I will NEVER get tired of seeing vocal coach first-time reactions to Mitch and his perfect "what if a natural countertenor went all-in on a beautiful, clear chest and mix pop voice". And this track is an EXCELLENT demonstration of how they know exactly how to set him up in the arrangement to ensure a massive emotional hit, when a piece calls for it. Just.... That perfect harmony build up that dies away to leave nothing but his crystal clear straight tone at *just* the perfect point in the song's story. It gets me every time, even after years of frequently listening to this cover.

Hands down, bar none - the best reaction I've ever seen/heard to one of the most amazing arrangements of this already incredible song. Her passion and considerable singing ability lend so much weight to the observations she's making. Like pretty much everyone who knows this song, I didn't need much convincing of its quality. Pentatonix's treatment elevated it that much further and watching this reaction (and I have several times 🙂 ) just hammers home for me how astounding it is. I loved the reaction after Mitch's entrance and the whole "warm, bass, powerful, *this guy!*" progression sums up a lot of their performances, for me.

You are so spot on Bob. This is a brilliant analysis with the raw glee we see in so many others who react to this piece. Nailed it. I wish I knew what the real name is of The Fairy Voice Mother. She is just lovely. A delight to witness...

So glad you recognized and pointed out Avi's tone. He has a great range, but no matter how high he sings, you can hear that depth and "heaviness". Scott (the baritone who lead the first verse" picks up the bassline in the second verse, and hits the notes bang on, but not with the same richness. Great reaction! You've now been officially "Mitch-slapped" (Mitch is the high tenor who sang the last verse) :)

To really appreciate the PTX cover of Gold, you have to listen to at least a few seconds of the original. The original singer (Kiiara) had to use sampling and looping and autotune, and doesn't even attempt it when singing the song live - her keyboardist plays it on a synthesizer. Mitch does it naturally, and seemingly effortlessly. The intricate "round" singing the Trio does in the last part of the song makes for an interesting new take on the song, as well.

Past experience has taught me to be leery of the "analyses" part so I almost didn't click on this one, but I'm so happy I did. Your analyses was entertaining and upbeat and your honest reaction to the music allowed me to have full body chills right along with you. Your reaction is to reaction videos what Pentatonix is to a cappella. You've gained a subscriber and I'm hoping you'll be going down the Pentatonix rabbit hole so I can go along for the ride.

@@jimcollier4114 Absolutely. This is yet another example of them all singing the exact part that allows them to shine. Avi (bass) left the group amicably at some point and has made a great solo career for himself. That being said, there is a different bass singer for “Sound of Silence “Amazing Grace”, named Matt (still wonderful). & they do all their own arrangements 😊 and they sound just the same live!

I'd like to add a band recommendation to your list - The HU. They are a Mongolian band (throat singing, very primal rhythms, traditional instruments, etc). The first song of theirs that I heard was "Wolf Totem" and it was like nothing I had ever heard or seen (starts off with Mongolians on horseback and on motorcycles and then it gets crazy weird from there). But the HU song I would like to recommend is "Song of Women featuring Lzzy Hale". This song is sung in Mongolian and English and has a bit more western influence than "Wolf Totem". kzread.info/dash/bejne/n5iCk7dyftnbecY.html Best quote in the comments about this band/song - "You know a band is incredible when they can go from chanting about trampling you to death on horseback to a heartfelt tribute to the women in their lives". There is another YT video on their channel about the making of this video if you find "Song of Women" interesting.

There are two other, what I would call, "prime" acapella bands, Home Free and Voice Play. All three of the bands do something different, bring a unique perspective to the songs they chose to cover or create as originals. I have been a Pentaholic, as we Pentatonix fans are known, since the first episode of the singing competition they eventually won called the Sing Off in 2011. I have made an effort to hear every note sung by this group, private performances, public performances in other countries, award shows they've been invited to, Instagrams they've sent out, Tic Tocks they've done, even the times they were screwing around on Periscope for a little while, and I have as of yet to hear anything I would call or consider "bad" out of them. There are things they've done I don't like as much as others, sure, but nothing I would consider as a poor choice for them. So, that being the case, I doubt that you could go wrong with anything in their lexicon of songs as a reaction, or for personal listening. I would suggest, though, since we're on the "heartbreak express" ( Lol ), that you check out Their cover of Imagine from John Lennon next. You spoke about the beauty humanity could create...I don't think there is a more beautiful message that could be sent out than the one expressed in that cover and ,especially, that video. You've currently picked up a like from me, a few more reactions to acapella bands, this one or another, and we'll see if we can get to the sub button, okay? Lovely video.

Fairy Voice Mother thank you! I woke up a bit down today but your infectious exuberance is just so full of life it brightened my day! A rare quality to match your physical beauty as well! I’m old and disabled so I can get away with complimenting a woman’s beauty without insulting anyone! 🤡 So again thank you! What a beautiful reaction to a beautiful song! Working your way through tears was both precious and endearing. With the crazy tragic world roaring around us, God allows a spark of what we can be and what we will be one day and these young people take us to a transcendent moment and a yearning that resides so deep while we live here in this place that can not possibly satiate it. Having watched a few reactions all with the same response just clearly shows that when you strip away the physical we obsess over, we all have the same needs and desires and one day they will be met with perfect love and unity. Precious moments for sure! God Bless you young lady!

Hey... your reaction is absolutely * brilliant. Not just in the way you appreciate what an incredible piece of music this is ( or perhaps, what an incredible piece of "bliss" this is ), and your heartfelt and, dare I say, uncontrollable emotional reaction to it, but also in your perfect breakdown of what everybody is doing, and when, and helping educate those of us who only know music as something to love and have no idea how it's actually made or how to make it. I don't know if you ever went on to do a reaction to their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody but if you haven't, and you do, I would be very interested in one particular part of the music because I have seen dozens of reactions to the song and so far nobody has pointed out something that I find absolutely stunning. And that is when Scott, ( I think ) is singing with both the bass parts and the higher parts ( alternating in mere moments ) near the end of the "opera" section. Either I'm missing something, which as I pointed out above is completely possible because I am a complete idiot when it comes to music... except for my love of it... or every other person who has reacted to it has also missed it. Quite possible given that there's so much going on it's hard to tell what to listen to, I suppose. Anywho... thanks for this video. I've watched ( more than ) a few times now and I'm always moved by your love of the artistry and talent. ~Dan
