I felt this type of depression for most of my childhood. This isn't just adult depression he's portraying. He's portraying the deepest darkest parts of depression; age means nothing. Papa Roach's original version was a song to rock out to when I was growing up. This version of that song I feel is the version that actually shows how I grew up. Angry, scared, crying out for help before it's too late, and for me it almost was.

Theres a video on here of Ronnie playing this version for Jacoby (original writer), & Ronnie was genuinly nervous & pacing around. Was really cool to watch.

A lot of people have pointed out that the ending is a reverse of how Watch the World Burn ended, but I think it’s more than that. I think this video takes place immediately afterwards. People drove him into a rage that burned the world, and now he’s walking through the scorched earth that’s left, upset and depressed over what he’s become. As he pulls out of his depression, he reverses the damage he had done and heals the planet.

I think you are spot on. Watch the world burn was a song about rage and being fed up with being pushed around that one finally snaps and burns the world around them in a metaphorical sense. Wether that be alcohol or drug abuse etc. I think In this song Ronnie was not only showing us an amazing reimagined version of this song, he sung it in a way we all relate to. We all have demons in our past that haunt us and sometimes they get the better of us. Sometimes we ask for help and the sad reality is that help doesn’t always come. I think here Ronnie was trying to say that it’s alright to scream “fuck the world” but only you can realise the mistakes and take the right steps forward to rebuild the world you want and focus on you. You are what matters and only you can truely fix the world. Your world.

Ronnie's vocals here are tremendous, but I'm also happy that his cover allows us to give Jacoby and Papa Roach their flowers for the tremendous lyricism we all glossed over when this first came out.

Jacoby saved our child soul, Ronnie saved our Adult soul. The struggling kid/teenager in me is smiling hearing this

You know how sometimes you come across an artist who no matter the genre or song they do, their voice for some reason just resonates with you? Ronnie is that artist for me. When he goes heavy with the vocals (think heavy rock/metal), I feel like he echoes my inner anger. When he goes soft, it's like he gives voice to the quiet parts of me that are too afraid to speak up. And when he implements vocal cries, it's like he shares some of my pain and desperation. It's very rare to come across an artist who kind of embodies the parts of you that are normally shunned and gives them free reign to be expressed creatively. And I think he became this kind of 'release' for a lot of people. I know that pretty much no matter what song I listen to from Falling in Reverse, it'll evoke an emotional response from me. Don't know shit about him as a person but I don't feel like I need to go google thirty articles about him to be able to feel connected to him through music, and just enjoy the artistry rather than the man behind it. This was a ramble. Anyway, time to continue the video.

As a veteran who has suffered from PTSD, depression and anxiety, I can tell you that I have been there. I used to say, "I'm fine" when I really wasn't. My family kept me alive. My son saved my life and he doesn't even know it. Because, "suicide doesn't end the pain, it just passes it to someone else." I'm always here for anyone who needs someone to talk to.

The way I see it as someone who's in their early 40s is that the original fit the way I felt when I was younger, filled with more rage, while Ronnie's version fits the melancholy and desperation that middle age can bring me now. I love both. Great analysis as always and not only does this song bring tears, but your advocacy of mental health and speaking so kindly to your audience about it did too.

Life can be a shithole sometimes, I'm currently not doing so great either due to family issues, but nothing and noone in this world is worth to sacrifice your own well being. You're the only one in your life that has the power to change this, others like me can tell you whatever they want, you have to be the one to want to change your life to the better. And iI firmly believe every person has the power to make their life the greatest they want it to be. This version just had me crying for so many reasons. The music, his voice, the video ... just pure emotion.

The movie is Inception!! Also I can’t express how happy and excited I am to watch a reactor who picks up on EVERYTHING! This is exactly how I listened to this song the first time- rewinding over and over again to focus on the different textures and layers and techniques and emotion. Also the fact that you’re admiring it from every point of view!! Nobody else reacts like this, it’s typically from a strictly emotional or technical standpoint. Never both, that I’ve seen anyways. “Autotune” these days is generally used colloquially to mean artificial pitch correction, of which there are many different types and methods possible through audio software. Not all pitch correction sounds the same or at all like the cliche autotune sound from the early 00s that I assume you think I’m referring to. To be clear, yes there is clearly a lot of pitch correction and other vocal effects happening on this track, and I think you have to be deluded NOT to hear it. I’d never even heard of this band or Ronnie before hearing this track. I’m sure he’s a fantastic singer. That changes nothing about how grotesque the vocal production is on this to my ear.

It’s so nice to see people appreciate Ronnie’s story and talent. Dude gets so much hate from his past but I’ll be seeing FIR for the 3rd time this year in September and there’s not many bands performing to this level live.

That's GROWTH... Reimagining your own music is Amazing. To feel someone else's song that you grew up with and NOW have a genuine grasp of the message behind the song? It SCREAMS growth and self-awareness. And Empathy. He FEELS what they were trying to express, but totally flipped it to make it hit SOOOO much harder.

The end when he’s screaming I’m fine, reminds me of when you have a breakthrough in therapy. Your screaming and sobbing and feeling like everything is wrong, but the pieces are coming back together. Ugh..his work is so beautiful and deep, and emotive! He’s amazing ❤️ I know he’s been through it and really fights for his mental health daily.

I seen it described as the original was like what a teenager would be going through with heavy thoughts and angry. This version is more of the adult side where life is hitting hard and your just at your end. I feel this description of both songs as i have been through both sides.

I am a metal head at heart, and this was and still is the first Papa Roach song I fell in love with as an angsty teen. THIS version brought me to tears.

I do love the part where the instruments almost have an upbeat hope feeling while Ronnie is almost crying in depression then the song starts to take on a rebuild of hope. Great use of the strings and emotion filled vocals. I Have heard a handful of covers that honor the original yet change the message to a more modern look at society, Disturbed Sound of Silence and Johnny Cash Hurt come to mind. I could put these 3 songs on repeat all day long. Great reaction as always!

My theory on the statues is that they represent the actual music in the mind. Music is the only thing in that world not crumbling, notice how the piano also stays whole throughout the entire video. This rendition is incredible. Almost listen to it every week at least 4 times. Seen 4 or 5 people already react to it, but to be honest I have been waiting for your reaction the most. As I know we'll get way more in depth with your analysis. I had the same feeling, goosebumps all over. He also played this for Jacoby Shadix btw, the original writer/singer of Papa Roach. As a person who has struggled with depression and severe anxiety, it is a fight every day, but music has been a big part of me being a tech for over 20 years, and music is a great prescription, and thank you for your channel and all the work you do, your professional views is fun to watch and learn each time, thank you again.

I love when everything starts crumbling and it stops right when the “I can’t go on living this way” it’s very symbolic of him choosing to either fall apart or take control and make it out of his depression. Dude is a master at his craft and a hell of a video producer

The first time I heard this cover I sobbed. It is such an amazing rendition. His expression of emotion is next level. Such a talented man. Thankyou for the video. It is always a joy to hear your analysis and watch your reaction. The musicians are dressed like that also because they are representations of death.

As talented as Ronnie is, I love how humble he can actually be sometimes. When this came out, there was a video that followed soon after of Ronnie meeting with Jacoby of Papa Roach (creator of the original version of Last Resort) to share his reimagined version. The entire time, you can see how nervous Ronnie is. Even though he made this version his own, he really wanted to honor the original version at the same time.

This version of the song captures that feeling of desperation like nothing else and it's absolutely a visceral physical experience to listen to. Wonderful!

I was waiting for this one. Falling in Reverse does an excellent job on this cover remake of "Last Resort". Ronnie really has his emotion shine through in this one. Look, I'll say it, I'm a British, 39-year-old, metal head, with tattoo's a beard, and a belly, and due to mental health, this cover, absolutely every single time, makes me sob my eyes out. It's so so fitting for me, it almost describes myself how sometimes I'm happy and then all of a sudden I feel like I'm trapped in my head and nothing seems good anymore, like my mind is playing tricks on me, although my life is good and even fantastic a times, it tricks me into thinking I'm alone, I have nobody, I'm better off not here, even though I have a loving wife and son. The lyrics sang this way drags me into my mind where I'm screaming for help and everyone says it's gonna be fine but I'm not okay and I need help but as the lyrics say "I'm running and I'm crying". Thank you Ronnie for giving me some sort of grounding mechanism to let these feelings out as tears instead of holding them in.

The original is the anger behind the lyrics, while this is the sorrow and pleading behind them. Both are incredibly powerful. Makes me think of Sound of Silence with both Simon and Garfunkels original piece, and David Draimans cover.

Every time I watch you do an analysis of a song, I not only gain a better understanding of how someone vocalizes emotion, or the processes of how that are accomplished, or how they are able to intertwine melodies with lyrics; I see and feel and gain wisdom on how to better appreciate music. I have heard the original, but I never felt it until Ronnie Sang it like this. His music gets me through bad times and I love Falling in reverse a lot and I love him as a person as well. It touched my soul down to the core.

Papa roaches version shows how mad we are as teens and Ronnie’s is how depressed we are as adults

The more different voices express these things, the more different people will hear and understand them, and realize that they are not alone. The mastery that Ronnie has over his voice helps him to express the lyrics and music very purely and directly. They go straight in to you like a laser beam. Brilliant rendition. Thank you Elizabeth for bringing this to the forefront! Marillion made a concept album called "Brave" on the topic of suicide and some of the ways someone can come to be in this place. The complete album is a masterpiece. One of the songs from it is "The Great Escape" and it is also very moving and gut-wrenching.

This "reimagining" songs trend is annoying. If you are going to cover a song, cover the song. Don't make it boring and predictable like 95% of these are. Just making good music luke warm at best

But also heard the original non stop on the Radio back in the day and I'd never known what it was about couldn't tell what Jacoby was even saying, this version and stripping it down to make the Lyrics the focus made me love the song had he just done a copy and paste cover probably wouldn't have cared much for it because I still wouldn't know what it was saying.

Made my day. I've been waiting for you to do this for a couple weeks now :P Ronnie gave us a gift and I will cherish it forever. I've watched tons of reactions on this video and everyone comes to the same result. It hits different. So powerful. Brings the lyrics into a new light.

Having seen this live in my adolescents and understanding the anger and rage. Growing up facing each "never happened before" event after event.... losing a friend at 14 to suicide, this song blasted through my life. This version, as late 30s hits my momma of a kiddo with needs heart and almost losing him at 12 to the desperation of suicidal ideation.

no matter how many times i listen to this,i always end up crying.I am one of those that heard it in earlier years and loved it but more for the music,but now actually hearing the words with Ronnies emotion.As said somewhere,hearing it with more maturity now just hits different❤❤

Saw Ronnie with Jacoby in Maine last summer and as someone who had been listening to them since their beginnings, it was just wonderful. Great musicians, amazing performances, and so well connected and bonded to their audiences. Hollywood Undead nailed their set as well.

I find it so amazing how you've gone from your classical, analytical training of the voice to now where you're even dissecting different types of distortion. I've said it in comments on other reactions to this song, and you said it yourself... the original version was the anger and rage, this version is the desperation and despair of depression. I've gotten goosebumps every time I've watched/listened to this song.

I just saw Falling in Reverse a few days ago and I was amazed by how expressive Ronnie is live. He doesn’t just sing notes…he makes you FEEL the emotions with you. And it’s not all depressing…some of it is really, really angry. Some of it is irreverent (well…a lot of it is!), some of it is just plain silly. I was already a fan but seeing him live gave me even more appreciation for how much he brings in his own headspace to each performance. I highly recommend for anyone who has a chance to see them.

no matter how often i listen to this song, or reactions to it, it NEVER fails to get me goosebumps. this never happened to me before, he delivers the feelings for every phrase so much, that it just catches you, even though you may not like this genre.

Papa roach never gave me shivers and tears like this version did.

Elizabeth - I love this rendition of the song. It is so poignant and powerful. Ronnie does amazing things with his voice to convey the emotion that he is feeling. As someone who has suffered long with anxiety and depression, this rendition speaks to me and fills my heart with acceptance, knowing that other people feel the same. I cried the very first time I heard it and your reaction has brought back that flood of emotion from my first listen. A few things that you mentioned in your video: >I believe the movie that you are looking for is called Inception. > I believe that the chamber group is wearing grey because all of the colors in the video are also gray and muted, thus they are following in line with that. I believe that when you suffer from depression and struggle with yourself in this manner, the world loses its color and the dull tones in the video represent that loss. Another vocalist that does well to convey the pain that they feel through their voice is Maria Brink from In This Moment. I would like to suggest the song the fighter. Maria has a long history of abuse from a family member and she has done well to turn that pain into an amazing career. I would love to hear your take on her voice, and as a bonus, the video is a head shot of her singing. Thanks!

One of the most incredible covers/reimagining of a song I have ever heard. Kudos Ronnie, kudos!

This song connected to SO many of us when Papa Roach released it, that's how like an entire generation felt at that moment in time. For some people it was just cool music, and that's fine, but for others it made us feel like somebody finally understood us and how we felt. I'm glad the lyrics are so clear and easy to understand in this version, the words to this song are really deep. Ronnie Radke has been through hell and back, he and his band deserve every bit of success they have achieved. Ronnie has such an amazing vocal range.

As young men we went to war with the Papa Roach version blasting. As my generation is getting older and reflecting on loss & life this hits a completely different way. Mad props to Ronnie for bringing this home.

I only discovered Falling In Reverse a few months ago, they are now one of my favourite bands and Ronnie Radkie is in my top 5 greatest singers all time. Just wow.

I've been struggling with depression ever since I was a child, I'm now 31, and I can't help but cry when I hear this sing because it the closest thing I've heard that expresses what my mind goes through.

I had goosebumps this whole song and fought back tears. I loved the original but this is another level of emotion.

Love Papa Roach and love this cover. I watched the video Jacoby made where he listened to the sample with the lead singer of Falling in Reverse. Awesome stuff. Love how Papa Roach is getting exposure to new fans.

mr. radkes voice and control are so fantastic. he is able to transport all these emotions to the listener. it hits .... hard! and the stripped down instrumentation in the beginning and middle also help thank you also for your helpful words, elizabeth.

This song is such a perfect representation of my life right now. When this song frist came out 23 years ago my mental health was raging at the time. The original was perfect for that time in my life. Now, i'm just so tired, so sad, so defeated. This reimagined version, along with the video, puts it all into perspective. I just this week started a partial hospitalization program for anxiety/depressio and ptsd. So the sadness, the ups and downs in the vocals and the rebuilding at the end is my life right now. Music is such an amazing source of dialogue that sometimes we ourselves can not find. I've always believed that a song, comes into your life at just the right time to express what your feeling and for me this one is it.

As beautiful the singing is, the strings are amazing. If the violin is the heart, then the cello is certainly the soul.

The original song was a banger of course with high energy and dance floor worthy but this... this is on another level. absolutely an amazing cover with emotion, feels and truly brings out the lyrics in the song.

@@moganram6202 Not to take away from the fact that this is a masterpiece, but its still a cover for lack of better terms. look at a lot of the people on the voice and such or agt.... they do a cover of a song but a lot of times the arrangement is totally different and they make the song their own to the point where its better at times. Or even Johny cash's "hurt" totally new song but still a cover essentially

I find that music is one of the only ways I have to process the things I feel in a healthy way. Watching your emotions in your reaction videos is truly beautiful and healing. Thank you for that.

since this song was dropped i have easily watched this a few hundreds of times. every time i still get goosebumps and that spine tingle. i love papa roaches version but as an adult this version from ronnie just hits different. i will listen to this for years to come and i bet that i will still get those goosebumps
