Vocal Coach Reaction to FREDDIE MERCURY & MONTSERRAT CABALLĖ “BARCELONA” ...Parents of Dimash?

Ойын-сауық

In this video, I react for the first time to Freddie Mercury (of the band Queen) and Spanish opera singer Monserrat Caballé performing "Barcelona”. In this video, I analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. What an EPIC combination of vocal talent!

You said you would imagine them as Dimash'es parents. That would indeed be quite reasonable - Dimash'es dad is a contemporary singer and his mom is an opera singer (soprano), and although they are not world famous, they are known in their country. You knew that, didn't you?

Peter Freestone (Freddie's assistant) described the visit to the Royal Opera House on February 3rd, 1981, for the performance of Un Ballo in Maschera where he (Freddie) heard Montserrat Caballe for the first time. "It was a pure joy to see the wonderment on Freddie’s face after she had finished singing in the trio during Act I. Freddie just couldn’t believe what he had heard and said then he had just heard the greatest voice in the world."

She was also very funny and not full of herself - during a concert after some heavy rain, moths were all over the stage, attracted by the stage lights. She had to stop singing because she didn't want to swallow some (there were A LOT of 'em) and giggled all the time until the problem had been taken care of. Didn't throw a fit and gave some extra time on top.

Freddie was sooooo much more than a rock singer, he was a brilliant musician, an excellent singer, songwriter, storyteller. Montserrat was brave enough to take the risk to sing with a rock star, because she recognized The Musician in Freddie instantly. If you want to hear Freddie being really operatic. Listen too "Exercises in free love". This is a recording Freddie made for Montserrat (Montsy) of the melody (no words) he'd written for her, put to piano after his death. When he gave this recording to.her, Montserrat pretended she wasn't sure about it and asked if she could take it away to listen too. She actually loved it, got a friend to write lyrics and debuted it at Convent garden concert with an unknowing Freddie in the audience. The final song "Ensueno" is also on the Barcelona album. Yes, they did a whole album of duets and I'm sure you'd love most of them. PS Barcelona isn't about Barcelona, it's about Freddie finally meeting Montsy in Barvelona and getting to sing with her. He adored her, said she was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard and that the World needed to.hear her, but thought she was too famous to.ever sing with him, despite him being the most famous singer on the planet at tje time. Listen to.the opening lines "I had this perfect dream, this dream was me and you. I want all.the World to.hear you. Miracle sensation, my pride and inspiration..."

Of course that was composed (mainly) by Freddie. Freddie told in one interview that he wanted to work with Monserrat, Montserrat saw that interview and got in contact with Freddie. When they finally meet, Monserrat expected all the song were already finish and she just had to record her part of the singing, not knowing that Freddie "writes" his songs in the studio, testing out this and that and that she had to become part of that process.

Freddie had that effect on people. He was so charismatic and had a voice of a god. They have studied his voice and it has characteristics that a human should not be able to do... And you can hear it and feel it in your soul. Freddie and Montserrat made a masterpiece here! Awesome song!

Very much enjoyed and educated by this analysis.Close 2nd to your Focus"Hocus Pocus"reaction where I learned and laughed so much at same time.Keep it up Ms Fairy Voice Mother...btw thought you may have had an operatic background but as you said in this reaction not the case,so even more impressive.

After Freddie died, the orchestral parts, on the Barcelona album, which were originally recorded played on keyboards, (Freddie and Mike Moran??) were re scored for a full symphony orchestra and re-recorded. Jim Beach apparently said affectionately that Freddie didn’t quite have the nerve (Miami may have used the word “balls”) to do it originally. I have two versions of the fully orchestrated Barcelona album.❤️

Love to see you bring us along for an opera class. Being a fan of several reactors who are opera singers, I get the idea of how long and difficult the training is. Still, after seeing you in action I have no doubt you could become proficient in a fraction of the normal time.

I am so thrilled you reacted/analyzed this one! The video from "How can I Go On" that they did together is also emotional, moreso in it's lyrics, and there's a story roaming around (that I can't confirm} that while singing it she took his hand because he became emotional. I mean it kinda tracks while watching, but you never know. You should check it out! maybe not a reaction, but you'll def enjoy it.

Freddie would have arranged the backing vocals for his own songs As the other members did for theirs He probably did the backing vocals He did with Queen on his own amd their songs In a lot of Freddies songs it was only his voice the others dodnt always do backing on his songs On Bo Rap only Freddie on the intro The band said he couldn't read or write music so did the harmonies in blocks in his own wau But they knew what he wanted He would often use the piano as well

Hi, Thank you for a fantastic analysis. It is phenomenal how you can demonstrate the techniques used and you certainly have a very good ear for the detail. Please analyse Queen + Adam Lambert. The track to start with is "Who Wants To Live Forever- Live at The Isle of Wight Festival 2016". I would love to hear an analysis of what he is doing. There is one technique that I can hear and I think it is unique and would love to know if it is and what he is doing. Is it just a super rapid vibrato? There is an opera singer who reacted to this track a day ago without knowing who Adam Lambert is and one thing she said is "Why is this one of the greatest voices I have ever heard and I have not seen him" Bryan May and Rodger Taylor say Adam is "A voice in a billion" They were not looking for a frontman, but when they came across Adam, it clicked and they have been touring with him since.

It's not 'Brian May' on the "light saber ', it's Mike Moran who co-wrote the Barcelona album with Freddie.
