VN24 - Arnsberg / Germany - On 31.08.2020, a serious traffic accident occurred on the A46 freeway near Arnsberg at about 5:40 pm. The 44-year-old driver of an semi-trailer truck with container chassis was driving northbound and lost control of the vehicle shortly before the Uentrop tunnel. He first crashed into the right-hand guardrails, causing the tractor unit and container trailer to tip over to the right and slide across the motorway to the first lane. As the fuel tank ruptured, hundreds of liters of diesel were dispersed across the road. The driver was injured in the accident and was taken to hospital for treatment. To recover the tractor unit and the chassis with a fully loaded 40'HC container, the towing company Wortmann requested an additional 160-ton mobile crane (Liebherr LTM 1160-5.2) and a replacement tractor unit. The container was loaded with about 28 tons of round timber. The salvage and cleaning of the road lasted into the night hours.

    Ich hoffe die LKW Fahrer ist nicht zu schwer verletzt, und dass er bald wieder ganz gesund ist! I hope the truckdriver is not too bad injured, and is recovering soon! Ik hoop dat de chauffeur niet te ernstig gewond is, en dat hij snel weer de oude is!

    Auf der strecke, fahre ich seid jahren jeden Tag von Neheim nach Meschede zur Arbeit. Habe schon viele beinahe unfälle auf der strecke gesehen!!!

    Pity once they had removed the container and were merely left with what we call a "skeletal unit" that hardly weighs a couple of tons or so, they did not move the the front pair of chains onto the 'tractor unit' and lift the whole lot, (I've seen it done), instead of dragging it along the ground like you could hear very clearly.

    Had recovery of the trailer/ truck. Should have taken up slack and Not let it drop onto its wheels, Crane operater retraining schedule asap.

    I guess in Germany they don't have highway wreckers like in the U.S. The ones here have a shorter boom that can lift 120,000 lbs horizontally with 4 separate winch lines on the boom that can pay out cable as the other ones pull in to roll the whole truck in mid air without touching the road all by remote control. No counter weights to worry about and the crane slides forward and back on the truck while rotating too. The outriggers also contact the ground lower to alow people to cross over them during recovery procedures.

    And how many of those highway wreckers die each year because of unexpected movements of the crashed trucks? One broken and horizontally moving cable can cut you into half. No thanks. We don't like these dangerous type of movings.

    @@JuergenHoppe1 I don't think you understand what I was describing. The boom of the crane can hold the load while horizontal but still lift the truck up off the ground. The 4 separate cables pay out at different speeds to control the rolling over of the truck so at no time is it free just to flop over back onto the road. The operator stands well clear while doing this using a wireless remote console at his waist. Its not that you can't use a standard construction crane to right a truck like that but there are advantages to using the wreckers they make here because there is more control of it. Plus what happens if the truck is under an over pass or bridge or power lines. These have such a low profile that they can operate in those conditions.

    @Charley Fig I never said we are better then you I just was wondering why they would use a crane like that? I repair and install hydraulic equipment and am a firm believer in Hiab and Bosch Rexroth that they are far superior in design and durability versus American made hydraulics.

    A rotator cannot lift this weight and is not high enough to get the container off the chassis. There is a reason they used this size of crane.

    @@Starlight_66 Mit technisches Verständnis, beruficher Erfahrung und zwei gesunden Augen. Es wird ja nur geborgen und die Unfallstelle geräumt. Sicherlich wird noch eine technsiche Prüfung in der Werkstatt erfolgen, bevor der für den regulären Betrieb wieder freigegeben wird.

    Even “The Beast” couldn’t be called upon to deal with this one. A 160 ton crane seems a bit OTT, that must have been a very heavy container. A very interesting video.

    Yeah, was most disappointed to see them flop the container upright, instead of letting it settle gently upright. That caused whatever freight was inside to slam against the other wall of the can, damaging it as well, and probably didn't do the freight any more favors. The tractor itself, meh, but still could have up-righted it gently, too, instead of letting it slam down.

    Mit 2 ROTATORS hätte man den 40 Tonner auch wieder auf die Beine gestellt. Da ist die Bergung dann deutlich günstiger als wenn ein 160 Tonnen ? Kran geordert werden muss.

    When are you transport operators are going to learn over there you need two sets of axles behind the cad. the truck over there have got up with one set of axles behind the cab. Danger in the wet weather even though single wheels on the trailer or not as good as dual wheels on a trailer.one tipped over in New Zealand just a few days ago.

    Yeah tow companies and such are not required to wear helmets so its only a "if you want" for them. I personally whould wear a helmet there because a crane hook can hurt a lot if you know what i mean.

    Il recupero mi è sembrato non professionale come le altre volte. Sia il trattore che il container sono risultati più danneggiati nella manovra. In particolare il container poteva essere raddrizzato con più delicatezza .. Sarebbe bastato ancorare le catene nell’altro lato per una discesa controllata .. La motrice mi è sembrata ancorata non proprio al meglio .. Comunque rapidi e ben attrezzati ! 👍

    @@ahwootton5 their use is also limited at some point; Try to reach sth high up, then such a mobile crane is more useful than a rotator; Also the size and capacity of rotator is limited pretty quickly while mobile cranes can appear in all sizes ...

    Relevage pas très délicat , faire trainer le tracteur sur la chaussée histoire de l ' endommager un peut plus au lieu de le soulever pareil pour le conteneur charger a bloc le laisser tomber sans retenue il subit une grosse déformation du au relevage au risque de l' éventrée complètement .. un peut bâcler.....Spécialistes ???? 🤔🤔👺👺☹☹😲.

    Für Sie alle vier, Der Fahrer hat sich nichts vorzuwerfen, dieser Teil der Autobahn ist stark abfallend, durch die Geschwindigkeit und vor allem durch das Gewicht begann der Anhänger zu schief zu laufen und brachte das Gespann ins Schleudern.

    @@EnjoyFirefighting da ich ja auch das Ehrenamt Pflege Feuerwehr weiß ich was du meinst. Dort ist es ja scheiss egal da geht Menschen Rettung vor Sachwerte. Aber hier in denn Fall hätte man vielleicht andere Möglichkeiten gehabt die das Fahrzeug nicht weiter Beschädigen. Denn ab und zu werden solche Fahrzeuge wieder aufgebaut.

    @Phil De Vonk Ich glaube, du hast mich nicht verstanden. Osteuropäer laufen in Jogginghosen rum, und weil zu viele hier rumfahren, bauen die hier auch viele Unfälle.

    @@doni7368 Die Ursache, warum es heute in der Transport so beschissen abläuft, sind Leute wie Du! Die nichts, rein gar nichts über den Beruf des LKW wissen. Statt sich einmal den echten Problemen anzugehen, regt man sich über eine Jogginhose auf. Jogginghosen, sind nicht nur bequemer, sondern auch gesünder und sicherer als alles andere.
