Duaa Choudhary from what Wikipedia says, she was originally signed to Simon Cowell’s record label for being on the X Factor, and he’s notorious for not properly supporting his artists. She’s changed labels a few times, and continues to put out music. She’s got a gorgeous voice, but doesn’t have the big personas like GaGa or Aguilera . She s a genuinely down to earth kinda gal.

The "11 years later" was when Kelly was pregnant, so she made a logical decision to cut out that G5 belt. I'd rather hear that, and know she could STILL pull off her world-ending high notes, than to hear to a singer attempt something cracked and broken.

I think the thing with Miley is her smoking. She smoked a lot of weed, and any type of smoking is going to wreck havoc on your voice. She’s stopped since (per her Jimmy Fallon interview), but still, it causes damage. If you don’t take care of your voice, you can’t expect it to do what it once used to!

Or a singer just chooses to sing differently. Christina Aguilera wants a richer darker tone with a natural raspy singing voice. Yet, when she recorded her vocals for Rocky Martin's new Vegas shows, she sounded exactly like she did in 2001. She just prefers to sound like the ghost of blues and soul.

I really dont think age dictates your vocals as drastically as people make it out to. Obviously, the older you get the lower your voice generally gets and the more frail your body as a whole gets, but for a course of time through your teens to 30s (even 40s and 50s for a lot of people) I think it's a lot of practice, stylistic choice and finesse that really controls your voice more than aging does. That's just my opinion though. I could be wrong, but I don't feel age matters so much as simply taking care of yourself in most cases.

If you have a amazing vocal technique, you can hit your highest notes until the end ! Sohyang still can hit a well balanced, neutral larynx and totally supported B5 at 40 and she has about 20 years of singing behind. Patti Labelle can still support a A5 at 70 years old ! Theses singers in this video are between 20 and 40 and have loose some notes already !

Guylian Pinchard Mariah Carey for example. I don’t think anyone in the video has lost notes. I really do think that when you’re in a prime of your career like most of them are, they’re going to be more careful with high notes and they’ll do it on their older songs.

  • @pryzylla7017

Guylian Pinchard I think you need to remember everyone's voice is different. Just because some singers can still sing their way to their retirement doesn't mean everyone can. What may be less tiring for some singers will be more tiring for others. Lastly, if a singer is tired enough to dodge a high note then let them rest. They know their voice better than anyone else. If they dodge that note then they may have done it for the sake of not overworking it.

No one is declining. They are all still amazing, they just don’t hit the notes anymore because, if they hit them too consistently, it will destroy their voices. I think they save them for their more important performances, or their newer songs, because that’s what audiences are going to be hearing more often. I don’t know. That’s just my opinion.

Honestly, aside from Kelly Clarkson's song, I feel like a lot of the other "note dodges" and "cutting notes short" are simply stylistic choices or changes by the artists, because not only does singing the same thing over and over get rather boring, but as performers experience growth, and change, so can their emotions and feelings towards songs and lyrics that they've written in the past. Different emphasis and stylistic choices can often reflect newly awakened feelings towards a song, or newfound meaning, in played out lyrics. I think there's much deeper meaning to a lot of stylistic changes than listeners give many artists credit for.

For example, Nena, the artist who wrote the iconic song "99 Luftballons" in the 80s, released an alternate version in 2009. Many critics feel that she ruined the song, however, I feel that despite it lacking the upbeat vibe that everyone once came to love, her new stylistic choice is to be respected because she is the creative artist, and in reality, the pace of the original song didn't fit the meaning of the lyrics as well as the newer version did. Just some food for thought.

I agree as well. When singers first perform difficult songs, I think they have a lot of fun rising to the challenge, showing off their talents at hitting these high notes, and eliciting applause and support from fans listening. After performing the same song hundreds of times over for years, however, the excitement wears off. The fans already know that the artist can hit those notes. The songs have become classics, so the fans will enjoy the performance regardless of whether or not the artist is still showing off.

I think the video was accurate at the time but isn’t anymore. Like, Kelly took a break from singing and now hits F#5s like they’re nothing. Demi Lovato now lifted the key one semitone up, and hits G#5 in this song (she simply decided to not do it in the chorus and instead do it in the bridge so the fans can sing the chorus with her). Xtina took a large 6-year break and now is sustaining E5s in Fall In Line. The only ones I think genuinely can’t sing the songs anymore are Miley and Leona, Miley because of drug/alcohol abuse and Leona because...I don’t know, she simply seems to have lost her control ‘-‘

I lack the expertise to really have a strong opinion, but I generally agree. Not so sure about Miley even, i wasn't really a fan until she started on the voice and i got to hear her KILLING it live in coaching. That got my attention. I think a lot of artists dodge notes in live performances in general, because they never could reliably hit them (much as i love Christina Perri... prime example), so it's hard to judge on 1 performance.

Then also there’s preserving their vocal chords for the concert. If they have a long set list left I think it’s understandable to take it a little easier. And before people argue saying that they should save those difficult songs for last, well if it’s an old song like most of these were then they rightfully belong at the beginning of the set and the new music last. It’s how they keep people at concerts till the end

Singing those things is so hard! I don't blame them for not singing it live or even not being able to. It's impressive enough already, so I think finding replacements for it, putting high notes lower, etc. and basically just simplifying it is a good thing. That way they won't strain their voice, which might even be why some of them maybe can't sing like that anymore, because they hurt their voice. They need to take care of themselves

I think a lot of times people that make these videos don’t think about the context of these performances, like how many songs had they sung before they get to these particular examples, or what if the person was just sick that day, how long had they been touring, because I’ve heard singers who are amazing at the beginning of tour but by the end they’re worn out from all the travel and the constant performing. These sorts of videos need to be taken with a grain of salt.

THANK YOU for saying it! I hate channels that just say 'a high note is anything above a ...' because and individual's range is individual. You can have incredible range and not hit 'high notes' by this definition. It is more about the quality and the positioning of notes that changes with age and some singers as they age go for a different sound wherever they are strongest in their range. Some belters don't WANT to use their falsetto range four or five albums after their debut single because they've developed and reinvented with the times. Not every singer can be the unaging, unchanging Kylie Minogue because she has never had more than three years off in thirty years and most women fuck off, change body types four times, knock out kids, survive cancer or complete burn out and come back understandably different! Xxx

I feel that a lot of singers who have popular songs change up the way they sing them. If it were me, I’d do that. I’d be tired of the same version each time. The videos this person chose could be times where singers had to take it a little easy due to their voice and possible complications from singing. Especially Christina!

I literally don’t think like any of these are “note dodges” it’s just that they’re changing it up because singing the same thing live for years gets boring? Lol what a reach

I think you can hear in at least some clips that they knew they couldn't reach the high notes so they just decided to dodge them (which is actually a good decision - it sounds so much better than trying to hit a high note and failing). But yeah, in other clips it just sounds like they are improvising and doing something different.

complete bs, agree with you that they can definitely still hit the notes for the most part but they just choose to either skip over or lessen the length of them for their over all benefit

That was one of Demi's WORST performance of Give You Heart A Break. They literally brought up the worst examples ever. In her recent tour she sang that song better than ever. These video are so misleading. Demi could only hit a G#5 like 4 years ago and now she can hit A5's like they are nothing.

Omg like please. He’s actually super talented. And he’s pretty smart. He loves singing but he’s only a talk show host. So what does he do? Make singing an entertainment piece for his show. Like dang

Something to remember also singers like to be creative with songs they’ve sung 100’s of times. Maybe they’re feeling a certain vibe that night.
