on an episode of (I believe) Jay Leno (or Letterman, I don’t recall exactly) that is spectacular. It’s such a beautiful song and you can really hear the pain and anguish in Maynard’s voice during the performance. While Tool is my favorite band, APC is, in a lot of ways more musically pleasing to me. MJK harmonizes so well with Billy Howardel (the lead guitarist).

This song is part of the album The Thirteenth Step or Thirteen Steps which is, for what I have read, an album about drug addiction and rehab. Weak and Powerless is basically someone admitting how they are desperate for the drug and how weak and powerless they are to their addiction. Hence why the "The devil has my ear today, I'll never hear a word you say". This album is serene and powerful, its probably the ONLY album I can't hear without getting too emotional.

Maynard doesn't hover at front-center stage like most singers because he doesn't want to be the sole focus of the audience. He has been quoted as saying that in his opinion every member of the band is equally important so by not standing in front of the stage the crowd is able to focus on the band as a whole.
